Hi, Rapid Response Handyman did repair the leaks in our existing gutter system, three storey's high building. I like to thank Helio Guzman and his assistant Hector for quick responses, fair pricing and good job so far. We are hoping that the job done will last for a long long time. We surely will consider them for the next job available.

Joe is an excellent handy-man. I had him to do a few micelanious jobs around my house things that I could not do. Joe was fast and very efficient. He mount both my 65" and 50" inch TV to the wall, hooked up my fridge to the water supply, mount my drapes, and help me with heavy lifting, all that I needed him to do, was done perfect. Oh oh... Guess who just called? Its Joe, coming to look at my Broken Incinerator. Joe is promt, and very reliable and as I shop around, it is so easy to see that his price are much more reasonable than others.

We are 100% satisfied with the work Rod did repairing our gas dryer. We were able to get same day service (2 hours!) and he cleaned out the entire system as well. I will call him and recommend him for any future repair needs-I could not be happier with our experience.

We had Nick do some repair work to our bathroom, he was professional, and timely. He got all the work done quickly, explained everything he was doing to us and once he was done he cleaned everything up. I will definitely hire him again for any plumbing repair I might have in the future.

Thomas Renovations repaired my house after a tree fell on it and did quite a bit of damage. He did roof, siding, gutter and window repair. The house looks better than new, the work was outstanding and Jeff is excellent to work with. Not only that, but his pricing was more than reasonable. I highly recommend him to anyone.

My experience with Martin was outstanding! Our fridge/freezer was not cooling and he was able to diagnose what the issue was, which was a bad compressor (one of the winding coils was bad). He ordered the part and was able to install it a few days later and got the unit working like a champ! This is apparently one of the more difficult jobs for a technician to do as evidenced by the fact that other repair companies I contacted don't even offer the service. He had the right equipment and know-how to fix it. Additionally, if you're someone who wants to know what can cause an issue, how the system works, and have the work done at a great price, then Martin is your man. I would recommend Martin no questions asked.

We needed a hot water heater installed as a replacement for a failing one and a toilet unclogged. Shawn was available shortly after my request and exceeded my expectations. We encountered some complications with the water header and Shawn dealt with them on the spot and was transparent about the extra costs. He was courteous to my family and totally professional. The quality of the work looks great. I will definitely be looking to him for future projects.

As a single woman, Mr Fixit affirms with every task he is truly a handyman hero. Whether it's a vacuum cleaner that is not working correctly, a piece of siding on the house that the wind removed, blowing out gutters, fixing a tub drain that only drained very slowly and now no water collects during a shower at all... he's proven to be very reliable and timely. Highly recommend. Thanks Mr. Fixit! ... again, and again :D

Tim was not 'the' least nor 'most' expensive. having said that, he and his workmanship were still a great value. We came across a few problems with the job (due to cupboards not being level from a prior installer!) but Tim was able to find a means to solve the problem so we could continue with the project just the way I wanted it to look. A pleasure to work with him, and we would use him again when we need home repair/improvement projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
