Introduction: I am a professional violinist with classical training and audio engineer offering recording services from my private studio in Jackson Heights, NY and offering Skype violin lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.
-Recording-
From my home studio, I can record vocals or single instruments. For drums and larger instruments, I collaborate with Frightbox Recording, using their studio in Passaic NJ.
-String Arranging/Composing-
Have me add custom string parts to your next song, whether it’s a lyrical acoustic violin melody, a ripping electric violin solo, or a lush string section. No synths, only real instruments. See my website benkaras.com for audio samples.
-Violin Lessons-
My teaching style is detail oriented and I place emphasis on teaching my students proper technique as a foundation to achieve their musical goals. My beginner students will start with a classical foundation to grasp the basics but with a more modern approach of integrating music theory and harmony which will allow the student more freedom to play alternate styles of music. Lessons with me via Skype are best suited for teenagers and adults, beginner through advanced.

Several years ago, I decided to learn to play violin, a lifelong dream. I was lucky to find Ben as a teacher from a flyer posted in my town.
Since I’m an adult, with a high-pressure job, Ben has been great about varying lessons to help me do what I can (more some months than others!) and keep me engaged and progressing—but still ensuring I have a good foundation.
Although I originally took lessons in person, a year ago I moved away and started taking lessons over Skype. I’ve been very happy with the quality of the Skype lessons and I feel that I’ve continued to progress. My only regret is that we can no longer work through duets because of lag!
Ben’s a great teacher and person, and I highly recommend working with him.

I took lessons with Mr. Karas for two years after retiring from my job as a physician’s assistant, when I decided I wanted to become serious about the violin again and really enjoyed my experience. My musicality significantly improved as a result of his personable and encouraging teaching approach. I highly recommend him to a student of any level.
