Introduction: First of all I am a trained vocal technician with both an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy and a Master's in voice emphasizing pedagogy. Many wonderful singers decide to teach voice but cannot do so effectively because they only know how to teach what worked for them. Why is this bad? Because every voice is completely different- even among similar voice-types, and because we cannot actually see the instrument. Thorough knowledge of vocal science, voice types, and appropriate repertoire for all voices, ages and styles is hard to find in a voice teacher. Second of all, I am a pianist, which allows me to coach my students musically and provide necessary accompaniment. Third of all I am an actress and have extensive training and professional experience in theater and film. I understand the language and process of performing, all singers must be actors to a certain extent- I do not separate the voice from this process, but rather am able to help my students engage the two. Lastly I am involved in the New York music and theater scene, I am very aware of what is 'current'.. many teachers fail to keep up to date. I love watching my students grow. Voice is a funny thing- when you undergo the process of lining up someone's voice (instead of trying to make them sound like something through manipulation) you never know what is going to happen! It is an amazing discovery process, and I have found that when you find someone's authentic voice it is always beautiful.
