Great Service, owner Tom listened to what I wanted worked within my budget and had an affordable solution for my landscaping design. Prompt service, job completed the day after I hired them, would recommend them to anyone looking for professional company, respectful employees and most importantly affordable landscaping needs. Big or small jobs, they are equipped to handle both with ease. Left work site clean, something that you do not always get with contractors! Hire them again in a heartbeat!

Gavin is a man of his word, and respectful of your word. Rather than take for granted it's ok to do something he checks first until he gets to know what is acceptable to you however he has his own standards which he will not go below. I am particular about my yard and would rather do it myself than have someone who doesn't take pride in their work. I highly recommend Blair's Landscaping. TJakacki

Top Choice Home Improvement was the best choice for me. The contractors were polite, professional, and productive. Our bathroom was gutted and finished within five days. The results are breathtaking. There was some damage done to an existing part of our wall and Rob came back right away and fixed the mistake. I am very happy with the results and will be calling when we are ready for our next project.

We contacted Fusion for hardwood floor refinishing. Rogers has been great to work with. He did a very nice job on the floor. He is very professional, offers excellent customer service and does what he says he will do on schedule. We will use Fusion again for other types of jobs in the future. It is very refreshing to work with a contractor is so prompt and trustworthy!

Thank you Bill for the lovely job you did repairing the stone front on my home. Wow, it's over and beyond what I expected, I never knew you could tint the concrete to match like that. It looks better than new. How you ever repaired the sills on my windows to look original like that I'll never know. It truly looks like a new home. One contractor told me it couldn't be done, the rest wanted 4x as much. My prayers have been answered, thank you All Pointe.

Rob Craite has been my property manager and handy man for my rental property in Detroit for several years. He's dependable and honest. He'll come out at odd times for emergencies and really takes care of the tenant. I'm an out of state property owner, so having someone who is honest and dependable is a must. I highly recommend him.

Steven and Jay were fair, gave me a good deal, moved my furniture carefully, were very efficient, and were pleasant to work with. The only issue that came up is that they arrived quite late. To me, their price was worth the wait.

Corry Contracting did an excellent job on the work in our home and we could not be happier to find a trustworthy contractor with great work ethic and outstanding craftsmanship! Daryl and the other man who came to work on our home were very polite, efficient and incredibly clean! The house was left spotless everyday! Not to mention they were incredibly tolerant and friendly with our pets (we have 3 dogs!) Our initial quote was very fair and Daryl went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy with the work that they were doing as it went along. We had an existing kitchen window replaced with a newer larger one. They did an excellent job and even customized the trim the way that we wanted it. Great carpentry! Daryl also built a custom wooden egress on the exterior entrance to the crawl space of our home, complete with a cover and latch that can be locked. It looks wonderful and is exactly what we needed. Corry Contracting also completed interior drywall work including closing an entrance to our kitchen for a new layout for our future remodel. It looks great and you would never know that an entrance had been there! We could not be happier with the completed work and look forward to using them for our future projects!!! Thanks for the great work guys and we'll be calling you again soon!!!

We had Richard of Horn Construction come over for an estimate. Our job was to mud/tape/prime and paint drywall that we had installed in our garage. Not only was he prompt, but his estimate was very fair. We were impressed that he started the very next Monday on our job. Richard and his team are real pro's. He was able to completely hide our seams and finished the drywall like we never would have been able to. If you're looking for a contractor that has a fine attention to detail, I would not hesitate to recommend Horn Construction.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
