Phillip was hired for a complete home remodel, to include HVAC replacement, plumbing repairs, carpentry repairs, painting (interior and exterior), fixture replacement, etc. Phillip completed the job in the time required and was very attentive in completing all punch list items. Overall, the level of work was excellent. I would definitely hire Phillip for another project.

I posted separate ads for a person to paint my whole house and someone to replace all of the carpet in my house that I have been renting out for 5 years. Cory contacted me and said he could do both and had a lot of experience with general contracting. We set up a time to meet at the house and walked through. He pointed out a lot of other things I hadn't expected on doing, but obviously needed some attention. He was very easy to talk to, knew what he was talking about, and did a great job overall. His prices were also very reasonable. He even ended up doing some things that we hadn't discussed, but it needed done. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

Terry and his team did a great job for painting interior walls, ceilings, baseboards, and other wood works. He always responded to my request/questions in a timely manner, which was really important for me to plan other home improvement projects accordingly. I'd work with him again if I need other painting work in the future.

Sawyer Paint and Construction did a fabulous job painting the interior of our luxury home. They did all of the wood trim in white and walls and ceilings in greige. We had some issues with the paint we purchased showing multiple sheens in locations, but Matt and his team worked hard to quickly correct any issues we pointed out. They were fast and friendly.

We recently purchased an older home that needed some much needed cosmetic repairs (painting, texturing, new countertops in kitchen and bathrooms, new farmhouse sink and backsplash, and a custom built shed). Kaphar did a fantastic job in all aspects! All the work was done in the time frame that we were given, and the quality is top notch! We are very happy with everything Charles and Kaphar did for us and our new home!

Gina and 1 assistant painted my entire house in 6 days. This includes 7 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a mud room, laundry room, hallways and closet! We used 7 different colors for this job and Gina was a trooper! They did a fantastic job on prep and end job is wonderful. Improvement could be made with regard to clean-up but otherwise I am extremely satisfied. The very best part was the price! Gina and her crew were very affordable!! I would not have been able to afford such a large endeavor otherwise. I would readily recommend Gina for your interior painting job!

Guss was excellent to work with. We hired him for about two weeks to do a variety of jobs ranging from painting ceilings to tiling bathrooms to replacing a door in a house we purchased that needed a lot of work. He did very good work for a reasonable price, and was very responsive and responsible. Guss is also a very nice and respectful man who was a pleasure to work with and have around. I plan to use him again when we need work done.

Wanted my house redone the walls painted, and carpets cleaned, backsplash in my kitchen, and my kitchen floors. Painted my bathroom, cleaned out all old things and hauled away. I am 63 years old and just can’t do it. I hired them to basically overhaul the entire place. I love my house and the remodeling that was done and really just do not want to leave because I love it so much. The colors are neutral and it all looks great together.

I’ve worked with a few different painters and contractors and my experience with Five Star was by far the best. The quality of the work and the professionalism of this team are excellent. I will use Five Star for any painting needs in the future.

I hired C & J to paint the exterior of my mother's house. It had not been painted in a very long time and required quite a bit of prep work in addition to the actual painting. Creston was fantastic to work with. His communications with me were always prompt and clear. He was very easy to work with, even when I had to leave town unexpectedly as the project was starting. His price was fair and competitive with the other bids I received. Work started and finished on time and the work area was always thoroughly cleaned at the end of the day. I found him and his father, who also came most days, to be very friendly, polite and professional. They checked many times to make sure we were happy with how things were progressing. Most important, though, is that the house looks fantastic! They did an outstanding job from start to finish. My mother and I are both very pleased and highly recommend C & J Painting.

I had botched a DIY job and contacted Greg to come look at fixing my project. He was able to quickly identify the issue and advised that I could save a significant amount of money by re-trying the project with the correct products. He was willing to give a bid, but said he enjoys helping people and was available if my second attempt wasn’t successful. He was even willing to stop back by to show me how to apply the finish. I appreciate his honesty and integrity! Although I can’t speak to his skills as they relate to painting, I can certainly speak to his skills as they relate to service and I am more than impressed with those! This is the kind of person I want to work with and would recommend him without a doubt!

We had a kitchen update/remodel. We kept existing cabinets but had them painted. We also had new countertops, sink and backsplash installed. We deferred to Corey on the countertops & backsplash. He picked out something reasonably priced and that is in style. Corey kept us in the loop through the entire process. In the end, we have what feels like a NEW kitchen. Everything is as it should be, the timeline and price were totally reasonable! We are looking forward to having him come out to do our bathrooms next.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

      • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
      • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
      • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
      • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
