Deep Test Prep

Greetings! I believe that the journey of test prep mastery allows students an incredible opportunity to become their best selves - laying the foundations for success in the years ahead. During this process, I help students become more efficient learners by practicing smarter-not-harder study habits and teaching them executive function skills such as time management, focus, and clarifying priorities. This leads to higher grades, more free time for their interests, merit scholarships, and the energy to explore who they are becoming. I have a lot of fun with my students, but I also hold them accountable to the standard of what I know they can become. If they perform below this, I remind them of their greatness and don't let them settle for less than they can be. With over 6 years of coaching experience, 500+ hours of nonviolent communication training, and 10 years of teaching experience, I use scientifically proven methodologies to enhance the learning experience. I use empathy to help students accept their own skill level and learning history as a jump off point to going where they want to go. This supports a baseline self-confidence that allows them to believe they can improve and grow. I create meaningful connections between what students already know and what they don't know to facilitate gradually increasing mastery of the material. When all of these factors are present, students experience the safety to enjoy their learning journey and the pride that comes from creating great results. I also offer all students & parents a free 15-minute consultation before our session so we can make the most of our time when we are together. I have found that students often underestimate how much work they need to do in order to reliably improve their SAT/ACT scores. I therefore set clear expectations from the start and require all students with goals of improving their score by more than 150 points to take 2 full-length practice tests worth of practice a month, correct them, and have questions prepared for our sessions. My Philosophy & Expectations: I believe we should never lower a goal. It's not just a number on a test, it's about who you become in the process of achieving that grade. Achieving excellence in anything is worth doing, but achieving excellence in something you learn to love is even better. I will hold you accountable to how excellent you can really become. If I see you slacking off I will remind you of how smart and powerful you are until you rise to that level.
