Ive always been into lifting and exercising through my life. I'd work really hard with not a lot of guidance, which I figured I didn't need. I mean how hard can lifting, and exercising be on your own? I only pushed myself so hard, and found myself settling with current results which were not anything worth showing off. Until, I decided to take a few sessions through Next Level Boxing and Fitness with Dave. The guy is super cool and forces you past your expected physical limits. I was skeptical at first but he's opened my eyes and gave me A LOT of confidence in myself. I am super satisfied with what i am instructed to do. It never gets boring either, whether it's an interval workout, boxing workout, or just a light workout to get the blood flowing. I've never felt as good as I feel now. I wish this review gave this personal trainer the credit he deserves.

Kevin is truly a ' best in world' trainer. I can't say enough about Kevin but please read this and hopefully you'll have a better idea of how he has changed my life on a very personal level. I have severe health issues and take lots of medicine. My doctors told me i need to work out with someone who can handle the complexities of my case to build bone density and I was lucky enough to find Kevin. He is like a personal trainer, chiro, physical therapist and friend all wrapped up on one. He is so committed to helping me have the best quality of life and so well versed on many things I trust him implicitly and consider him part of the core team working to make me better. I've had the oppty to work with trainers in many states who were all supposedly the best and can say that Kevin is in a league of his own. He is so creative and comes up with a different ways to challenge me, make it fun, change it up, incorporate things to help build core and posture overall and bring things into the mix like boxing that he knows I really like. I truly look forward to our sessions and always feel better afterwards, it's been great to see the progress and my doctors are thrilled that I was so lucky to find him- he has blown away any expectations. Whether you have health challenges or are training for the army or wanna look good for your wedding or the summer bathing suit season Kevin will not only help you achieve your goals but will quickly become part of your way of life. I can't say enough about Kevin and his dedication, expertise, continual desire to learn more ways to help and just being a cool guy and easy to laugh with-if you are lucky enough like me to work with Kevin you should jump at the oppty! Seriously, he is worlds best trainer.

Johnny is a very effective physical therapist who helped me resume all functions after hip replacement therapy, and is now helping to keep me in shape, and keep my heart (I have a heart attack hisory) and lungs (I am an ex-smoker) working efficiently. He demonstrates exercises i should do at home, recording them and e-mailing them to me so I can follow them easily. He does not make the routines so lenghty that I will make excuses for not doing them. Johnny works with me to make conveient schedules for appointments, and is always ready for me at the scheduled time.

Val - Gym on the go!

My evaluation of Val as a trainer is that she is OUTSTANDING. I have been with her for 10 years, and here is the reason why. Over 10 years ago, I found myself in the situation of having to become a caregiver (specifically for my Mom). For those who have never been a caregiver, I can tell you that it can take a lot out of you mentally and physically (depending on the situation). I have never been in the best of physical condition, but I had really neglected myself. I attained a weight of about perhaps 220 pounds, very poor cardiovascular status, high blood pressure, a type of pale to greyish skin complexion (not to mention a very scraggy beard). Indeed, if you saw me, you would want to put me out of my misery...this is NO exaggeration. My doctor, upon examination, gave me THE warning...either begin physical exercise, watch what I eat, or be placed in ICU. I joined NYSC, and was referred to Val. She did a physical evaluation on me, determined what type of training I needed, AND she asked me what did I wish to accomplish (which was to lose weight, tone down, improve cardiovascular condition, or, in other words....TO BE COMPLETELY RECYCLED). Indeed, with the precision, planning, and necessary (in my case) toughness of a drill sergeant, 10 years on, I have improved greatly. Indeed, I have more endurance, more flexibility, more muscular development which I could never achieve alone. I simply do not look my age. And I just plain feel better. The training that Val puts me through is quite thorough. There is always advice on nutrition (she has a degree in this), and an extensive knowledge of anatomy with which helps with some muscular problems that I endure from time to time. All in all, I firmly believe that having Val as my trainer saved my life, and I am hoping for another 10 years with her as my trainer. For those of you who read my testimony, I strongly urge you to sign up with an introductory training session with her. Val will listen to your concerns, and ask you what you want to accomplish in a training program. I am confident that you will not be disappointed. Salvatore Mauro December 13, 2016

Last spring, I had severe tendonitis in my right Achilles. Michael did a phenomenal job by first diagnosing the problem and pinpointing its root cause. He was extremely thorough in his physical therapy work doing some work on the area that I have never seen done before and made a huge difference. I was able to get back to running much quicker than I originally thought and was pain free in the area the rest of the season.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are the different types of physical therapy?

