If there were 10 stars, I would give them 20! I have never met a contractor so kind, professional, accommodating, talented, meticulous and conscientious about their work. This is an amazing family business. Customer care and service is their number one concern and what they do best, along with outstanding work. They do ANYTHING they can to please their client. I had a bathroom painted including walls, door, trim and vanity...with special effects. The job was done within two days, and I actually paid more than they quoted because it would have been insulting to PJ for everything he did, if I had only covered the quote. I am absolutely having them back to do the entire interior of our home including windows. If you need a reliable amazing contractor, I highly recommend D3 Services--their work ethic and talent far exceed expectations.

This was a big project. We live in a ranch house with cathedral ceilings in living room. We contracted for painting of: Ceilings in LR, DR, kitchen, hallway to guest room, hallway going downstairs. Walls painted were LR, both hallways and kitchen. Not the DR because wallpapered. Wallpaper in kitchen below the chair rail was removed too and a border in the LR. Also, 11 doors were painted, the side shown, not inside. He also patched a hole in the front steel door and painted that and the wood around the garage and front threshold at No Charge. However, the wood trim will most likely need to be redone next Summer properly; sanding first then painted, but for the quick coverup was good. He buys his paint from Sherwin Williams at contractor pricing at $40 a can and we had to pay $494 in materials. I asked for all left over paint and a drop cloth that we paid for. I also asked for the receipts too. They started on a Tuesday and concluded by Thursday afternoon which pleasantly surprised us. Our last professional job was done in a week but they were much slower. In our last professional paint job, we bought Behr paint at Home Depot, 5 gallons of the same color. No ceilings were done then. I think that paint bought 12 years ago was $89? Mike likes Sherwin Williams and I'm glad they are a Cleveland company, but we'll see how it stands up in the next 10 years. We are a Behr paint family. The finish of the paint is supposed to be washable but it feels more flat but it isn't. We have two messy English Springers too. Always wear and tear in the home. We did have a choice to use Behr as well but went with his professional recommendation. The paint job was excellent and the reason I gave a 4 star versus 5 was because from the clean up sanding dust from patching nail holes and other larger holes. I had to clean all the chair rails and baseboards and little flicks of paint all over the wood floors and other floors. Just flicked them off with my nail. I just had carpets cleaned before they came and his helpers would walk over the hallway carpet without a runner on the carpet. I was freaking out a little and had to ask them to put down a drop cloth. They moved a curio cabinet, again not Mike, but his helper, and it got gouged on the bottom. I will do the touch up myself with stain. The paint on the ceilings, the walls and the doors were excellent. Mike caulked the window he painted too. So overall, it would be 4-1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if that was an available choice. I would hire again.

James and his son went above and beyond my expectations! They were very professional. They were on time for both the quote and doing the work. They made sure everything was done well. They completed a whole list of things for me including installing garage door trim, a closet organizer, basement ceiling tiles, and closet hardware. They hung a mirror, towel bar, and curtain rod, fixed a broken toilet, and a few more items. Very satisfied!

Matt and the team at CLE door came and did my garage doors today. My overall experience was fantastic. There were three facets I look for when it comes to a reputable company. First, are they knowledgeable...without question these guys know it all when it comes to garage doors. Second, how is the customer service...I think this was the best part of the experience because they were very personable and really care about the appearance of your house. They really value adding to the curb appeal of your house. Finally, are they effective and efficient...answer is simply yes they got there at 2 took down the old doors promptly and got the new doors up with openers by 5 then the cleaned up thoroughly. This company is flat out the best you will deal with for garage doors. I will recommend them to anyone.

Jim Varney came to our home today to replace two panels on our garage doors. He did a great job with his helper Steve. The two of them finished the job in about 1/1/2 hours. During the process of replacing the panels, Jim noticed that the opener track on the two car side wasn't straight. He found that the springs were uneven and different sizes, he adjusted them. Then he checked the inner workings of the motor since it seemed loud to him. Jim found that the transformer was loose, and cautioned that it could have started a fire if it overheated. So, he secured the transformer to the body of the motor to prevent this from ever happening. In addition, there was a trim panel that was replaced and painted. Jim's experience is worth hiring. Many of the other garage door companies out there tried to sell me new doors (metal) for both of the wood garage doors requiring repair or wanted to charge just to come out and provide an estimate. Jim came to the house, provided a free estimate, and found the matching panels, painted and installed them, saving us a couple thousand dollars. I would definitely recommend Jim and his company for any repair or replacement of garage doors and I would not hesitate to use him again.

Would definitely recommend to everyone needing garage door service. Reached out at 920 am on a Saturday, and the tech at my house at 1005am. Not only did the tech not mind if I stuck around and observed, but he answered any and all questions I had. The whole thing took about 40 minutes to complete and the total price was more than fair. Thanks guys!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

  • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
  • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
  • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
  • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
    • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
