About Belcanto Opera Centre

I can help you build and beautify your singing voice for operatic repertoire. I teach the nearly lost of art of bel canto to give your voice beauty, volume, carrying power and wide range. I teach the use of "l'accento," the correct cadence and pronunciation of sung Italian.

A native of Rome, Italy, I have over 30 years of experience in New York City. I have high references available. I offer reasonable prices. I cater to beginners, emerging professionals, and established professionals.

Marcello Garofalo is unheralded, yet authentic, genius of the virtually lost art of Italian operatic declamation, an individual who justifiably should be associated with the world's leading opera houses. I have prepared all my roles with him since at least 2001, and can say, without prejudice, that he has transformed my performances into those of an instinctual Italian operatic tenor. I cannot recommend him too highly ... He is the real deal.

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I learned from my father, who was the vocal coach of the greatest singers of the 1920's and 1930's: Gigli, De Angelis, Franci, Ruffo. I am perhaps the last teacher of "l'accento", operatic technique using the proper declamation of the Italian language.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I can teach singers to phrase like the greatest opera singers of the past. Beautiful singing does not change according to the year. Proper technique remains the same.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Does proper and clear pronunciation and cadence help the singing voice or make it more difficult? It helps immeasurably!
