There's no waisting time with this guy, but that's what you would expect with a former military trainer. He pushes hard but obviously at the level you're at. I'm a beginner but it's clear he's a pro. He knows the body very well, and recognized my strengths and weaknesses the first session. Joey explains very thoroughly and has a lot of patience, I thought he would scream at me like a bootcamp trainer haha but he was actually very kind and professional. I highly recommend!

i have been training with Brenda for 9 months now and she is great! Before Brenda, I did have a very good trainer in another city but then I moved to NYC, so I knew what the standard was for someone who would push you but also understand your personal needs and tailor the workout to make sure you are satisfied. I used Thumbtack to find a trainer and read positive reviews about Brenda and decided to give it a try--she has lived up to all expectations. Her schedule is flexible so she can meet you when and where is best for you (some trainers' schedules are too packed and if you're 5 minutes late, they take 5 min off the end of your session, or do not let you reschedule a session without giving you a hard time). She tailors the workouts so if you want to do something on a particular day or are feeling a bit sore in one area, she will work around that but still make sure you are getting an intense workout. Brenda is friendly and personable to talk to and will advise you on anything from nutrition to specific workout regimens to improve a muscle group. It's important to find a trainer who you really get along with and feel comfortable around, and I have found it very easy to work with Brenda. I'm 100% satisfied--highly recommended!

RETRO GLAM, an all female band signed to Premier Entertainment Group/SonyRED had the pleasure training with Lauren "LC" Wells in her super intense private "Bootcamp" group sessions. She pushed and motivated us in a upbeat and encouraging way while keeping the energy high and fun. She is creative, caring and very passionate about what she does. She truly creates a positive work out environment and makes it fun to sweat off the calories while doing it to the music we love. Would highly recommend! A+++ -Written by Tami "REDStar" of RETRO GLAM.

I've been participating in Tim's Bootcamp sessions for the last four months and am very happy with the results. I feel stronger everyday and have even lost some stubborn pounds by participating in his 28 Day "Drop A Dress Size Challenge." Tim is a motivator and makes his classes fun. He offers the classes three times a day and is flexible in accommodating his clients' needs. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is serious about taking control of their health, getting in shape and being the best they can be! Thanks, Tim!!!

Christina from Active Wellness responded very quickly to my request for a personal trainer. I originally reached out for a trainer to help keep me accountable in getting back to shape. I have had several fractures along my right arm the past few years which has made it difficult for me to get back into an exercise routine. Christina worked with me for several personal training sessions for about a month to get me "boot-camp ready." I've been going to the AM bootcamp for several months and feel great! Christina and Drew offer a welcoming supportive environment that makes it worth waking up before the sun rises to work out. I feel stronger and more energetic than I have in a long time. Thanks Christina and Drew!

Training with Margaret isn't something that you do just to improve your health and stamina, it's a positive lifestyle choice. I've taken Margaret's H2O Bootcamp course which felt more like running a 1/2 marathon both in terms of the amount of energy expended in one hour as well as the immense pride that I felt after completing each class. I've also trained with Margaret in one-on-one and small group training sessions. She is a knowledgeable master motivator who manages to not only get the job done but makes you feel good throughout the process! I recommend her without any reservations whatsoever. Margaret is a trainer beyond compare!!!

I worked with Marlon for 3+ years and throughout that time was able to reach a level of fitness that I was unable to achieve on my own. Rather than just moving from machine to machine in the gym (which was always my past experience) he combined functional movements, HIIT, body weight exercises and Bootcamp style drills to keep me motivated and see results.

Karen has been my boot camp instructor at Personal Best in Garwood since Dec. 2009. Karen helped me to get back into shape. I wanted to get back into working out but was having a hard time at the Gym by myself. She provided me with exercises that were appropriate for my body and helped me to loose weight. Each boot camp class is different, which I like a lot! She pushes me to perform at my best, which is what I need. I even continued to attend Karen's bootcamp classes during my two pregnancies, and she helped to modify the exercises for me, plus she was very knowledgable about what I could and couldn't do while pregnant. Thank you! :)

My time spent in the Untamed Beings Bootcamp was challenging, tiresome, and straineous in the best ways imaginable. The head trainer Eric McClain is an excellent motivator, clear and fluent demonstrator, and one to make you feel comfortable not only with new excersizes, but with pushing your limits. I would recommend to anyone looking for a physical challenge with tremendous payoff.

Words can not express how much Mubarakah Ibrahim means to me. She has not only trained me to get the results I needed, but has also helped me to change my perspective on my health and life. I will never forget my first day of bootcamp. This exciting woman welcomed me in such a caring way. I knew from that day, I could only allow her to be apart of my fitness journey. She has taught me how to eat healthier and deal with setbacks that we sometimes face. My first weigh in, I lost 6lbs in 4 days. Her response was "you are a magician"! That remark built my confidence and I knew whatever workout she designed, I would achieve it! The best thing about working out with Mubarakah is that she makes it FUN, EXCITING, and ACHIEVABLE! She is the best! I am thankful for her! Come on! What are you waiting for? Join today!!!

Lenny and Dario at Personal Best are...well...the best!!! I cannot say enough good things about them. Within the first year of training there I was down 80 pounds!!! I am coming to the end of year number two with an additional 30 pounds lost for a total of 110 pounds that went bye-bye. That's the obvious benefit of my time at PB Fitness. Their facility is always clean and has the latest equipment. They are always furthering their own education researching the latest in diet and exercise and bringing that education to their clients. I've become so interested in diet and fitness because of the gym that I've started down the road of becoming a trainer myself. Another thing I love is their attention to me as an individual. They do not have cookie cutter big box gym diet and exercise programs that they just hand out to everyone. They take the time to understand what I specifically needed. Took into account past injuries, what I enjoy doing, what my specific goals are, and things like family history, allergies, and food sensitivities on the diet side. Checking in with me multiple times a week via text and phone keeps me motivated and gives me a feeling like I am part of their family. Give them a try...your body will thank you!!!

I took a few bootcamp classes before, but I was truly impressed after I tried Xceed. The wide variation of exercises provided a true full body workout and I felt great after I left the class. There was a good group of people and we all had great time. The instructors are awesome ans made the class fun. They also offer nutritional planning and the price is cheaper than any local bootcamps. Im definitely looking forward to coming back.

    About

What's a Guerrero? Guerrero is Spanish for warrior. We all have the warrior inside us that wants to be free. I teach and train you to "unleash your inner warrior" to accomplish any goals your heart desires! A true warrior is relaxed in body and mind, in stressful situations in life, and other areas are fun challenges to a Guerrero. But I just want to workout, so why? Being relaxed in the mind and body is the ultimate key in losing weight. Cortisol keeps your body in a gaining weight mode and makes you feel like crap. Exercise is consciously applied stress to mind and body, so if you have a hard time relaxing majority of the day, it will make burning fat 10 times harder. Training is 80% mental. What to expect at Guerreros? Guerreros Mind Body Bootcamp offers a unique class that blends cardio core strength conditioning, martial arts movement, yoga, and meditation to promote a safe and faster progress in balanced body and mind. Don't just be a gym member. Be a Guerrero!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

      • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
      • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
      • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
      • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
      • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
      • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
      • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). If your lessons are in a martial arts studio, you may not be permitted to wear shoes, so bring clean socks if you don’t like to go barefoot. If your training includes sparring, you may be required to wear a mouthguard and/or protective headgear. Whether you’re in a group fitness class or hardcore training session, bring a sweat towel for your comfort and the comfort of people around you.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.
