Hard to find a therapist like Joan
Anna is a wonderful therapist. Very responsive and an excellent listener. Looking forward to seeing her again!
Tom has shown that he genuinely cares about how, when, and if I progress. He is invested in whether I actually achieve breakthroughs toward my personal success. Considering that my goals are so immense: to metamorphosize an ashamed, unhappy, ineffective, & lonely guy, with limited professional influence, into a proud, happy, effective, socially fulfilled, & profoundly influential version of myself, it would have been easy for him to give up on me. Even though I'm confident many life coaches in his position would have terminated our relationship months ago, dealing with such a high-maintenance client as myself - expressing to him hundreds of suggestions / criticisms / requests, expecting a personalized experience that caters to my individual needs, and offering frequent pessimism or guarded skepticism at best - he has been patient, flexible, & determined to support my progress. It has been several months since Tom started coaching me, and I have consciously delayed writing a review until I might have a sense not just that he cares and won't give up (after all, that's part of the job description), but that he will actually help me transform myself, in ways that countless others haven't. I have worked with therapist after therapist for years & years, undergone treatment with psychiatrists, hired dozens of countless project collaborators and personal assistants, and tried more times than I can remember to count on the support of family and friends in order to help me make the steady progress needed to break out of a deep debilitating personal rut that has lasted for decades. All of the above have been unsuccessful. I naturally wasn't expecting Tom to be any different. But I gave him a shot, deciding that I deserved a chance for renewed hope. I almost gave up on him and on myself, but he didn't give up on either. And finally, after months of 'blood, sweat, and tears,' I have come to believe there is hope at the end of the tunnel. I'm beginning to make steady transformative progress, and I'm looking forward to the journey that lies ahead. Prerequisites for success: I have to be patient, make a few reasonable leaps of faith, and make an investment in my future, emotionally and financially. I also have to be an active participant and be willing to gradually take the reins myself. I finally have to accept his limitations, while recognizing and counting on his strengths. His limitations: Tom is not a miracle worker, and in comparison to others I've worked with, he's not the most charismatic, inspiring, eloquent, forward, original, perceptive, intellectual, tech-savvy, exciting, or assertive. But his STRENGTHS far outweigh these limitations: He is persistent in his efforts. He is determined to be an ally on the road to victory, offering extra support when needed, never conceding defeat. He is compassionate, showing empathy for my experiences & struggles, frustrations and pain, & and my initial often-pessimistic attitude. He is patient, and will put in the time to understand, listen, and reevaluate / regroup when necessary. He is humble and modest, not expecting recognition, praise, notoriety, credit, or gratitude for going above and beyond. He is affordable, & ends up charging far less money than he could for his time, and far less than any of the other life coaches I considered, let alone being a mere fraction of the cost of a therapist or psychiatrist! He is respectful, as a friend would be, but sensitive & honors any boundaries I set. He never speaks down to me. He is honest, and when requested, very candid about what he thinks needs improvement, more, focus, or a shift in perception. He doesnt rub me the wrong way as a salesman might, as though Im a source of income, but always treats me like a person who deserves to achieve his dreams. He is passionate about helping people. He works very hard, often going above and beyond what others would do, putting his clients ahead of his personal life. He is fair, respects agreements, honors his word, readily forgives, and shows lenience. He is creative, willing to try to approach problems from new perspectives and angles. He is open-minded, willing to work with approaches and systems hes unfamiliar with that I know are likely to be effective. He is trusting, and gives me the benefit of the doubt, while also helping me to become more accountable. He is reliable, and I have been able to count on him in ways I couldnt count on therapists, employees, mentors, friends, & family. His system of "open access" helps me throughout the week, and this unique system of coaching has been the key to my success, helping me beat procrastination and not lose sight of my goals. He is flexible, & accommodates limitations, changes, and conflicts with my schedule, deficiencies in my attitude, and treats my perceived failures like learning opportunities to take a new, more promising approach. He is resilient, and puts up with much more than necessary for someone in his position, and never complained once to me about it. Finally, he is kind, complimentary, and friendly. He's like that 'conscience on your shoulder.' I would recommend him to anyone who is considering hiring a life coach, or to anyone who has unfulfilled dreams they know they deserve to and could achieve, but haven't. Thank you, Tom, for your efforts, and quality work :)
Michel truly understands how the teenage boy brain works and over the last 4 years has helped both of my boys navigate some rough times all while supporting me as their mom. His background in academia and life coaching along with his therapy approaches, provided my college son with better self-understanding and skills to push through his struggles. After trying several other therapists who he just couldn’t relate to, my younger son blossomed under his help & guidance and is now more self-confident, motivated and sees a future that is worth working towards. In his words, Michel “helped me get going on life.”
I've had to relocate several times for work, and each time I've had to get a new therapist. Alison is by far the best. I've done deeper work with her. Other therapists helped me understand my patterns and how they were formed, but Alison helped me change them. I can't say enough good things about how skilled and caring and professional she is!
Gabriella's knowledge and experience as a life coach are surpassed only by her creativity as she makes it fun and easy to make her lessons meaningful and applicable in our daily lives. For me saying out loud to someone, this is what I want to do, started the process. Knowing that I had to be accountable motivated me. Gabriella suggested I set my goals incrementally; this is something I would have not done myself. As a result of this, I attained my goals and feel better about myself. Clearly, her enthusiasm is a testament to her commitment to helping others make healthier lifestyle changes.
Sheri is an outstanding and compassionate therapist! She is very real and honest, and does not afraid to speak her thoughts and offer new perspectives and ways of operation. I've been to several therapists in the past, but I've never met someone quit like Sheri- our work together was transformational! i know that my experience with Sheri have made some very important things in my life possible: relationships, affirming my true self, how to be a woman in this world and many other things. If you are prepared to do the work, and look at reality in the eyes, and go deep, work through the pain to find truth and transformation - I would recommend Sheri Heller.
