I hired Justin to help me with my laminate floor installation. He has been great to work with. He took time out of his own schedule to meet with me for the estimate and then actually went shopping with me for the laminate. He's helped come up with some creative solutions for trim and transitions.

We had Matt and his team build us a fence in our backyard. Matt was great in helping us decide what type of fence and decisions about the gates. Thoughout the fence building project Matt and his team were professional and pleasant. They kept us up to date about the delays due to snow and weather. In the end, the fence and gates look terrific and better than we had imagined. The car gate was so large it was difficult to open, but Matt and his team followed up and fixed the problem by adding extra wheels on the gate. Overall, very glad we went with Grounds Guys and would recommend him for any projects.

Very prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and professional. They even came out to install my gas line for our stove which is being delivered today. The stove was a spur of the moment purchase. We needed a gas line. Kevin and his partner were able to install the line on the same day he gave us the estimate!!!! They even traveled last night to install it with the roads being as terrible as they were. They were slightly late with the roads being as bad as they were- which is completely understandable and out of their control. Kevin still made a point to over apologize- which was not necessary at all. Their lives and safety are the 1st priority. That alone told me their view on customer service and the extent to which they would go to take care of their customers. Hard to find these days. This was my 1st time dealing with their business and I guarantee it will not be the last!

After interviewing several bathroom remodelers, I decided to do it myself and Mike agreed to help me on an hourly basis. I knew it was a big job and we spent the better part of January tearing out, constructing, installing and finishing our master bathroom. We removed the whirlpool and single stall shower, the tile floor and subfloor, vanity top, old doors. Built new walls, insulated the walls, redid the plumbing, installed a full walk-in Onyx shower, new shelving area, new doors, new vanity top, new tile floor with radiant floor heating. Mike was reliable, hard working - never quit day after day, Showed up on time and finished on time. He was very flexible and as can be expected, we ran into a few unexpected things and had to problem solve to move forward. High quality handyman is a bit understated. He is a quality professional with broad experience.

We hired Larry to remodel of kitchen - complete rip-out of old cabinets and installation of new ones. His workmanship and attention to detail and accuracy is tremendous - so the kitchen look gorgeous! One small issue that you need to be aware - sometimes Larry's time gets pre-empted by other (unrelated) issues, so make sure that you are flexible with your deadlines.

We needed the job down quickly and he was out here the very next day to give us a quote and start the job! I would highly recommend him for any landscaping needs!

We bought a house that was a little dated and were looking to update the kitchen and bathrooms. We contacted Jimmy at CONNECTIONS of a HANDYMAN to give us some ideas and an estimate. He came highly recommended from good friends of ours that have used him in the past. Jimmy gave us many different options and choices on material for us to choose from. He is very knowledgeable with the trades. Jimmy did a full redesign of our master bathroom moving plumbing, elecrical, etc... and totally re configuring the entire layout. After Jimmy gave us an estimate we felt like he was extremely fair with pricing and also felt like he was trustworthy as well. After signing the contract he gave us a start and completion date which he stuck to to a tee. He showed up on time as expected each and every day with his crew which were all very nice and very respectable to my whole family cluding my two young daughters. We couldn't be happier with the outcome. We are so happy with the final product and the professionalism that all the guys at CONNECTIONS of a HANDYMAN provided that we are planning on calling Jimmy in the near future to remodel the kitchen and other bathrooms in our home. We are looking forward to working with Jimmy and his crew again and for many years to come. I highly recommend CONNECTIONS of a HANDYMAN to anyone looking to have any work done. We were very impressed how neat and clean they crew was during the project. At the end of every day Jimmy made sure that everything was cleaned up and they even put a plastic wall up to avoid dust from going into the rest of our house which was great. AAAAAA+++++++ all the way. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I hired Jaylor Construction to install a fence around the perimeter of my back yard (approx. 500ft). Immediately I was impressed with their professionalism and expertise. Winter was fast approaching and they had trouble getting the materials. They ended up having to hand build the entire fence with individual pickets. They did not sacrifice their trouble by cutting corners or craftsmanship. They worked extra hard and kept to the timeline and estimate that was promised. The fence turned out great and I've received several complements from neighbors, friends, and family. I highly recommend these gentleman for your future construction needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
