They were very professional, prompt, wrapped all of my furniture and took great care with all of my stuff. They charge a flat rate, so no surprise expenses, and they didn't try to hurry my move. I am moving again soon and will use them again.

I would HIGHLY recommend this company! They are just wonderful! They gave us a great deal on some junk furniture removal! We called them after receiving their quote, and they were actually able to get here within less than an hour of calling them! And when they got here, they removed our old couches and hauled them away in literally 10 minutes flat if that! My mom and I were so very happy to see the couches be driven away...and Andy is absolutely WONDERFULl! Very professional and yet very down-to-earth! They are very friendly and very dependable. I wouldn't hesitate for a SECOND to use their services again. Great company, great people, and great VALUE! We are EXTREMELY pleased with the job they did! Very IMPRESSED! Keep up the good work! ☺️

I was moving just one of my bedrooms in my condo, which was my mother's bedroom and the movers from Incredible Hulk Movers assisted with moving her furniture to her new assisted living apartment. I originally didn't plan on using a moving company but when I decided to, I called multiple moving companies - the more well known ones - and with only 2 days notice, they were all booked up. My friend told me about Thumbtack so I thought this was my only last hope to post my job. This was my first job I posted so my first experience with this website. This moving company who I had never heard of was the best moving company I've ever worked with & I've worked with/witnessed approx. 8 moving companies. This moving company should be one of the more well-known moving companies. The best I've ever worked with/experienced. These movers were total gentlemen. My big lab got in their way at times & they weren't afraid of him & they just stopped what they were doing, even if they had heavy furniture in their hands, until my dog passed by out of their way. They were so professional & didn't complain one bit about the long walk from the U-Haul to the apartment; I know it was very long and I appreciate your hard work. You were so incredibly helpful during this difficult transition of my mom I've supported for a decade having to move move out of my condo to an assisted living facility. You made the move so smooth and I will definitely use you in the future for my moving needs and highly recommend you to anyone else!

I hired Grandview Moving & Hauling for a move on Feb 10th and I couldn't have been more impressed. Matt and his colleague arrived right on time at 9:30am and got to work within 10 seconds, which was a big deal considering they charge by the hour. Despite it being 20 degrees outside and moving heavy items up and down stairs for 3 hours, they both kept a positive attitude and never slowed down. Also all of the items moved were kept in great condition with no damages. I was extremely pleased with their work and will be using this company again for future moves.

I was very pleased with their work. Very professional guys. There was no damage to my walls or funitures while moving. It took them 10 hours to move an entire home to a home. I think it was a very reasonable time. I will definitely recommend them!

I've been working with First Responder for over a year and through a series of projects. I find them very easy to work with and accommodating of my many changes. Jason understands what I'm trying to accomplish in my yard and he has been very helpful in moving me forward. We have a long way to go but, I am relying on them to help me get there. I also find it very easy to refer them to others because they are courteous, responsive, professional, and flexible.

As a seasoned mover, I have seen the worst of moving companies. Then I hired Pick Up Movers which completely changed my mind. I got a hint of their efficiency when I called them first. Their customer service was very helpful and prompt. Their quote was as good as any other moving company. The best part of their service was the movers. They were so punctual and efficient. The movers were so fast at the packing and loading process. The delivery was made on time and everything was in perfect condition. I am just so happy with their services.

EXCELLENT JOB!! First time using a moving company to move, was a little nervous and didn't know what to expect. The salesgirl, Courtney was extremely helpful and easy to work with, and definitely knew what she was talking about, answered all of our questions and put us at ease. The moving crew was very professional and never stopped working. They made sure all of our items were transported safely from our old home to our new home. They also put down protection for our walls and flooring, I couldn't believe it!!! Andrews definitely made a stressful day way easier!!! I will be calling them for sure next time I move!!

Terrell, along with Jeffrey and Henry, were kind, professional, and thoughtful. The person we moved is elderly. Their patience and understanding of the situation made this a smooth, calm process. Terrell and I were in constant contact to coordinate this move - very prompt, professional communication via Thumbtack. Thanks, gentlemen, for coming on a holiday weekend. I definitely recommend Terrell's company to all in need of moving!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
