Maria took some amazing photos at our wedding dinner. She was there early and stayed longer than we expected. It was a tight space but Maria still managed to get great photos of our family and friends. She also has reasonable rates. I highly recommend her for your next event! I will certainly be calling her next time I need a quality photographer. Thank you, Maria!

Alex was attentive, on time, and very dedicated. I told him, from the very beginning , that we are typically not ones for pictures, but that we were making a big exception for our wedding. Even with two not very photogenic subjects, he showed us what a great eye for photography can do. He stuck with us for four hours and made us look amazing! I would definitely recommend Alex to other friends in the future. Thank you, Alex, for a job well done!

Working with Ray was a wonderful experience. My clients were very pleased with his professionalism, as was I. He worked quickly and efficiently, but he also showed he had a great eye and that he wanted to make sure the resulting project looked right. He provided the final product to me so quickly I was amazed. I highly recommend Ray to anyone who needs any videography work done.

Luc did on set photography, behind the scenes videography and the official poster photography of my film. He captured incredibly beautiful moments. Luc definitely has a visually striking identity in his work as photographer. He has high sensibility when it comes to capturing facial expressions. Each and every frame had a unique composition. I highly recommend working with Luc for his distinctive artistic sensibilities and remarkable professional attitude.

Chris was an absolute joy to work with. He made me feel so comfortable in front of the camera; I wasn't self conscious at all. He is very friendly and keeps conversation flowing, capturing your natural self, so your head shots and portraits don't look fake or staged, but like the best version of you. I use the photos he took as my professional acting headshots, and I continually receive compliments on how well shot they are and how well they capture my personality. I would recommend him to everyone I know–for professional headshots as well as family, wedding, or any kind of shoots!

Nate and his colleague did our wedding videography in May 2018. Nate was so enthusiastic throughout the whole process. Communication leading up to the wedding was always pleasant and smooth. He was a pleasure to work with that day and our videos ended up so beautiful! He was easygoing about making some preferential edits to our longer video (feature). The only issue we had was his delivery was a little longer then expected but we also didn't push for it sooner, this was not a problem for us so I still gave him 5 stars. He also kept up communication while we waited and was transparent about delays. Overall, I would definitely recommend Nathaniel David Wedding Videography!

We are so grateful to have found Mark. His wedding video artistry gave us the best ugly cry when we watched our highlight video! He could not have been easier or more lovely to work with. He blended into the backdrop, popped out at the right time to queue us and self managed throughout the day. We love our video. Book Mark for your special day- you will not be sorry. Thanks Mark, appreciate all you did, Dana & Sean

I am blown away by Craig Rappaport. He is a true artist, a hopeful romantic, and a mensch. His heart is huge, and he went way above and beyond for our wedding. First of all, after hearing my story about being a stage 4 cancer thriver (in massive debt from medical bills not covered by insurance), and marrying a man I had been friends with and secretly in love with for 20 years, he offered us an amazing deal on videography for our wedding. We had no budget, and the wedding was made possible by donations from family and friends, so we weren’t sure we’d be able to hire a videographer. Craig’s attitude was delightful, and he even drove from Long Island to Brooklyn to meet with me and my fiance’. We were instantly crazy about him as a person. We spoke to him in detail about what was going to happen at our wedding ceremony and reception, and what moments we wanted to capture. He contacted the still photographer we had hired and happily participated in a video conference call with him, to make sure they were on the same page. He contacted the DJ for the wedding to discuss the audio set-up. And I told him there would be some celebrities there and a photographer from the New York Times, so he knew he had to take that into account too. Everything was going great, and I felt confident about choosing him to film our magical event. Then, the worst thing happened. A few days before the wedding, he broke his collar bone and contacted me from the hospital. I felt terrible that he was in pain, and I was devastated that I no longer had a videographer for my wedding. There was no way I could get a replacement with such short notice, at the discount he offered. Well, within 24 hours, Craig managed to find 2 shooters to replace him, and he explained to them in detail what shots and angles we wanted. Then after the wedding, he edited together a phenomenal highlight reel, using only his left hand, since his right arm was in a sling. It took him far longer to accomplish, since he’s right-handed, but he didn’t want to wait until he had completely recovered from his injury. Every detail of the reel, from the graphics to the music to the effects, was crafted with enormous love and technical expertise. He truly managed to capture the uniqueness of our wedding, as a masterful storyteller. I would recommend Craig to anyone who wants their special event to be captured by someone with endless enthusiasm who makes it his mission to turn the footage into a work of art. We are overflowing with gratitude for you, Craig. You’re part of our family now!

We are so happy we decided to work with Shuttersound for our wedding after finding them through Thumbtack. Mia was awesome to work with, she had a fun attitude and the pictures she delivered exceeded our expectations. It was freezing the day of our wedding so we didn't have a ton of time to take pictures outside but what she was able to capture in a short period was beautiful! Beyond being a good sport on the day she is very talented and perfectly captured a very happy dayfor us :)

I asked Thumbtack for videography for a wedding and Crisitian was the first to reply with the cheapest offer. He also included a lot of service for the price he asked. We were sceptical at first because we never hired videographer before and know nothing about it but Cristian reassured us that everything will be perfect and we had nothing to worry about. He was very easy to communicate with, very responsive and polite. He contacted me few days prior the event to talk out last minute details. On the day, he arrived even earlier what made me feel less nervous on my big day. It was so easy to work with him, he made me understand that he is true proffesional in the work he does. I was wondering what I had to do for the video but Cristian explaied to me crealrly and showed examples which also made it easier for us. Cristian also had no problem staying longer for the event. I love his work, style and the fact that he usues most recent and best quality equipment necessery for best photogrpahy and videography. The best part is that we do not have to wait long to recieve pictures and video! As we are all so excited to see them, Cristian had couple of them ready the next day! I had a lot of complements and good comments about the photos Cristian made! I will absolutely hire his again and again for my future events and will recommend him to anyone who is looking for great quality, friendly open environemt in communication and inexpensive ! Thank you so so much! You trully made our day easier, I did not have to worry about anything and because of your work we have such great captured moments for the rest of our lives ! Thank you again! Best, Anna and David October 2016.

I highly recommend David Troth Wright Videography. He was the videographer for my July 2016 wedding in Rehoboth Beach, MD. David traveled from New York for the wedding. His prices/fees were incredibly affordable in comparison with other videographers with his skill. We shared our highlight video reel with our family and friends, they all raved about his work and loved it! David brought one assistant along to help us capture all of the moments from different angles. He was friendly and accommodating from start to finish. His communication skills and responsive time is amazing, especially compared to other vendors that my husband and I worked with! When I needed to move up the time for my ceremony at the last minute, he was able to be flexible. The quality of his videos make you think that you're watching a theatrical trailer, the shots are so clean! I researched over 15 videographers and we loved David the best! If you're looking for a videographer, don't think twice, choose David!

We hired Salah for my wife's 30th birthday - he was fantastic. He was easy to work with and very friendly with all our guests. He was kind enough to join us the entire day of photography that took place in Paramus, NJ and all over Manhattan, NY. Salah is very easy going and provides quality work. He provided all the picture at the end of our event, which was awesome. Salah also provided a small video clip of our event - I would certainly recommend him for both photography and videography. Thanks Salah for capturing our event :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
