Although I have zero professional dog training experience, I do have a human/animal psychology degree, so I know which schools of thought work best and which are pseudoscience and Lisa uses the best current method available called operant conditioning, or positive reinforcement. It sounds simple, but without professional help it can be hard to figure out what exercises to use when you want to remove unwanted behaviors instead of just training your dog to do tricks. It can also be difficult to phase out treat use once a behavior is mastered (since no one wants to need perpetual treats to achieve good behavior). Lisa makes all that guesswork easy by giving you training exercise "homework" each week customized to your dog's behavioral needs, which will lead to newly shaped desirable behaviors to replace undesirable ones. You can tell she is really passionate about what she does. She doesn't judge or try to correct what you find acceptable behavior in your own dog as some trainers will (i.e. allowing dogs on furniture) but she instead listens to YOUR behavioral goals for your dog and helps get you there. Last but not least, her price is the best I've seen for her amazing skill level. To compare, I sent my dog to a training center for just a week, and it was $750 for him to come back with sit, stay, lay down, and heel which are great commands, but at that price Lisa could have come to my house 13 times. Plus, they used a prong collar on unwanted behaviors that we're still using as management only (even in the house which I fear will cause injury) which is why we called Lisa. We're already on a path to no leash indoors with a 6 month old goldendoodle.

This was my 2nd experience with a dog trainer after a previous experience that really left a bad taste in my mouth. But from the moment Lisa came into the house and met my dog I was immediately comforted. She was excellent with my German Shepherd and fixed his aggression and obedience issues within a couple sessions. She even brought her own family over to help deal with my dog's territory issues in the house with guests. Her passion for working with dogs is obvious, and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great trainer!

Lisa is amazing with dogs! Our high energy and out of control Golden was showing improvement after just one session. She really individualizes the training for what the dog and family need to work on. I highly recommend!

Katie was one of the trainers who trained my service dog as a puppy. Without Katie's hard work, Leni would not be the partner for me that she is. Leni is not a quiet, obedient dog. She has a mind of her own and can be a bit too smart for her own good. Katie set the foundation for Leni's training when she was a puppy so that she could be the dog she is for me today. I now rely on Leni as my medical alert dog to keep me safe, and it is the obedience training foundation and task training that she received that make her able to do her job and do it well. Having Leni has changed my life, and the training Katie did with her has been a huge reason that Leni has become the service dog that she is. Katie is incredibly talented as a trainer and knows how to connect with each dog to get the best out of them. Choosing Katie to train your dog will not disappoint!

During the first training session that my dog and I had with Katie she listened to my areas of concern and immediately went to work teaching both me, and my dog, how to get the results that I wanted. She knew how to handle my breed of dog and what would work best for him. Katie gave me different techniques to use and had me practice. This was important to me because I wanted to learn how to teach my dog in the long term and not just have someone do it for me. I will use Katie again as I begin to fine tune my dogs skills and to move to more advanced commands.

We were thrilled with Katie's skills and abilities from the first lesson. Katie is very personable, our dogs were very responsive to her training techniques. Katie demonstrates the techniques than has us practice in her presence so that we get the commands and techniques in place.

Terry Cook is a great dog trainer with so much experience and he breaks everything down into understandable steps! I had a Pit Bull Terrier that was very reactive to strangers and her surroundings plus I wouldn't dream of her being off leash. Yet with obedience and behavior modification mixed all together after 6 private lessons I have an off leash dog that gets so many compliments out in public! Highly recommended!

Terry trained my dog who had already been through training. The best part, he taught me how to train her and explained why and what my dog understands. It has been very positive and progressive. I did not believe him when he said I would be walking my dog off leash. After two sessions, my dog is walking with me off leash. It is incredible. Thanks again Terry!

I can not recommend Terry Cook enough it's like I have a brand new dog! To have training where my dog is no longer reactive on a leash but can be off leash as well makes his training one of the best. Thank you Terry!

