I just rounded out my one-year of training with Mat. At the time, I had just recently turned 30- and had never stepped foot in a gym in my life. I was by no means a severe case, but initially I did not have full faith that I was going to see my training all the way through with Mat. I had a few instances of trying to dip my toes in the water with getting in shape, and each time I was extremely put off by the attitude of people "instructing" me, or this weird sort of impatience I would encounter when trying to understand what I was doing and why I was doing it. My goal, first and foremost, was to learn my way around a gym- the general routine, what certain workouts do, why you do them, etc. I wanted to achieve having a more active lifestyle and feeling like I was doing something that was self-preserving. My goal was not weight loss, but merely shifting some of my fat to muscle, and creating a good building block for me to continue on my own. I did not expect to continue my training with Mat as long as I have, and as of recently there are hardly any days that I don't look forward to my training. I am by no means the perfect client, and have definitely had lapses in my diet, or not been perfect with my work outside of the gym. But that all being said, Mat creates an air of accountability that doesn't feel overbearing or condescending- he meets you in the middle and gives you guidance on how to balance out when you're not at your best. There is a lot about Mat's work ethic and attitude that I think his clients find very endearing. He's just a normal dude, father, husband, that works hard to help other people be successful. He is someone that truly wants you to succeed, and it really feels great knowing that when he is giving you praise, or acknowledging your success- he means it. The structure in which he trains feels very easy to grasp even for someone with no knowledge, the first few months we spent learning the basics, and you test through a few phases of milestones that determine when you're ready for more complex, compound exercises. He does a very great job at explaining what specific workouts are doing for which muscle groups, and how those sets work into others, etc. There is never a point where I feel like I don't understand the significance of a certain set and what it is helping me achieve. We are now at a point in this journey where I am starting to see some realllllllly crazy definition in my legs and arms. I've been regularly hitting PR's for the past month it seems, and every piece of the puzzle up until this point is starting to show the full picture. I deliberately waited a long while to write this review, because I wanted anyone reading this to know that it is not based on just a small glimpse, or fleeting little dabble into fitness before quitting it and moving on to some other fad or hobby. This past year of training with Mat has really solidified my drive to want to continue doing better for myself. I have never been one to have a negative self-image, but the feeling of pride I have for the progress I have made has further boosted my confidence and vigor in tackling my day-to-day life. Lastly I would like to speak on the environment that Mat nurtures in the gym. There are a good chunk of clients that Mat works with, and over the past year- I feel as if I've become very comfortable with all of them. There is a very supportive environment of people that I've found are probably about 60% of the reason I enjoy this space. Not only are these people relaxed, and encouraging in each others success- they are also diverse and from all different types of backgrounds. Some days in the gym feel like a TV episode, and some of the people here are genuinely hilarious. I think that is a testament to the crux of this whole place, which is Mat. To summarize this review... Mat is a chill, knowledgeable guy, who genuinely is prepared to help you succeed in whatever you are trying to achieve. Give him at least a few months of your time, and be true to the goal that you set out for- you will get the results you're seeking.

As a former CrossFit student and coach, I drive over an hour to meet with Matt because I get a better workout with him than anywhere else. Matt is everything you want in a trainer. He is hard-working, upbeat, and thorough. He came to our first meeting prepared to take “before” pictures and plot a course to getting results. He then went above and beyond the gym, bombarding me with the nutrition information that he views as part and parcel of the workout routine. If you don’t know what that means, he will teach you. I can’t say enough good things about him - right down to his beautiful family. He is the real deal. You will be happy you found him.

I am a lady in my fifties, I had never worked out at a gym before. My husband needed help too, he is diabetic and working out with Mat has brought his glucose levels down without needing insulin. Mat is wonderful, explains everything and truly cares about every one of his clients. He walks you through changing the way you eat, and things to do at the gym and at home. He has a nice variety of things to do in the workouts so they are never boring. The atmosphere in the gym is laid back and friendly, never judgmental. Note that he is flexible on days and times, but doesn’t do early mornings which works perfectly for us. My husband and I have lost weight and are so much stronger now, we feel great! I feel so lucky that we found Mat, he’s amazing and we wouldn’t go to anyone else. 10/10 can’t recommend him enough!

I have been working with matt for 5 and a half months now. It has been a game changer but a challenge as well. Getting my body to eat healthier was the hardest part for me and the whole time matt has help me though it and not let me give up. Working with matt has been really great. I was never able to do it on my own. I struggled trying to keep working out and doing it on my own but I knew getting someone to push me like matt does is  Exactly what I needed. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I am today. I have lost 40 pounds so far and I can't wait until the end of my journey.
