Very professional, trust-worthy and friendly! Most importantly, this is a very flexible team that will make sure the job gets done to your satisfaction even if unexpected situations occur. The quotes are more reasonable than what I received from others. I've used Household Service for both a moving and an interior painting project, and both were completed to an excellent standard. I highly recommended them!

Great experience. Jamel and his partner Steven did a fantastic job mounting our new 65" tv. Price was great. Service was great. They also assembled my garage shelf storage that was sitting unfinished for months. That task alone took over 2 hours but he only charged peanuts. They also fixed my garage light that was hanging on one screw (for free). They also do flooring, painting and other house work. Very glad I found Jamel. I'm putting together a honey do list and will be calling back soon!

Ackthba did a wonderful job repainting our apartment. From the intital conversation to questions I had about paint coverage, time, etc. Ackthba was incredibly accommodating and beyond pleasant through the whole process. I can be weird about leaving people in my apartment to fix things, etc but felt beyond comfortable with Ackthba painting our apartment whilst we were at work. Look no further than him for a job well done at a truly great value! We will definitely be using him again!

Kurt wallpapered two rooms and did absolutely exquisite, perfect work. One of the rooms had a tricky vintage paper and it looks flawless. I cannot recommend his work highly enough! If you have any wallpapering or painting needs, HIRE HIM!

I was nervous to try someone that I didn't know to paint our 2nd floor apartment while we weren't home. I felt extremely confident with John as soon as I met him. He was very fair and worked with us on the price. He was very responsive with follow up and he painted the rooms when he said he would. I would highly recommend Sparacino Painting and look forward to using his services again.

Worked with Sonny on two medium to large painting projects. You need to hire this person. Always punctual, professional and knowledgeable even regarding my 100+ year old ceiling plaster. Very reasonable on price. If you want the job done on time and without drama, this is your painter.

Ruperto, in one day, painted the ceiling, walls, and trim for my 12'x18' living room AND master bath. He worked a very long day, helped me with moving the furniture and pictures, was professional and pleasant, and did a gorgeous job. He even managed to cover some water stains in my ceiling resisted multiple coats of supposedly stain-resistant primer. Ruperto was the first contractor to reply to my inquiry, texted his answers and was able to work on the bid with me so we were both satisfied with the price and amount of work. He was punctual and took maybe a 15 minute break in a 10+ hour day. Recommend him highly.

We contacted Global Housing with a painting project of our 2 floor home. In addition to the walls and ceilings, the painting project included various types of stubborn wood trim\moldings and doors that were previously stained. Additionally, making the project a bit more challenging was that we were already moved into the home with our furnishings and had new wood flooring previously installed. James was very responsive from the initial contact and throughout the project. Anytime there was a concern raised by us he quickly responded and handled the concern with ease. The painters themselves were extremely polite and professional. They were careful with covering the flooring and furnishings and really went above and beyond with the quality of the work and even in recommendations. Upon the completion of the project, James reassured us and encouraged us to not hesitate to contact him should we see something that we were not happy with or if something was inadvertently overlooked. We would wholeheartedly recommend Global Housing Contractors and would work with them again without hesitation. Mr. & Mrs. Rios Roselle, NJ

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