Julie is a master at positive reinforcement training. She helped me bring a nearly "autistic" puppy mill dog out of his shell, and is now working with me on a hard case: a super-smart rescue Weimadane with an overwhelming prey drive. Julie is passionate and devoted to the idea of helping dog owners have the best possible relationship with their dogs. I recommend her to everyone.

I've worked with Julie as a dog trainer in both group classes and private sessions. I find her to be very knowledgeable with an infectious enthusiasm and an ability to explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Also available for phone consults. Very professional and always responds in a timely fashion. I highly recommend her to anyone I speak to.

Julie certainly has a way with dogs! They immediately gravitate to her, and I was amazed that in minutes they were responding to her commands! We were really the ones who needed trained. The great thing is, she is as patient with slow learning owners as she is with dogs, so it was a great experience. I highly recommend Julie Fudge Smith for dog training!

Amy has boarded one of our puppies and she has worked with several of our dogs for basic training and another for scent detection work. I was impressed and pleased with her skills. She has an innate sense of how to motivate a dog and can bring out the best in them. Amy is dedicated to her profession and continues to upgrade her training. She is easy to work with and professional in all regards. I can confidently and highly recommend her.

Durfey's Dogs took care of my Ellie for 2 weeks, training her the basics and advanced skills. They are clearly passionate about dogs and each individual dog's needs (Ellie has a weak leg). Ellie came back a quieter, happy puppy who can enjoy the outdoors in a safer way, thanks to Durfey's Dogs!

Amy is a great resource. She is an experienced dog trainer and we learned so much from her gentle but firm training methods. Our growing puppy is doing well because of the structure Amy helped us put in place. She is reliable, responsible and trustworthy. I am looking forward to working with her for animal watching (have chickens, too) in the future. And maybe another puppy! Thank you and have a great day!

Not only is Megan incredibly afforable, but she is very patient, laidback, and serious about dogs! She has worked wonderfully with my schedule and has never scold me for having to reschedule training (I am a student). She is very patient with my corgi, Gravity, and only uses positive reinforcement. Gravity loves her! Because she is younger than a lot of dog trainers out there, I felt a lot more comfortable with her. No intimidation whatsoever. As a plus, Megan has been completely open about me texting her questions about training, problems.etc and gets back with thorough replies quickly everytime! She even writes clear, easy to read 'homework' for me after each session, so I can successfully continue Gravitys training. She is definitely be my 'go-to' dog trainer from now on!

I met Megan at the Wags Fest this year at Prairie Oaks and was instantly drawn to her positive calm demeanor and knowledge of dogs and training. I hit the jackpot with Megan and her training my puppy. She believes in consistent positive reinforcement and seeing the difference in my dog each week is amazing. Each week we work on a different training technique and I know I can contact Megan anytime with a question or concern and she will respond right away!

Megan has a gift relating with animals, for sure. She showed us so many helpful training tips, taught us to be patient with progress, and was kind and engaging all the way. If you practice what she teaches you and your pup, you will be very happy with the results. We learned dog training is as much learning for you as it is for your dog, and Megan was an excellent person to teach us that.

He worked with Bruno because he wasn’t listening. By the time he left Brian’s he was sitting, listening, staying, and obeying all the commands! Very patient with him. And he kept telling us over and over that patience is what we need and we can’t show him that we are defeated! Brian would keep going back to him and repeating the command over and over again with him. If he didn’t listen, he went back! I was truly impressed! I highly recommend Brian for a trainer!

I would recommend this company to anyone! They did an outstanding job with the remodel of my master bathroom. I was impressed with the care they took on each detail that i specified, i also appreciate their openness to working with my busy schedule. They were neat and clean and got the job done without leaving it a mess in between visits. This is truly a professional business.

I'm a new foster mama, and my 2 dogs were not accepting the newcomer. Tim came out and gave some wonderful insight and training tips. He's very knowledgeable and hands on with the training. He was patient with all of us too - big plus with small dog attitudes! I would not hesitate to reach out and have Tim over again for training and education.