Dan Minuchin is an outstanding family therapist, mental health consultant, trainer, teacher and clinical supervisor. I have had the fortune of working with him and observing him in all of these roles over the past several years. I initially worked with Dan about 10 years ago when I was a supervisor at agency that provided family therapy and services to families struggling with adolescents and families involved in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. In this setting, he provided case consultation, supervision, and training to a team of social workers and family therapists. This model included live supervision and the use of a one way mirror. Dan would also accompany therapists on home visits to provide live consultations in the family's home. I later became a director of another similar family service program. I was able to hire Dan to provide Structural Family Therapy training to my entire clinical staff, as well as consultation, individual and group clinical supervision. His guidance and training was very well received by my staff and their skills as family therapists improved significantly. Dan is really a master trainer and has worked as a family therapist, teacher and trainer for several decades. He has an incredibly diverse personal and professional background and experience working with families of all walks of life. He is sensitive and well informed of the needs and experiences of families of color, immigrant families, LGBTQ families, blended families, Jewish Orthodox families, families struggling with substance abuse and mental illness, delinquent teens, children with special needs, and families dealing with divorce, loss and separation. I have referred many families to Dan and I feel confident that he is able to work with the most complex families of all backgrounds. Dan is thoughtful and empathic and has very high ethical standards. His structural and strategic approach to addressing problems is highly effective and families often will see progress in a short amount of time. I am a family therapist and clinician as well, and Dan has provided me with outstanding clinical supervision and guidance and has been instrumental in my own professional growth as a therapist and clinical supervisor.
Ed is a wonderful therapist. Easy to talk to and a great listener. Highly recommended.
Tina Kahn has been my therapist for many years. Just a few words and phrases to describe her as an individual therapist, group therapist and human being : empathic, kind, wise, interactive, passionate about helping her patients, well informed about a number of techniques to help reach your goals. Tina truly cares about you, and makes you feel that she is interested in you and your welfare. She has helped me to have compassion for myself while I grow as a person, and improve my relationship with my husband and my children. I am grateful.
She is a very experienced, intuitive and emphatic therapist who helps one help oneself in a direct but gentle fashion using humor and seriousness. I would recommend her to anyone willing to face themselves.
Judy has been a great therapist for me - from our first session, I felt comfortable in opening up and it seemed as though she had a clear approach to addressing areas I wanted to work on. She’s good about keeping in touch and tracking my progress across sessions - I would definitely recommend her!
Lorraine hits all the checks of a good therapist; she is warm, open, smart, compassionate, convivial and a great listener. Among the elements that set her apart and make her outstanding are that: she is prepared to sift through lots of chatter without being sidetracked, you can enjoy a relaxed conversation with her and still come back around to what's important, she never loses focus on the issues. Lorraine is very skilled at overcoming resistance. She is also good at helping you look at your own anger from your partner's perspective. She doesn't judge, she helps us look past petty distractions to common goals and positive elements. Without being overbearing she has many therapists tricks up her sleeve, which she uses to good effect to help people in the difficult process of self examination. For us as a couple she has been very helpful in guiding us to find compromises and common ground. In every way she puts her clients needs first, in terms of scheduling, payment and within the sessions themselves, she is flexible and fair. During our treatment we transitioned from office visits to FaceTime without any hiccups. Working with Lorraine has yielded tangible improvements in our relationship. We recommend her without reservation. Gilberto and Gabrielle.
I've worked with Abe for the last 6 years - he saved my life - from a metaphorical perspective of having one, being alive, and loving my experience, to a literal one - had things continued as they were before I ran across him (through sheer luck), I could see suicide becoming more and more of a real consideration. Instead, basically, everything's changed for me now - I have boundaries now, know how and when to stand up for them, understand my childhood so much more, get along better with EVERYONE in my life now, and have a path in my life that I love. It's exciting. Pure grace that Abe's work came into my life. He's not the most conventional therapist in the world, but he just may be one of the very best, and ACTUALLY effective.
Brent has a physical presence, which grounds our relationship. I feel completely at ease 5 - 10 minutes into our sessions, even when I am very anxious and/or restless at the beginning. He is very caring, and I feel this the entire time I am with him. He has a natural and unconditional curiosity about me, but he is not intrusive at all. He is very economical in terms of his use of language. Bottom line: highly recommended if you are looking for a grounding, curious, caring and physically present therapist.
I had the pleasure of working with Nataliya at Bellevue Hospital as part of a multi-disciplinary team. She is a thoughtful, considerate, warm and engaging therapist who offers excellent, practical advice. She will work hard to understand the underlying issues and share her knowledge, expertise and resources.
Linda is an awesome therapist. I couldn't be more happy to find someone so compassionate and understanding. She has been able to provide awesome advise for my marriage as well as personal. I will definitely recommend Dr. Towle to my family and friends!
I've been struggling with anxiety and anger issues since teenage years, and have tried therapy in the past but never stuck with it because I always found myself getting impatient with the therapists or the process. However, Dr Eskalyo slowly but efficiently helps me realize the benefits of psychotherapy, by digging deeper into my subconscious mind. She never makes me feel judged, or pressured. Scheduling is flexible, which works with my crazy work schedule. She's also very cooperative and patient with paperworks for my insurance. I highly recommend Dr Eskalyo, especially for those who are skeptical but would like to try therapy.
Debora is a thoughtful and creative therapist who is committed to helping her patients achieve their goals and unafraid to challenge them in that pursuit.
