Hire them for your painting needs. They fixed all the walls that had numerous nail holes, skim coated a large area of damaged drywall, fixed three seams that popped loose, and completely finished two eyebrow windows that had never been finished. They were clean, respectful, and quickly fixed what wasn't perfect (due to the thick skim coat repair work). I would definitely hire them again!

I had an excellent experience! I hired William to re-caulk my bathroom and shower after a local “handyman” did an awful job. As a perfectionist myself I appreciated that William was the same. He arrived timely, was very friendly and professional, and, most importantly, he did quality work. He also took the time to explain to me what he did. I am looking forward to hiring William again in the future.

Danny & Gene hung and finished 70+ pieces of drywall for our renovation project. They were prompt, courteous and did nice work. Plus, there were no surprises or add-ons to the quoted amount. I paid exactly what was quoted at the start of the project.

Ken was wonderful in his skills for furniture assembly. He saved me a bunch of headache by putting together 1 large TV stand that holds up to a 70 inch flat screen TV. He also quickly assembled 4 kitchen chairs that are really nice oak heavy wood. I sincerely appreciate his work ethic and techniques in assembling these furniture. He is also polite and respectful as well as responsive to additional requests. Highly recommend him and would hire him again to help out!

Russ finished drywall on 1/2 of my garage and also painted the whole thing. He was excellent from start to finish, came out same day to quote me and his price was very reasonable considering how much work he did. He showed up on time each morning and was very considerate, cleaning up after himself so as not to leave a mess before leaving at night. He is very meticulous about his work and our garage looks great. I would highly recommend him for any home improvement project.

Josh did an excellent job of caulking and painting trim and baseboard throughout my house. He also patched some drywall and painted a room. Josh was even flexible enough to add in painting some doors that weren't included in the original work detail. Would definitely hire again!

Alan was the only person who responded to my drywall request and I’m so glad. I gave him my availability and he came over an hour to my house to give me an estimate. He went above and beyond my drywall needs and fixed one of my cabinet doors as well. He was very patient, professional and left my room looking exactly, if not better that how he found it. Going forward I will call him first before searching for another handy man. I highly recommend Alan.

After a few quotes we decided to go with KNOC Construction. We are glad we did! First off, KNOC Construction was $400 cheaper than all of the other quotes. Noah and his crew, were here bright and early every morning, and were ready to work. They were friendly and professional. KNOC Construction went the extra mile and kept a clean work area. They cleaned up all of the drywall dust everyday because we have a baby in the house. KNOC Construction completed our entire basement in a timely manner. Also, during the renovation we had a pipe bust and begin spraying water everywhere. Noah, without hesitation, took time out of his schedule and fixed it within the hour. If you are looking for a company that will do your job fast, cheap, and accurate choose KNOC Construction. We love our new basement!

I hired Walkers Quality Drywall to finish a 1200 square foot basement in Dublin, OH. The price was very reasonable and the work was top notch. Shane and his crew worked hard and fast from start to finish to meet our deadline. Hanging, finishing sanding and stomping the ceiling only took them about 8 days. I would highly recommend this company for all your drywall needs. They are true professional.

We had a flood in our basement and had to replace the entire living area. We had Mark install new drywall ceiling and walls, update the electric, new entrance to bathroom and total refinish of that room, new carpet installed and vintage fireplace mantel installed over existing fireplace. Very happy with results and completed in about 3 and half weeks. It is total makeover, and we will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.

Total bathroom remodel on my 1920s home. Completely new design, new fixtures, porcelain tile floor, drywall, baseboard, paint, etc. He enlarged our bathroom drastically by taking 2/3 of a walk-in closet and installed a beautiful tile shower. BEST PART: our gorgeous custom handcrafted live-edge wood vanity!!! Joel has an art degree and it SHOWS!! We're getting so many compliments. Also the tile floor is PERFECT and he worked with us to source quality materials that fit our budget. He's also better at communicating with us than other contractors we've known. He really cares about his work and was realistic about estimates and time frames (the job took longer than we expected but he was upfront every step of the way). If you're tired of "big-box" decor and want something unique, we definitely recommend Joel for design, remodeling, and custom work!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
