What tools do you need to repair drywall?

To repair drywall, you need up to several tools and materials. For example, you may need a drill to insert drywall screws and boreholes. A drywall saw or utility knife is perfect for cutting and shaping drywall, and don’t forget your tape measure and pencil. Drywall and taping knives are also essential.

For materials, you’ll likely need construction adhesive, drywall tape, drywall screws, masking tape and joint compound.

If you don’t have these tools — and you don’t want to spend money on them — contact a drywall repair professional instead of doing it yourself.

Who do I hire to install or repair drywall?

A general contractor, handyman or a drywall contractor (or company) can usually install and repair drywall. It’s recommended that you call one of these types of pros when your drywall needs to be repaired, such as after a plumber or electrician has completed their work.

Look up local pros online and compare their profiles, paying extra attention to their ratings, reviews, experience and list of services. Contact three to five pros to get cost estimates for your project.

Do drywall contractors need a license?

Pros may need to obtain a license to fix and install drywall. It’s always worth checking with your local government about whether a drywall company or contractor has to be licensed before they work on your project.

Do drywall contractors do insulation?

A drywall contractor focuses on drywall. If you want to install insulation (or upgrade your existing installation), you should hire an insulation contractor. It's possible that your drywall contractor may be able to offer basic insulation services, but for more advanced insulation installation (such as spray foam), go with a professional who specializes in this.

Reviews for Mason drywall repairers
Srinivas P.
I had to hire these guys for my ceiling drywall repair and re-texturing. I have had a bad experience dealing with them. For the estimate, one of their team members came and provided a ball park number. Based on his inputs Barry talked to me the same evening and told me lot of sweet words(I treat this like my home, take care of these in a timely manner and make it to look like other room or will re-do any number of times if that doesn’t come same quality), I was convinced and asked them to start the project. He showed up next morning and says his buddy didn’t see the project clearly and said it would need more material and costs more. Because I turned down other offers, I had to go with this even though they are almost charging 70% more than what initially estimated. When the job started, the first guy estimate was accurate and he never used the material as per the upped amount. He looks good with drywall services but when it comes to texturing his skills are below par. He just wanted to get it done quick without worrying about the outcome and when I don’t agree with the outcome he was ready to re-do the job but again in a hurry manner. Between these re-do’s I had to call him Many times to get the job done and it was really poor response from him. After 3rd attempt he gave up and said he can do only this level and asked to me hire other pros if this is not matching my expectations... his work didn’t even close to what he is promised or should have delivered. At the end he supposed to paint my ceiling, his work was included the painting too, that was provided on the paper, he said it was mistakenly wrote on the paper and asked for more money to get it painted, I literally wanted this guys to complete the job so paid more money again. Once the paint is done, he didn’t show up to move my stuff even though he promised to return to do the cleanup and do other items Some poor work include 1. They don’t prep occupied homes before dry wall, I kept on reminding them to use shoe covers 2. Not proficient in wall texturing 3. Total miscommunication, simply changes words every day. 4. Asks for more money than what he committed. 5. Better get it done from a professional company for a price of mind and good work. I do not recommend business with him.
