I wish more companies would be as professional, polite and detailed oriented as Simply Moving. Dreading a long distance move from NYC to SoFL and the packing up went seamlessly today. Met with Emi for an onsite and felt SM would be right choice. Chanel and Patrick arrived on time and were a pleasure to work with. Very pleased so far and hoping the remainder of the move ends as smoothly as it began.

They showed up on time, packed furniture and delicates into the truck quickly and effectively, and used professional packing materials for moving the appropriate equipment. Move actually took a little bit less time than I expected and I was pleased with the experience overall.

I was truly amazed by how professional this team. We decided to move on the hottest day of the year (not by choice) and they did not complain but did what they had to do the get the job done. They were very efficient in packing and unpacking their truck. Not one wall at either apartment was damaged. I would hire them again and would recommend them to anyone.

I selected this company based on yelp reviews and now i can give them 100 stars. We all know moving is tiring and exhausting but if you find a good moving company you can forget about all these things. Like i found Great Movers and i made my life easy. They did all of my work from packing, loading, unloading and then unpacking too. All of these tasks got flawlessly done. What else would anyone need? Thank you so much guys!

They packed and moved for us, and that's a tough job... my family and I have a crowded apartment so there was even more stuff than any of us would have thought. CCS was professional and mostly excellent. My only complaint is that the packing was basically incomplete. They packed about 90% of our stuff during the packing day, and then the next day came back to move without any packing supplies. I ended up finding boxes and finishing it myself, but it was a bit frustrating. On the plus side, their crew worked hard for two days, and the price was reasonable and there were no surprises, like wild charges for materials. Overall, would certainly recommend them for moving, and recommend for packing if you can be around to oversee and help.

I normally don't write reviews but I am inclined to write one due to exceptional service provided by Darius & Co. I am amazed at how easily and professionally the move was done, thanks to Darius. This Guy is a Superman and did most of the shift by himself. Darius arrived 45 mins earlier than scheduled time and patiently waited to start. The whole move was done in around 4 hours including 90 mins of travel time - all in all it was breeze of a move. Darius is always smiling and love his job which absorbs all the stress related with moving, which is not an easy proposition. I highly recommend his services - If you are looking for a move and are lucky that Darius provide service in your area - Look No Further!!

We certainly appreciated that the Platinum agents dropped everything else on their schedule to immediately deal with our emergency. They arrived within ten minutes of promised arrival time, and immediately went to work, transporting the furniture boxes to the assembly location. The two gentlemen were very professional in working collectively to install and assemble my furniture. They put together a sofa, love seat, armchair and table in less than two hours; thoroughly cleaned and removed all of the boxes and packing materials, without having to be asked; and, worked quietly, being considerate of the fact that the hour was late. The completed work was excellent and the cost for their labor reasonable. When I need additional handy-work to be done on the property, this organization will be the first one that I will try to contact and hire. Thank you, Platinum for your courteous and superior service! Finding Jeff and Raul was the best Christmas surprise/miracle I could have hoped for! These guys were SO careful--probably even more careful than me--moving my stuff: packing it and being careful not to scratch my hardwood floors. They took their time to do things right but didn't waste any time, either. They are clean, efficient, appropriately friendly and I will definitely use them again when I need help moving anything. They had moving blankets, helped me pack a few things. I really can't imagine better movers. They were great with working with my schedule and didn't give me a bad time when I only needed them to move a few things (which turned out to be a lot more things than I thought I had!). Their rate was excellent.

Used Ample for my move from NJ -> NYC and they were fantastic. They showed up at 8:15am and got right to work. Before I knew it, all of the boxes were moved, and they were beginning to tape up the rest of my furniture. They used great care in moving everything, and consulted me when they thought something needed extra attention and packaging. Once we arrived at the new apartment, the unloading process was just a quick and efficient as the packing process. Overall, it took less time than I expected. All of the guys were friendly, professional and hard working. Would absolutely recommend them!

Great to work with. They did a great job packing the truck. They estimated one load and that is what it was. If they had not packed the truck so well, i would have had to pay for a second load. Price was good and the owner is very responsive. A 10 x 15 storage unit took them two hours.

Voyo and his team were great. The were no hidden fee's at all. Packing supplies and boxes are available for purchase if you need. but not obligated to use their stuff. They were no fees for gas or transit. If your upfront with your needs the quoted rate stands, nothing was different than what we discussed and the contract. Priced very reasonable and the best price of any quote. Tipping is encouraged and you are reminded about that several times. I did not have a problem with this practice. The guys deserved it. It was a Flat fee move. I guess depending on what you move is depends on your rate, in which that depends on the hours of manpower. My move was a 5 hour window. . I moved from a storage garage to a Storage Facility. 90% of my items were already packed in Storage bins, I had 3 rolling clothing racks, and one piece of furniture. I had 3 Industrial Shelving units that needed to be dismantled and put back together at the new location. The guys were comfortable doing this. Voyo was easy to communicate with and available for any questions. The guys and the van arrived during the window promised. Everything was loaded efficiently and thoughtfully. My only issue, and I mean only issue, was getting from A to B. I was eager to give directions to the next location, and was told not to worry because of GPS. I just think it was a rush decision to depend on technology. GPS did not route them properly, so 1:20 minutes was lost in transit. The guys did call me 2x to let me know, so that was good. When they did arrive, very apologetic and they would still honor my 5 hour window even if they went over. Luckily, we did not go over. The entire process took 4:41 minutes. My overall experience was not effected. Voyo, also called to express his apology. I would use them again and again. I highly recommend A Piece of Cake as a moving company.

I can't brag enough about the services that were provided by the Moved team: from the professionalism of the staff, the patience with my questions, the help with organizing, the competence and expertise of the movers themselves, and the efforts to ensure that the end result was a success. It was simple, affordable and took the stress out of my move. I would never think to move on my own again.KUDOS to MOVED.

The movers from Clutter are some of the nicest guys around (especially Justin and Jeffrey). As a ny'er I've moved a lot and have used many services for packing/ moving/ delivery - with my fair share of awful to scary experiences (hello craigslist). These guys are friendly, on time and so helpful. They are also a great rate - comparable to other professional moving services and probably less in many cases. As well as, moving they have a storage system that is ideal for the NY lifestyle with pick up and drop off delivery of your items when you need them. So no need to now rent a car to go get your stuff or find a babysitter just so you can go to your storage - it comes to your front door!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
