How does your service stand out?
Aside from my personal love for food and nutrition and desire to help people, I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Not only can I help you follow a healthier lifestyle, but I am qualified to administer medical nutrition therapy to anyone suffering from a chronic illness. While I don't currently accept health insurance, I can provide my clients with a "superbill" to submit for reimbursement, if their policies allow.
I also have an extensive background in planning and project management--and am a member of the International Association of Professional Life Coaches--which means I know how to successfully help you meet your health and wellness goals in a realistic and achievable way.
I acknowledge and appreciate that everybody is different. I believe in listening to my clients, experimenting through trial and error, and establishing a mutually beneficial relationship.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?
Since I was about eleven years old, I've been obsessed with learning about food, cooking, and nutrition. I had always considered myself a nutritionist and chef and am happy to say that I now have a formal credential to go with my skills. But, I love to keep learning, so I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in nutrition.
I completed the DishWithDina 12-month Individual Healthful Lifestyle Coaching program, during which I strove to build a healthy relationship with food and my body. I needed the results to be manageable long-term and take into account specific health-related factors. Overall, her approach to coaching me through understanding and making some tough changes was FUN instead of intimidating.
Dinas services far exceeded my expectations! Her passion for and dedication to nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices is unmatched. Dina worked with me as a personal nutritionist for 1 year. I had an extremely positive experience with her. She taught me how to have a healthy relationship with food that was customized to my lifestyle. She is warm, funny, very professional and tremendously knowledgable in her field. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If requested as a nutritionist, I have a New Client Questionnaire I ask clients to complete and I am qualified to assist in certain medical or other conditions (diabetes, renal, eating disorders). The questionnaire also gives me an idea of how to help clients set realistic, achievable goals. I also offer a free initial phone or in-person consultation to get to learn more about prospective clients. Even if you accept my quote, you don't have to commit to my services until after we've had an initial discussion.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I grew up in northern NJ planting and growing food in my parents' backyard garden and started cooking when I was about 11 years old. I've been involved in food, cooking, and nutrition in one way or another for over 30 years. I owned and operated an event planning and catering business for 9 years. I am now formally pursuing an MS in Nutrition and completed a year-long dietetic internship to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Know the difference between a nutritionist and a Registered Dietitian. Unfortunately, in New York City/State, nutrition counseling can be done by anyone, qualified or unqualified. The only restriction is that they cannot call themselves a Registered or Certified Dietitian and should not administer advice for the treatment and/or prevention of disease and chronic conditions.
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is someone who is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and has completed an undergraduate and/or graduate program in the science of nutrition (e.g., Anatomy & Physiology, Biochemistry, and the studies of diseases and food-drug interactions) along with a one-year clinical internship program.
RDNs must also pass a national exam and maintain their title status through continuing education and/or specialization in the field (like a Certified Diabetes Educator or Lactation Consultant). RDNs provide nutrition counseling and education based on current scientific-based evidence.