I can’t thank Kathleen enough for her help. Our pup Mochi came home from the two week train and board a new dog! His jumping, nipping and overall stubborn attitude have changed dramatically and we are now able to cook, eat and watch tv without worry or bother. The biggest change is our daily walks. Mochi now stops and sits at all intersections and enjoys walking with me instead of dragging me everywhere and chasing everything that moves. I am grateful for this training which really has helped improve our relationship with our dog. Thanks!

All the commands our GS was taught was unbelievable. From sit, down, come, place, heel, stay, touch, break, break then sit, break then down, thru, long distance stay then break, walking off leash, Heel to sit on left side, and watch. Our dog is amazing. But sooo much more amazing because of this Off leash Training class. Yes Going into this class our dog knew more than half these commands already but honestly NOT LIKE HE DOES NOW. ITS CRAZY. Taking this class was the best thing. He is like a completely different dog. THANKS SOOOO MUCH Roger White you are truly the best and it shows each class and dog means alot to u. He is very patient and takes his time teaching on their level. Every week we came to class he made us feel welcome and happy to see us. Keep up the good work!!!! Hands down BEST dog trainer in the area and we even drove one hour and 15 minutes each week to get the BEST!!!

Review: Tim Bruno, Pack Boss LLC Tim was my dog sitter and trainer for several years. If I could have brought him to Colorado with me, I would have! The dogs enjoyed him – good runs/walks, other dogs and people to play with (and Tim made them all mind their manners). He’s reliable and sends quick updates while one is gone. Tim helped me work through some behavioral issues with one of my dogs who started biting people, and even wrote an affidavit for the court appearance. Tim is also a veteran – you’ve trusted him with your life and freedom, now trust him with your pets.

So glad to have found Tim to work with my 2 dogs. It is wonderful being able to have house visits for my senior “pup” who does not kennel well. Tim has also helped me and my boxer to leash train which I wasn’t too confident about achieving- Tim made it happen in one session. My dogs love him and that makes it all worth it!

Ami is an excellent trainer! We started working with her when our puppy was 3 months old. After we filled out Ami's questionnaire, she came up with a training plan. She immediately stressed the importance of socialization at this age and got our puppy started with basic commands (I didn't even realize you could teach commands to puppies that young!). But most importantly, Ami got us off to a great start and she set us up for success. She is outgoing and personable and can teach both dog and owner. Training sessions were always fun. I know she will always be a great resource for us. And I know we'll reap the benefits of a well behaved, happy dog for many years to come! Our puppy loves Ami and so do we! So glad we found her!

I was referred to Sky Dogs when I adopted a deaf dog from Spreak! for the Unspoken. Allison Holloway teaches a special needs class for deaf, blind, and deaf-blind dogs and puppies. Once we got the basics down, we found the training staff was open to us joining in other classes. Nosework, treibball, flyball, agility, and many other courses are open to all dogs. If you need help improving your dog's social skills, there are behavioral classes as well. The cost is very reasonable. The center is located at Central Point in Columbus and there is plenty of well lit parking. Besides the affordable prices and friendly atmosphere, Sky Dogs fosters a sense of community among participants and provides opportunities for people (and their dogs) to volunteer to help out in rescue efforts.

A talented dog trainer who knows how to work with my dogs and with me! Often my dogs are responding to something I'm doing (wrong) and I don't realize it. Lauren is able to see how my actions and emotions play into my dog's behavior. Her experience with rescue groups also provides background knowledge on animals and how they interact with other dogs and with people that just can't be taught. She's put in years of time with dogs and people and you can tell. I highly recommend her as a trainer!!

About

I have had many years of experience with animals. I have a unique way with bonding with and training dogs. I use commands and signals that are very easy to use and remember. I also use a reward system every time an animal does the command I asked. I will reward them with a treat. If they don't do the command I ask them to do, I repeat over and over again until they get it. Remember, things just don't happen overnight; it takes time and patience. I treat dogs a lot like children. My two dogs are a lot like my two-year-old daughter to me. If you are interested, you can contact me. Please tell your name and a brief message, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I do charge $10 an hour, and there is a contract we will have to go over and sign. I only work an animal 3 to 4 days a week for about 3 hours a day. The contract will also have information I need to know to know about the animal attached to it. Thanks a lot.
