We had a "smallish" job that needed to be done after a severe storm hit our town. Austin came from about 60 miles away to do it. We were impressed that he would come so far while other tree specialists in the area were swamped and unwilling to even come look at what needed to be done. Austin was courteous and cleaned up after himself when the work was done. We are pleased with his work.

These guys went above and beyond to make our lawn ready for the summer. We appreciate them fixing the holes in the fence so our tiny chihuahua could go outside. The flower beds, bushes and tree look great. Thank you for all your hard work! We look forward to using your services all season.

These guys did an outstanding job trimming a large branch off our cottonwood tree that extended over our neighbors roof. We were so concerned about doing any damage to their roof but Abraham and Jose got it all taken care of in such a professional and timely manner. Couldnt have asked for better guys! Will hire them again for any other work we need.

Best repairman ever! Completed 5 projects in almost half the time originally estimated and was less than half the cost of other quotes from specialists, including Home Depot and Lowe's "recommended experts". He did drywall, plumbing, fixtures installation, and electrical work, and we are getting other projects ready for him ASAP. Can't say enough good things about him and his crew! And he also cleaned up any leftover debris after projects were completed!

I went out on a limb, no pun intended, when I used Thumbtack to search and review tree service companies in the OKC area. Gosiak Tree Service responded immediately to my request and set up a time to evaluate the requirements. I needed to have a twin trunk, 50 foot, ninety year old white oak tree removed, as well as, other tree trimming. I probably could have shopped around and saved a few dollars, but I was more interested in having it done right. GTS came out within a few hours on a Friday afternoon, the same day that I inquired. The GTS crew rolled up with the right equipment and enough manpower to do the job right. Not only was their equipment impressive, but the guys on the job knew what they were doing and worked well as a team. I was very impressed and would gladly give GTS the highest review score available. I will definitely use them again.

I had very overgrown flower bed and bushes in my front yard. I wanted everything dug out and replaced with soil, landscape barrier and mulch. A few deep rooted trees and bushes needed to be extracted, as well. I was very pleased with the work that was done. He was prompt with an estimate, a fair price, and was able to schedule and complete the job quickly. I will be hiring him again and highly recommend him.

I needed a complete makeover of my yard with removal of dead trees and shrubs in addition to normal maintenance of the lawn. Eco Lawns did an outstanding job by first assessing the area, providing an estimate then doing the work completely including immaculate clean up. I have complete satisfaction from this experience and Eco Lawns will be doing my spring lawn work as well. The job estimate was also accurate with no last minute "add ons". Excellent business!

Tree Solutions removed a huge oak tree in our backyard. They did an excellent job in taking down the tree, and grinding the stump. They also cleaned up all the mulch that was produced from the stump grinding. They were great to work with, and I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing this service.

Nicoli responded quickly and was very professional. I had a tree limb that was growing under around and over an electrical line. The Artistree crew showed precision and care with dealing with this precarious situation. Even went above and beyond cleaning up a few stray trees growing near the foundation. Fair price, would recommend them for your next project.

Quality Lawn & Tree is a wonderful landscaping business that's fair on price and works with your budget. Their staff is very friendly and knowledgable. My lawn and flower bed have never looked better. They don't just mow your yard, they care for it. I had patches of my yard that wouldn't grow grass no matter what I did, but Quality Lawn and Tree now has my yard green and weed free. They are a top notch landscape company and Adam is just a gem to work with. He gets to know his customers personally and if I ever have any questions or concerns I don't have to go through a call center to get through to someone. He's quick to respond and treats his customers like family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
