My husband and I take pride in our home and are really picky when it comes to the craftsman we hire. We are very pleased to have the privilege to work with Micheal Chennels. We simply can't say enough positive things about our experience with him. After our initial meeting with Mike choosing to hire him over other applicants was a no brainer. He is very friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, honest, professional, trustworthy, and offers competitive pricing. Mike is multi-talented and is super easy to work with. So far we have hired him to help us create a material list for our home's exterior trim, and build/install our custom kitchen cabinets. We are very happy with how everything is turning out so far. Using the technical drawings we provided Mike built cabinet boxes and will soon be building the cabinet doors and helping with our installation. He goes above and beyond to make sure every detail is perfect. He is very adamant about how important his reputation is and wants to ensure his clients are 100% happy with his work. We are so anxious to see the finished project and will be sure to share pictures when the kitchen is installed. Please feel free to contact me if you are considering hiring Mike.

First class all around. Started by putting request on thumbtack for windows. Met many window installers but Jasse from Weedsport window and glass sold me. Great price and not pushy at all. We talked about true quality of windows and the specs that make a window worth the money. **Don't let big brand name companies say theirs are better because spec wise what Weedsport Windows offers is just as good if not better (I did extensive research). Once windows were ordered the process flew by. Windows came in on a Wednesday and were installed the next day. Jasse and his crew were personable and most importantly great at what they do. Little things like putting down drop clothe prior to taking out old windows, taking off shoes when coming into the home to the more important perfectly mitered trim and windows installed correctly! Quick installation with quality work and unbeatable price I highly recommend Weedsport Window and Glass!

We had an excellent experience. BC Cleaning was highly professional, returned all phone calls and emails in a timely manner, and, most important, did excellent work. I have referred them to several friends who are planning to use them. My only suggestion would be that we used them only for the exterior windows and I wish they had quoted us and advised us to do exterior, interior, sills, and screens, as it probably wouldn't have been much more money but would have made a big difference in how clean the windows appear.

I highly recommend Rich from R. Trout House to Home for any of your home remodeling projects. He was so easy to work with, very personable and polite. He also made suggestions on designing plans but was not over the top and made me feel as if it was my project and not his. Definitely happy with my decision to hire R. Trout House to Home.

Several years ago Tom remodeled our business to add two new offices. Tom's work was of the best quality, competitive price and done on time. A few years later, as our needs changed, we had to add new office space and remodel some old offices into a new production area for new equipment. The first person that came to mind was Tom. Tom tackled that job the same as he did the first with quality, price and on time completion. This last job was a little harder as at the last moment we found that we needed to open up a doorway to get the equipment in and also add a ventilation system. Tom worked with the equipment installers and got everything done in a timely manner and we were able to get the equipment up and running to meet our production needs. The next time we need a project done, Tom is at the top of our short list. Ralph Liverpool Litho

I could not be happier with the service that Justin has offered. He was unbelievably quick to respond and has been nothing but professional the entire time. Initially I was hesitant at first to hire because of the previous review, but I am so thankful I hired him because him and his team did an excellent job fixing my roof. They removed our metal roof and the layers underneath it and put on the shingles that we picked out. He was substantially cheaper than anyone else that we could find in the Watertown area to come out and do our job. Not only did he fix our roof while he was out here, but helped us while we were moving out by removing some of our waste that we had, and rebuilding our entire porch ceiling that was rotting for nearly nothing. We were in a rush to get the job so we could move out, and he dropped everything for us. My family could not be more thankful for the job that he's done for our house and it looks tenfold better. I would recommend him over any other roofer that we have dealt with. We have hired two previous roofing companies that blew us off half the time, and one broke our heavy duty composter and didn't even bother saying anything. Do not listen to his first review here. It is nothing further from the truth.

Frank is willing to do almost any kind of work. He is conscientious about doing it right and gets to work promptly. If he is going to be delayed or thinks the weather will interfere with working he always calls to let us know. He has done gardening, landscaping, junk removal, rototilling, delivered loads of rocks and mulch. He has helped with installing an awning. Frank has a positive attitude and is in good physical condition so he works fast. His services don't come cheap, but he is worth it.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
