Lisa is very friendly and helped train my puppy to house break when he was 12 weeks old. He started laying down and making it hard while taking for a walk when he was about 4 months old. With just one session with Lisa she helped us to stop him from doing that and now our puppy 'Happy' is a very good obedient boy. My wife and I are very happy with Lisa's training and would recommend her to anyone especially first time dog owners.

I decided to use a pet sitter for the first time on my recent business trip. Previously using various kennels and finding friends to take care of my dogs. I am very happy with Furball Fitness! I got updates on every visit and a picture of them. The dogs were happy when we returned and not stressed like in previous situations. I will definitely use them again and I highly recommend it.

Allison took wonderful care of our two cats while we were gone during Christmas break. She sent us daily updates with photos which put us at ease and always made us feel that our cats are well cared for and happy. She is very considerate and easy to work with and we are definitely going to use her services in the future! I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone in need of a pet sitter, she loves animals and she seems to thoroughly enjoy taking care of them.

Review: Tim Bruno, Pack Boss LLC Tim was my dog sitter and trainer for several years. If I could have brought him to Colorado with me, I would have! The dogs enjoyed him – good runs/walks, other dogs and people to play with (and Tim made them all mind their manners). He’s reliable and sends quick updates while one is gone. Tim helped me work through some behavioral issues with one of my dogs who started biting people, and even wrote an affidavit for the court appearance. Tim is also a veteran – you’ve trusted him with your life and freedom, now trust him with your pets.

Brenda is great! She has watched my 3 pets multiple times now, even doing overnight stays to care for my puppy (who likes to bark). She actually spends quality time with your pets unlike other sitters I've tried in the past. Thank you Brenda for your help, the pups and Emma will miss you when we move!

Denise was amazing! She stayed in our home caring for our 2 dogs and 1 cat for 4 days. The animals absolutely love her! She has a kind gentle spirit which really calmed our normally hyper pups. We came home to well cared for pets & an immaculate home. We have already asked her to sit for us next month. Denise is the best!!

Carol was our best dog and house sitter by far. I will ALWAYS ask Carol to help us out with future vacation coverage. She stayed at our house at night to keep our 3 crazy dogs company. Carol made chicken stock, chicken, carrots and peas to mix with their dry food. She played with them on a daily basis and Carol even bought them toys. Our dogs are not small. Two are 90 lbs. and 1 is 80 lbs. Our 80 lb. male Boxer can be aggressive toward the other dogs at times. I believe Carol said there was one incident. We love our dogs and of course treat them like our children. Carol continued to treat them as children and made them happy. Carol has dogs of her own that she babies too. She checked the mail, watered the plants and kept the house very clean when the dogs would track in dirt and mud. Carol was at our home for the entire month of February and the dogs miss her very much. Carol IS THE BEST!!!! We love you Carol, Lynn, Zoe, Nana and Buddy xoxoxo

We were constantly in contact, and she sent me pictures and videos of my cat to show me how she was doing. My cat loves her now. She was also so very nice to water my plants. I highly recommend her as a cat sitter.

I had to go out of town suddenly a few weeks back. I had to quickly find a place for my dog to stay. I stumbled on Columbus Assistants and boy am I glad I did. You can imagine my situation, I was in a hurry to get out of town with no place to board my dog who I considered part of my family. I didn't just want to leave my dog with just anyone. I got ahold of Susie at Columbus Assistants and instantly felt better. She explained her buisness in detail and what she stands for. Asked a lot of questions about my dog and his needs. When I explained to Susie that I had to leave town that night, she suggested to come by my place before I leave to get to know my dog and I. When I got home I could tell a diffence in my dog's (Ozzie) behavior then if I would have boarded him at one of those chains. He was relaxed, not tired and very peppy. Susie called to follow up with me about her experience with Ozzie while she was taking care of him. I will never board Ozzie at one of those boarding places again. Susie at Columbus Assistants was very professional and trust worthy. I could tell she really got attached to my dog. I would advice everyone to give Columbus Assistants a try. I am so glad I did.

Natalie took care of my two dogs while I was out of town a whole week for my wedding. I was very nervous to leave them, especially one of my dogs with kidney disease. Natalie was excellent, administering all medications and subq fluids as needed. She also helped administer subs fluids on my mom's dog that was in the care of another pet sitter. I even came home to an immaculate house. I would highly recommend her for anyone needing a pet sitter, and hope to use her again in the future. Thanks Natalie!

rose has been dog sitting for me for a few years . She is very caring & gentle with all her pets and mine. She keeps my dog at her house and comes to my house to care for my cat . Rose is very attentive to my dog as she needs insulin shots twice daily and makes sure her diet is good. In fact she has even taken my dog to the vet when I have been traveling. She really cares about animals. and i would recommend her for any pets you may need help with. And her prices are very reasonable. jane

We are currently using Pawsitively Pampered Pets for daycare for our 8 month old pitbull, Atlas. Since Atlas is still a puppy, he needs to be entertained during the day so he will actually sleep at night. We were also looking to have him interact with other dogs during the day. Pawsitively Pampered Pets is just perfect for what he need. Initially, Amber invited us over to meet her, her husband, and her son prior to signing up for daycare. We also met the 3 resident dogs of the household and Atlas got to sniff around the house. When we dropped Atlas off the first time, he whined at the door and was so excited to go in. When we picked him up his tail was wagging and he seemed as happy as could be. Thanks Pawsitively Pampered Pets!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
