FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$60.00/hour I will teach 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons. I am happy to combine instruments.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We begin by discussing your goals and why you decided to start or continuing studying your instrument. I want to know what kind of music you listen to, what you like to perform, and if any musicians or performers have influenced you. VOICE: I start with vocal exercises to determine your range and experience. Also, I want you to experience my natural and fun approach to experimenting with everything our voices can do. I may or may not ask you to bring a song, depending on your age and experience level, and we will spend half of our lesson working on repertoire that interests you. PIANO: For very young students and beginners we will start with a basic introduction to the piano and basic technique. I usually bring my own materials and recommend a book, but I'm happy to continue with whatever repertoire you are comfortable playing. Advanced players will focus on sold technique, musicianship, sight-reading, scales, and varied repertoire from Classical to R&B. VIOLIN: I teach my own combination of Suzuki and Roland technique. I am a stickler for good position, posture, and technique from the very beginning of my Violin lessons. However, I have a lot of tricks and techniques that make playing the Violin fun and rewarding during these beginning stages. I stress the importance of reading music, scales, ear-training, and improvisation so students are prepared to play a variety of styles and compositions on their Violins. Again, emphasis is put on the joy of playing, the rewarding process of practicing, and personal creativity and exploration. GUITAR: I teach beginning to intermediate guitar. My background is in rock, folk, and theater music, so if you are looking for Classical guitar lessons, I may not be the right choice for you! We emphasis rhythm, scales, progressions, and music reading (tablature and staff) in our lessons. I'm familiar with rewriting parts for younger players, so they can still play their favorite songs. I LOVE to teach both singing and guitar (at the same time), so if you are a singer-songwriter, or perhaps a bandmate who's looking to sharpen their vocals, we will get a long very well. I teach and work with a variety of musicians from metal guitarists and vocalists, to folk singer-songwriters, to classic rock cover band members.
