We hired Mike to update our screened in porch. Our porch did not have any rails and was in need of all new screens and a new door. We then had porch and outside deck restained. Mike power washed all before adding rails, screens and staining. Quality of work is very good. Mike gave us a reasonable quote and completed the job when he said he would. Nice, polite, quiet and clean! After completion and paying, we had an issue with the screened door. Mike came right back and fixed it. We have more projects for him. We will definitely use him. Highly recommended.

Rod was chosen from five bidders, all of whom were close in their estimates. Unlike the others, he initially mentioned renovation options ( both interior and exterior ) that had not been considered in the planning. No one else "thought outside the box". This was a complete renovation of a house to prepare it for sale: new flooring throughout, new padding and carpeting throughout, much repair work of damaged wood and walls, a wood-burning fireplace rehab; installation of new vanities, sinks, mirrors, med. cabinets and accessories, 5 new ceiling fans, power washing, painting shutters and repair and painting of storage shed, caulking around foundation, installation of all new interior and exterior doors. You can see that the job was all-encompassing and Rod was up to the task and did some unique repairs along the way. The only two detours included four dead electrical outlets that still need to be repaired by an electrician and the time frame ran more than 3 and 1/2 months. If you are willing to be patient, Rod will do a bang-up job for you. He would text pictures of items for my approval before he would make a purchase. He provided me with a receipt for everything that was required for the job. This was an $11,000+ investment, but the new owner is not going to have any headaches once they move in. I hope to hire Rod again for work at my own residence and would comfortably make a referral to anyone in need of his services.

Dave and crew did a great job on our side steps and retaining wall. The steps were sinking and cracked, very steep and narrow making it very hard to use in the winter time. The block wall was deteriorating along the steps, with big voids along the wall. The base slab had a crack as well. They tore out the old steps and slab, and ripped out the bad section of block. Replaced the block, and poured new steps and slab making it much easier to use. Definitely recommend, and will be scheduling more work on my driveway come spring. Pictures of before and after are attached.

Matt and the team at CLE door came and did my garage doors today. My overall experience was fantastic. There were three facets I look for when it comes to a reputable company. First, are they knowledgeable...without question these guys know it all when it comes to garage doors. Second, how is the customer service...I think this was the best part of the experience because they were very personable and really care about the appearance of your house. They really value adding to the curb appeal of your house. Finally, are they effective and efficient...answer is simply yes they got there at 2 took down the old doors promptly and got the new doors up with openers by 5 then the cleaned up thoroughly. This company is flat out the best you will deal with for garage doors. I will recommend them to anyone.

I received a response, quote, AND my repair was completed all on the same day that I created my request! I couldn't be happier with the service I received from Dave and 24 Hour Door. I fully expected to have to replace my garage door opener, but 24 Hour Door quickly diagnosed the issue and fixed it on the spot for a fraction of what I might have paid another service provider or for a replacement. Would highly recommend!

These guys are great. Very straight forward on pricing. Showed up when they said and got the work done perfectly. Did a few other side jobs for me, including building a barn door, that turned out well and when I was looking for the scrap lumber I found they had stacked it all neatly in an outbuilding. Would hire them again for any job.

Dan was great to work with! Very professional, friendly, responded quickly to all of my emails/texts. He had to remove a 2 car garage door and insert a single garage door, which entailed adding / building a wall to replace the opening. Great job overall!! Would recommend him highly..

If I was going to schedule my garage door tension spring to break, I wouldn't choose Sunday. I called these guys and got a real person on the line and scheduled my appointment for 7PM that evening. On. A. Sunday! They were ontime (early, actually), efficient and economical. Let's put it this way, Cory had both my garage door springs and main bearing replaced faster than it took me to watch the YouTube video on how to change a garage door spring. Always nice to find a local company that does great work. Sadly, with the 10 year warranty I probably won't need them for a while, but I recommend them highly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.
