FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It is typical for private tutors to be paid $30-$45 per hour. In addition to the actual teaching, planning and preparation can take as much as 45 minutes to an hour for hour of actual lesson time, so this is not unreasonable. For many families, this is prohibitive, so I have accepted $20-$25 per hour for my services.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a public school tutor, I have required and optional professional development a few times each year; i take advantage of it whenever I can. A few years ago, I took the required courses to be certified in Reading Recovery through the Ohio State University. I then taught struggling 1st grade readers using these methods. Although my district chose not to continue to have Reading Recovery in our intervention offerings, I still use the valuable tools I learned in my courses.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had happy, successful school experiences as a child and still love learning. I want to help struggling children have the same.