Physical therapists work with people who have been injured or people who are ill to improve their movement and help them manage their pain. The U.S. Department of Labor explains that physical therapists “are often an important part of rehabilitation, treatment, and prevention of patients with chronic conditions, illnesses, or injuries.” Physical therapists can also choose to specialize in one of nine areas. According to the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, these areas of specialization are:

        • Cardiovascular and Pulmonary
        • Clinical Electrophysiology
        • Geriatrics
        • Neurology
        • Oncology
        • Orthopaedics
        • Pediatrics
        • Sports and
        • Women's Health

The national average cost for a physical therapist is $60 to $80, although it will cost more if the patient is paying for services out of pocket rather than through insurance. If you have insurance and want to work with a physical therapist for a specialty area, such as oncology or geriatrics, you may need a referral from your general practitioner. Patients who are paying directly for services can often contact the physical therapist directly.

What exactly does a physical therapist do?

A physical therapist is a health care provider who assists patients with mobility improvement and pain management. Often patients are referred to a physical therapist by a primary care doctor or specialist for help recovering from a surgery or traumatic injury, such as a car crash. Physical therapists help patients manage pain that results from chronic disease and other illness. Physical therapy can help enhance mobility when patients are faced with neurological disorders, such as after a stroke, and provide relief from arthritis or other mobility and pain issues.

A physical therapist uses medical exercise equipment and exercises to empower patients to regain flexibility and mobility where possible. They may use treadmills, steps, medicine balls, resistance bands, isometric exercises, weights and more to improve muscle control and movement. A physical therapist uses physical movement to help heal the patient, but also can sometimes prescribe medication as appropriate. A physical therapist can also become board certified in one of nine specialty areas.

        Why is physical therapy important?

Physical therapy can help you recover range of motion and ease pain after injury, accident or illness. Many people are prescribed physical therapy by their primary care doctor or specialist after a car accident, surgery or sports-related injury. You don’t need a doctor’s referral to start physical therapy, but unless you are paying out of pocket for the services, your insurance provider might require a referral. Physical therapy is also a medical solution for pain associated with chronic illness such as osteoarthritis and can be used for recovery after a stroke or other neurological disorders.

Physical therapy teaches you how to move your body in a safe and healing way to regain strength and movement. During a physical therapy session, the PT will teach you to use medical exercise equipment and approved exercises to regain your lost flexibility and improve your mobility where possible. You may use treadmills, steps, medicine balls, resistance bands, isometric exercises, weights and more. From young children to seniors, patients of any age can benefit from the science-based movements and exercises that encourage flexibility, rebuild muscle, and ease stiff joints.

How much does a physical therapy session cost?

The national average cost for a physical therapy session is $60 to $80, although the cost may be higher if the patient pays out of pocket for the services instead of being covered by insurance. Physical therapy sessions may last from 30 to 120 minutes, depending on the therapist and your medical needs. When paying out of pocket, session rates may range from an average of $75-$300 or more, depending on the location, length of session, and specialization of the therapist. Standard out-of-pocket rates average $150 per session. According to the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, physical therapists may become board certified in one of nine specialties: Cardiovascular and Pulmonary, Clinical Electrophysiology, Geriatrics, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Sports, and Women's Health. To receive this board specialist certification, the physical therapist must complete a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical work in their specialty area and pass an exam. A physical therapist who is board certified in a specialty may charge higher rates to account for their advanced training and expertise.
