Introduction: Greetings from Music Tutor LA! We are a a Los Angeles based music teacher collective of Berklee College of Music Alumni professionals currently working in the industry. We offer private music instruction in many different programs of study for aspiring musicians and music college preparatory counseling to those musicians hoping to attend a music college or pursue a degree in music after high school. Our teachers are highly proficient in teaching many music subjects such as Piano, Voice, Music Theory, Composition, Songwriting, Music Production/Recording, and Ear Training. We provide a Custom program as well which gives a student the opportunity to learn a combination of some or all of the subjects offered. At Music Tutor LA, we hold our teachers to the highest standard. Because of the great respect for music that we have and the belief that music teachers have a great responsibility, we set a very high bar for the teachers that we employ. They must not only be extremely talented in their craft and passionate about what they do, but they must also be accomplished musicians, currently working in the industry with a proven track record. We believe that above all learning and playing music should be fun. And we put great care into tailoring unique lesson plans for each student to ensure that this philosophy is never compromised. Jason is an excellent teacher! He is always encouraging, and the lessons are fun and relaxed. He is extremely knowledgeable about all facets of composition, and through his help, my music has become fresher and much more interesting. I am excited about the new possibilities for my songwriting!

Jason is an amazing teacher. He knows what a student wants and figures out where exactly a student is at. I have had only two sessions yet, but I can sense that he is a proper teacher if you want to be an individual musician because I bet he knows most of the basic to intermediate level of music theories. Also he is capable of teaching DAWs. And the most important ability for tutors that I think of is that they should be able to teach students constantly in the students' timetable. What I mean by that is all the students have different abilities on learning materials, and I believe that Jason is well capable of setting that timetable for their students. I really recommend to take Jason's lessons to the people who are just like me, willing to learn some music composition with your instrument and with DAWs back and forth.

I'm so glad I was able to find such a capable and understanding teacher here on thumbtack! For the past few two months, I have learned many things about music theory and composition that I could tie in to my previous knowledge. He is helping me out with my portfolio so I could apply to music schools for composition and honestly I don't think there is a better person to ask. Even with such a tight deadline, he's is helping me achieve my goals. He is patient and flexible and willing to make things work out for the best.

Jason is a kind person, enthusiastic and encouraging teacher. My daughter has renewed interest in playing the piano in large part, I believe, due to his approach. Jason is able to keep her interest during the lessons and clearly cares about her musical interests, incorporating them into all that they do together. I highly recommend Jason as a music teacher, he's fantastic.

I hired Jason to help me with music theory. I'm headed for Berkelee College of music in the fall with the hope of being able to test out of some of the classes I will be required to take as a freshman. I've been studying for years, and have worked with a lot of different people, but Jason really exceeded all of my expectations. This guy really knows his stuff! Not only is he fun and inspiring to work with, he made sure I understood what we were doing every step of the way. When I needed more time, he gave it to me. When I couldn't drive to him, he came to me. And he always made sure that he was available to me. Thanks to Jason, I'm pretty confident that I will be able to test out of some classes in September without having to spend the additional time and money sitting through an entire semester of stuff Jason was able to impart to me in just a few lessons.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our lessons typically cost between $65 and $75 per hour depending upon the subject and if and how far our teachers have to travel to the student (if the student prefers that our teachers travel to them). We offer discounted rates for students when paying in advance. 10% off - (8 sessions in advance) 15% off - (12 sessions in advance)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When first starting to work with a new student, our teachers start by getting an idea of their previous music education and background, learning more specifically about what they want to learn and their musical goals and objectives for the near and distant future, and taking note of the kinds of music that they enjoy the most. Using that information, they are then able to create lesson plans that are specifically tailored to the needs of that student. Every student is unique, and our job as their teachers is to adjust our teaching styles accordingly to ensure that they get the best training and instruction we can offer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our teachers are all graduates of the world renowned music school Berklee College of Music with Bachelor's or Master's degrees in Composition, Songwriting, Vocal Performance, Piano Performance, Film Scoring, and Music Production and Engineering to name a few. Each of our teachers have many years of experience teaching many different aspects of music and are all currently working as professionals in their respective fields.
