We were looking for a videographer that wouldn't be so "intrusive" during our special day. Basically we were asking for the impossible. We wanted our wedding ceremony and reception to be videographed in a great way without the usual spotlights and several cameramen. When we looked deeper into the list of videographers, it turned out that it could be possible to have a great video of your wedding without having tons of lighting and cameras. Lance Wheeler ladies and gentlemen! Not only was Lance fun to talk to on the phone and a pleasure to work with, his videos were exactly what we wanted! His pricing is also very reasonable. Lance will certainly do a great job taping your special day. We highly recommend Lance for "non-intrusive" videography. We didn't even feel him being present!

This review is way overdue, but wanted to express how happy we were with Chris as our wedding videographer! He provided excellent service, value and a beautiful video. He was flexible, worked really well with our photographers, accommodated any requests even my husbands "blooper" reel. We loved working with him from start to finish and highly recomend him for any wedding or special occasion.

He made a promotional video for my work. It was a college project for him at the time but he led his crew in a very professional manner and the video is fantastic! I use the video often and I appreciate his hard work.

Have yet to see the finished videos, but we could not be happier with the service provided by Zach and Andrew for our daughter's wedding. They arrived on time and stayed the whole night. They are both wonderful and personable. Anything we asked, they did. We loved working with them and are really eager to see the memories that they were able to capture of our day. We received 5 Thumbtack bids and are absolutely confident we chose the right videographers to memorialize the day!

This is a review of J. Isolini Photography and Video. I had requested professional services of a photographer through to capture my wedding proposal at local park in Rockland County, NY in August 2014. After submitting my request on and after discussions with multiple photographers, I decided to go with Jason because he was the only photographer who took the time and effort to respond in detail to my questions and requests. He went above and beyond to help me figure out the best scenario as I was still trying to figure out locations, dates, and other things to make my proposal memorable. Jay provided ideas and had suggested areas through my correspondences with him. More than a photographer, he was a wedding proposal planner :-) Jay was very professional, courtesy and quick from the beginning and that helped me select him over 4 other photographers that I was talking too. Perhaps it was the details in his responses that made me select him over others. It was as if Jay had cared about my wedding proposal as if it was his very own  In addition to photos, I had inquired if he could provide video of the moment. Jay had suggested that his friend could help him capture the moment for me as he was more of professional with video than Jay was. I had no idea what he was about to produce for me would be this AMAZING. He totally blew me (and viewers of the video) away with what he produced. He kept saying that the video would be amazing and helped a nervous guy (especially the day of) calm down. He had a time lapse video included, an interview voice-over and the use of a Steady cam and Go-Pro camera all in his video. Jay went from a photographer to a videographer to a producer all for me! One of the things I remember about what Jay produced for me was his suggestion of scouting the location(s) prior to capturing it on photo and video. This is something most professionals tend not to do, due to their busy schedules. I appreciate the time he took to help me figure out the locations and best spot for the proposal to happen. The amount of time he spent in figuring out the location and editing the final product made me realize I made the right choice in going with Jay. I was still debating a few locations leading up the date of the shoot and Jay was able to meet up at the location and check out what we can do and choose the best spot for background, noise filtering, and lighting. He even hiked a small trail with his camera gear to scout another possible location! Jay was dedicated to me, his first time client and the best location for the shoot! Another thing I had inquired to Jay about was the need to show the photos taken on the day of the proposal at a local restaurant with family and friends. There was a projector and screen to show my family and friends who couldn’t make it to the proposal. Jay was able to quickly edit 10 photos on his laptop in his car after the shoot and place them on a USB drive for me. It was great to show the moment and the shots to my friends who weren’t there. Jay was confident in his shots and was able to provide the stills at a short notice. Jay’s turn-around time was remarkable, especially the video he edited and produced. I had told him that I preferred the video a week after to show our family and friends and he delivered it in TWO (2) DAYS fully edited. Most people would take a lot longer especially edited video. I appreciate Jay’s hard work, dedication and commitment in my request. After the shoot, I had asked Jay to see if he could crop one of the photos and even delete a person out of the shot. He went the extra mile in doing that for me. Overall, I am highly pleased with Jay’s services and expertise and highly recommend him. He is an up and coming photographer in the area and loves the challenges that each product brings. For my request, He had to switch from photo to video in an instant and got some great shots for me. If you’re looking for someone who is up for the challenge and can provide some insight into a small plan you have, I would suggest going with Jason Isolini. A highly satisfied customer, Justin C.

I was in need of a photographer for some engagement photos, and I was in an urgent time crunch. Rich replied to my request quickly and professionally. He met us locally at a park and was very easy to work with. (We had never gotten pictures done before as a couple, so this can be a little awkward at first.) He made us feel relaxed and comfortable while capturing some great candid and still shots. He got our photos back to us very quickly, with great edits and in high resolution. He even asked for our feedback on the photos we liked best. Definitely would recommend Rich to any couple looking to get photos done around the Metro NY area. Great experience overall!

I hired Luis to do a video tribute for a special event for my parents. I told him that I was looking for a film/cinema feel to the video. He knew exactly what I was talking about. He even sent me a recent project example that he had recently completely. Due to my time constraint and budget I needed more than just a videographer. I didn't know anything about the film/video industry but he was able to communicate what needed to get done without going above my head. He provided clear instructions for me to complete in order to make the project a success. Luis and his team also worked out an appropriate budget that would work for them and my family. I would highly recommend Luis. He is more than a videographer. He is an EXPERT at what he does! He is willing to collaborate with you in order to achieve your dream vision. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to cancel my project before Luis was able to began the project due to personal circumstances with my family. It was a personal issue with me not Luis. Thanks Luis for your cooperation!

I have worked with Mr. Gaylin on all of my projects related to my endeavors with Asperger's syndrome and trying to rid the world of bullying. He has always shown promptness and integrity while trying to be flexible with his prices. Unlike most videographers, he allowed me to participate in the editing process by allowing me to come into his office to work alongside him. The skydiving video we created together has reached so many views on YouTube that the site has begun advertising on my work. My last video involved being hooked up to a blood machine while giving a speech and his videography skills put me at ease as Mr. Gaylin was commissioned by the New York Blood Center (NYBC). He even made some last minute suggestions that improved the video during the precious moments I had left to donate the pint of blood. I am optimistic that we will work together on many other projects in the future and help each other in our respective careers.

Carlos Marques did an excellent job as the videographer for my wedding. I have to say i was dissapointed with the photographer that i used to shoot the day (not phatlip productions) but when i saw carlos' work i was brought to tears. He not only captured such perfect, intimate moments but he did it in a manner that you didnt even know he was there. I would recommend his services to anyone and would give excellent reviews for quality, professionalism, and attention to detail. Job well done! Thank you!

From start to finish Greg was beyond a pleasure to work with! We decided at the last minute that we wanted to see if we could find a videographer to capture key moments at our wedding, on a limited budget. Greg's price was very reasonable and we had a fun wonderfully edited DVD at the end (he even tossed in extras for our parents). Being that he was a one-man-show (many wedding's I've been to have 2 or 3 shooters) it made his coverage even more exceptional. He did exactly what we wanted, documentary style, as if he were a guest at our wedding. Very professional & a wonderful person all around, definitely recommend!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
