My 12 year old daughter has been with Vince and the Corryville Suzuki Project for the past 5-1/2 years. Vince teaches her private lessons, as well as several group ensembles. The first thing that struck me about Vince was how he always addressed my daughter directly, even at age 7, rather than assuming that the adult needed to answer all of the questions. This really helped to build a good rapport between teacher and student from the beginning. Vince has a genuine love for kids, as evidenced by how he dotes on my other 3 younger daughters when they come along to lessons! You can tell he really enjoys teaching kids. His approach to teaching is very positive, with plenty of praise, and the “criticism” (if you can call it that) is always delivered in a positive manner, never demeaning. The atmosphere at group class is always positive and non-competitive, and the sense of community among students, parents, and teachers is very strong. The musical instruction is, in my opinion, top-notch. I feel that Vince has mastered the art of pushing his students to be the best technical musicians they can be, while balancing that with the enjoyment and love of the violin, without burning out.

I cannot say enough positive things about the Corryville Suzuki Project, and our experience working with Vincent Phelan. The encouraging non competitive atmosphere, coupled with excellent teaching and high expectations, has fostered a love for violin and music in general in my son. Mr. Phelan has an excellent understanding of child development and is able to interact with each child according to his or her needs, including children with special needs. My child began studying violin at age 4, upon his request. At the time he was being treated with various therapies for dyspraxia, low muscle tone, and sensory integration disorder. Mr. Phelan's positive attitude, endless creativity, and constant encouragement helped my son develop a talent for music that we had no idea that he had. In fact his therapist at the time discouraged us from allowing him to try the violin because she didn't think he could do it. He is now 9 years old and is currently working through the 4th book of the Suzuki repertoire. He plays beautifully, and we are so proud. I highly recommend the Corryville Suzuki Project for anyone considering a violin program for their child.
