I own rental property and had a laundry list of items that needed to be completed. I called Helio and he showed up on time. We talked over what needed to be done and he gave me a time frame of when he would complete it. He completed the tasks (tree cutting, gutter cleaning, roof maintenance, fixing windows, and installed screen door) no problem and gave some recommendations on other things that needed to be taken care. I have since been using him for new work that needs to be completed. He is very flexible to meet schedules and honest.

We had Nick do some repair work to our bathroom, he was professional, and timely. He got all the work done quickly, explained everything he was doing to us and once he was done he cleaned everything up. I will definitely hire him again for any plumbing repair I might have in the future.

Sean did a great job and was very professional. He's the first plumber I've hired who actually cleaned up what was cleared from the drain. Would hire again!

Jordan responded promptly to my request for tankless water heater maintenance. He was easy to coordinate with and got the job done quickly. I plan to hire him back this summer for a descaling treatment. I also appreciate the electronic payment option he gave me since it's a rental property and I wasn't available to meet him onsite to pay.

As a single woman, Mr Fixit affirms with every task he is truly a handyman hero. Whether it's a vacuum cleaner that is not working correctly, a piece of siding on the house that the wind removed, blowing out gutters, fixing a tub drain that only drained very slowly and now no water collects during a shower at all... he's proven to be very reliable and timely. Highly recommend. Thanks Mr. Fixit! ... again, and again :D

George installed drains and water piping for our basement kitchen and laundry areas. He had to re-route all of the electrical and plumbing to a tankless hot water which he also installed. He completed the project according to the building code for the town. He did everything in a timely manner and within our budget. He was very good about telling us why he was doing things the way he was doing them and advising us so we don’t have any problems in the future. He also built a bathroom, installed a shower, and new toilet in the basement. I think he could do almost any kind of remodeling project and I think he would do a great job. I highly recommend him!

After having no luck getting a 'spa' repair person to come and check why my hot tub was leaking, I tried Thumbtack. Ron and I talked back and forth about the issue, and he found that the actual problem wasn't a leak at all, but an overflow hose that had come undone, draining the tub repeatedly. Two trips to make the determination, but his charge was more than fair. I will use him again for other projects!

Steve has done multiple home improvements & renovations for us. He efficiently and cost effectively installed a new energy saving furnace & hot water heater which both had energy rebates. Steve suggested options for ceramic tile flooring he installed for us along with ideas and details that gave the project a clean, updated look. Steve is a polite and accomodating professional with experience in many areas of renovation. We would highly recommend him

We hired Steve to install 2 lights next to a mirror in our bathroom and remove the old light above the mirror. He came to look at the job the same day and did the work two days later. He was very professional and knowledgeable. His price was very reasonable. He did an excellent job and we would definitely recommend him to our friends and family.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

      • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
      • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
      • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
