Mike did a great job washing my second-story slider window plus screen. He also cleaned out my gutters, which were very full of debris from a pine tree. Mike arrived early to the appointment. Very pleased!

Shawn did a wonderful job on my lawn. My lawn mower stopped working, and Shawn was able to come out the same day to provide an estimate of the job and mow my lawn! He is very nice, professional, and I highly recommend. Thanks again!

I was referred to Swift Tree Service from a neighber of mine. They removed two big trees from the front of my house. Very professional and very good price comper to other tree services. In no time both trees were gone and the house looks so much better now. I would recommend them to anyone who needs trees removed

We had a tree removed several months ago. After all the settling, there were still big roots and part of the stump remaining. Bryan came and ground out the whole area again for us. He made the center of the circle deeper, so it would be easier for us to replant another tree. He was friendly, courteous, prompt and very reasonable in his pricing. He even cleaned up the edges of the area he worked on, and cleaned off our driveway. We highly recommend Bryan!

Very professional and careful when removing damaged trees limbs from around homes. Service was very mindful to not create ruts/mess of the yard when getting truck in to do trimming. They kept in constant communication with arrival times and did not skip a beat. I also tipped them for the job because of the willingness to drive back and get a trailer for removal of the tree. Very professional, personable and timely.

The crew at Jake's Landscapes did a great job installing river rock and a new tree in my front yard. In addition, they did great work on the Spring clean-up and removal of several bushes as well. I would definitely recommend them to friends, clients, and neighbors.

I hired Clinton to level out my front yard after my house was connected to the street sewer lines. He did a very good job and I would use his service again. In fact, I've scheduled him to come back and prune/shape up my flowering cherry tree. It's good to know his services are available in the future.

Lance and Alex were awesome! They were on time, they were thorough, they cleaned up after the job. They even painted a short section of picket fence for me and I didn't even ask them to take care of that. They came to look at the job, which was a very overgrown front and backyard. I told them I was looking for a 'blank slate' kind of look so that I could list the property for sale. They powered through all the overgrowth, they cut down small trees, they weed-wacked huge shrubs, they power-washed the house. The place looks great! And I even forgot to show them one side of the house, which was a veritable jungle, and when I told them AFTER they quoted me for the job, they said they'd take care of it at no additional charge. I increased their payment, of course, because they deserved it even though they didn't ask for it. Great guys!

I liked Geremy immediately. I told him what I wanted for my years-neglected yard, we walked around and he knew every plant hidden in the weeds of the former gardens. He gave me good advice and took care of what I needed. Now I have clean garden beds, trimmed shrubs, and trees that were growing in the garden transplanted to better locations. Geremy then told me what my newly repaired gardens need next, and I hope to be able to do that myself. We'll see! They did the entire job in one day for a good price. Next year, I plan to call him to clean up another long neglected area of the yard. I just cannot do it all at once. I would absolutely not hesitate to call him.

I’m so glad we hired Jerry "Does It All”. Jerry and his daughter Angela are great and really knowledgable about the trees and bushes in our over grown yard. So far they have cleared away the weeds and trimmed all the bushes up. Next we plan to lay new mulch and plant some new bushes etc. We plan to continue working with Jerry "Does It All” because they are relatable and get the job done at a great price. I highly recommend them. Reliable family team.

Great experience. Matt understood the vision I had for my front yard landscape; it came out beautifully! I had new soil put down, mulch, shrubs, trees, and perennials installed. Easy to work with and very knowledgeable. His team did a really good, clean job with the layout and putting it all together. Props to all involved!

We previously had 20 trees removed and were left with multiple mounds of mulch/dirt, excessive wetness (swamp areas), and overall uneven/overgrown back third of the yard. Cornerstone came in and leveled the yard, installed a drain connecting to the main drain system, and reseeded the worked areas, which almost doubled the size of useable space of our yard. From the first estimate, they set themselves above the competition. I got estimates from multiple companies, but Cornerstone was the only one who actually measured the current grade of the yard to find the lowest point to put the drain, as well as give a more accurate estimate. We were thoroughly impressed with the number of ways they went above and beyond in communication and proffessionalism. I would highly suggest Cornerstone for any landscaping project!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
