SO! If anyone needs a really good house cleaner, no matter the size of the job, I recommend Jeff's House Cleaning Service. He is a great young man. I needed someone to clean up the cesspool that was left behind in our guest room by out last house guest and he came and did the most amazing job. He wiped the walls down with vinegar water, he bleached the room head to toe, he left the entire bathroom shining brighter than I have ever seen it. I was so impressed. A++++

They worked like a great team to get all the discarded items up from the basement, onto their truck & take it away. If we had to put just a bag or two per week in the trash we would never gotten rid of it. We are still cleaning out other areas & plan to have them come back when we have more things ready to go.

Yes I had Handy Andys clean, pick-up and haul away items in my upper flat. Really happy with them. Nice people. Great $. I will certainly call him for a part 2 when I get more items moved into this apartment. He clearly is an alternative to other cleaning services - especially for this type of deep, heavy cleaning as the space was vacant for a long time. Tnx.

Words can't really describe how happy (ecstatic? giddy?amazed? thrilled?) I am with the cleaning service Rodney recently provided at my home. He cleaned every single nook and cranny, and it has N-E-V-E-R been cleaner. My appliances sparkle, my bathrooms glisten, and my floors are like mirrors. The carpets now look brand new. Rodney takes pride in his work, and it shows. I recommend him without hesitation for any cleaning job anyone might have. He is polite, professional, and super efficient. I am so glad to have met him. He will be at the top of my list for any cleaning I may ever need in the future. Thank you, Thumbtack!

Craig was extremely professional throughout the entire process. Despite a miscommunication with regard to timing, he was still able to promptly come out and perform the job. He thoroughly cleaned up the job site and there was minimal impact outside of the work area. Would highly recommend him and will use him again when jobs fall outside of my skills

Cheryl cleaned my house right before the holiday and at the last minute. She cleaned the kitchen, bathroom and dining room, including the floors. Everything was done well and it was wonderful to come home to a spotless fresh smelling house. Cheryl is friendly, a great communicator and arrived at the right time. I hope to have Cheryl clean regularly!

Structural repairs in basement in advance of selling our house. Dan responded promptly to our reaching out on Thumbtack. Estimate was very fair. Quality of work was excellent. They were very professional but answered our questions and provided great service. They did a good clean up at the job site. We plan to use their services again.

Deb is the only one I trust in my house alone (who has a key). I've had other cleaning services And they don't come close to how thorough She is because she cleans everything including the baseboards and places others never thought of. I love coming home to a fresh and clean home and knowing she cares about my home and kids as if they were her own.

Samantha and Tamia (sorry if incorrect spelling) did an excellent job cleaning my son's condo. I was comfortable leaving while they cleaned. I requsted a 'basic cleaning' and they did extra touches like hanging shower curtains, making the bed, and organizing a messy spare bedroom. The place was spotless. They did a thorough professional job and I would not hesitate to hire them for your cleaning needs. I never hired a service for cleaning before so can't comment much on cost. However, in my research before hiring them I feel their price was very reasonable.

I hired Dusties to clean out a house - take care of remaining items to recycle, donate or toss - and then dust, vacuum, wash windows and floors. They were delightful to deal with from the very first phone call! Desiree arrived with Christopher (junk and recycle and donation removal) and a few others and got right to work. The house sparkled when they finished. It was just the way I wanted the house to look for the new owners. Their time was interrupted by the arrival of the new owners who wanted to begin dropping off boxes before the agreed upon time. Desiree and her crew worked right along and accommodated the new owners even though it was more difficult to complete the work. We had one mix-up - some items were left in the basement by mistake. I called Desiree and Christopher as soon as I noticed. (I had not done a complete walk-through - partly because the work that I saw was so well done, and partly because I was trying to get out of the house for the new owners.) They promised to return - and did - even though it was Christopher's birthday and he was being taken out to dinner. And even though the truck was being used elsewhere. I had to wait for them to return, because they came after the dinner, but they came with smiles and a generous spirit. Wonderful people! Wonderful work!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

  • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
  • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
  • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
  • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
  • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
  • Ductwork properly protected.
  • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.
