About
Hi! Hello - I live in NYC and teach intermediate students to professionals. Beginner students should seek elsewhere. I can only teach in-person lessons in New York City on the Upper West Side for $150. Online lessons via zoom are available. My rates are $125 for online lessons of one hour. $100 for online lessons of 45 mins. And $80 for online lessons of 30 mins. In-person lessons are a bit more for travel time. I prefer My lessons are fit for your own personal tastes, interests, and goals. I take extra time so each lesson is understood and I leave you with enough to work on. Our session will be relaxed and not have a rushed feel. Each lesson will be about an hour but I do not end the lesson until I feel the students have really taken in the teachings. With 35+ years as a professional musician, I can share knowledge of the real deal outside of playing your instrument. I like teaching all ages, and find it most rewarding to teach students who can listen. I enjoy helping adults who want to learn. Open to all ages but require that the student is passionate about playing and learning. I have experience in jazz, metal, rock, classical, funk, blues, country, and world music. Has played guitar, bass, or keys for Rickie Lee Jones, Vernon Reid, Sean Lennon, Denis Leary, Michael Leonhart Orchestra, Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Cibo Matto, Mahavishnu Project, Banned From Utopia, Project/Object, Tom Morello, Street Sweeper Social Club, The Nightwatchman, The Grandmothers of Invention, A New World (Final Fantasy Chamber Orchestra concerts), Slash. Performed on television (David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, Craig Ferguson as well as television shows overseas). Teacher to actors learning instruments for roles. Was mentioned in a speech the 2024 Tony Awards by a student who won award. (Not Fade Away - Paramount Vantage films, Jersey Boys, Stereophonic on Broadway, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll -FX Network). Former transcriber for Guitar World Magazine and other music publications and also accepts private commissions for transcription work.

Robbie is a great teacher, I've only had a couple of lessons but we've already we've covered alot. It's obvious hes a fantastic player nailing riffs I'd been working on for ages in no time and then walking me through them. Robbie is great at explaining clearly what you need to work on to improve and tangible steps to get there. I've really enjoy working with him! We do our lessons on zoom and he sends the recordings so I can go back and review what I learned.

Robbie is really helping me to get past a guitar plateau. I found myself playing variations on the same concepts after years of playing, and lessons were the antidote to break out of that rut. He has a deep understanding of the instrument (theory and otherwise) and teaches through concepts and exercises that make you want to play. Working with Robbie has absolutely made me a better player.

You'll quickly understand that you're lucky to be learning with Robbie. He comes to where the student is and digs it, and intuits where and how to affect the student's musical progress. How to get the kid playing. Or how to articulate the ins and outs of a complicated Zappa song. I've learned an enormous amount from Robbie and I'm really grateful for it. Couldn't give a higher recommendation.

Robbie "Seahag" Mangano, not only is a Consummate Professional, he is an educated, diverse and seasoned musician, who has played with the likes of Frank Zappa's former bands, to the offspring of The Beatles, to original members of The Grateful Dead, and everything in between. That in itself shows you the wide spread his talent casts on the music world. His lessons start on time, and his full attention is devoted to the student, with no interruptions. Anyone luck enough to have Robbie as a music teacher, should consider themselves lucky, because they are getting the best and the most out of their money; I know I do. Encore Robbie ENCORE!

I have played guitar for years, but wanted to learn more and explore new ways of improvising and upper structure chords. Robbie is so knowledgeable in so many genres and styles and instruments, he was able to show me everything I wanted to learn. He is kind, patient and encouraging and so much fun to play music with! What a great teacher!
