David did such a great work on repairing my door and installing a door closer. Also, made me save a lot of money to replace a window glass. We are planning more projects to do already.

Way better choice than dealing with overpriced window companies! We can't afford to replace the entire house of windows and doors, but a better option is to just get Arender Premier to install them as you can afford them. We had him order some special order windows for an older house and they look great. We also plan to keep using him for installing our new slider doors. Overall just great workmanship, responsive, and he shows up on time.

Steve Smith has been doing several different remodel jobs plus a new project as of now for about 3 years and has never missed a time he said he would be here to do his job. In regards to what he can do...that is anything and everything that we have come up with and for example creating a beautiful italian style bathroom in a log home. It is gorgeous. He has installed and trimmed our 2 new front doors which were done while making the single door into a double door opening. He then rocked around that door and framed it in.lt is far more beautiful than we could have imagined. He has updated the kitchen floor to ceiling and turned the kitchen and bathroom windows into very nice looking box windows. With his ideas and his hands he made a stunning 3 tier flowing waterfall surrounded by huge rocks and shrubs. He is in the process now of completing a 625 ft. deck over the garage. His quality of work is remarkable, his ideas and knowledge are amazing and his kindness is outstanding along with his values and honesty . He will absolutely be our man for many years to come. He will be continuing with other ideas as we decide we have found a man that could take care of those projects and us .We feel so blessed to have found such a strong and trusting man to help finish our dreams. Thank you Steve Smith C and C Greene

Mr. Miller replaced the broken window panes, repaired storm windows, and replaced rotten sills. He also replaced a door and repaired 3 other doors. He installed paneling inside and did several other odd jobs that needed done. He is excellent in his work. I will use him for many other projects. I highly recommend him.

Best bathroom remodel ever! Konstruct completely remodeled my bathroom with speciality hardware, fixtures, woodwork, heated floor, window installation and intricate, high-end tile work. I am completely satisfied with his work and his crew's professionalism around my family. Every night the area was clean and tidy. Fees always detailed, and fair! My fifth or so major project with Konstruct. I never worry about a project with Konstruct, they always perform as expected, and my family enjoys the results. Thanks, Konstruct!

Don has been our contractor for refurbishing a 4 unit apartment building. He was initially contracted to assist the owner (myself) with several upgrade projects required due to deferred maintenance by rental property managers. Don replaced 2) double patio doors & casements, 5) steelcase doors & casing (both interior & exterior), and 2) 2nd floor windows 9requiring exterior tall ladder work), in addition to multiple repair & maintenance tasks. The trust established in this initial work experience allowed me to contract Don for a rental unit "make-ready" including paint & tile flooring, and then a complete remodel of a 2nd unit, which included complete plumbing requirements, harwood floor installation, VCT Tile Installation, as well as new kitchen cabinetry & overall painting. Approximate 90% renovation of the unit with above average satisfactory results. Due to be a self-employed contractor, Don did put off some repairs to do other work. This is always upsetting to an owner with a "me first" attitude. Unfortunately for me the work that I re-assigned to my property manager was accomplished at both a higher cost, and less quality & less satisfaction than work accomplished by Don. Don is now my "go-to-guy" for all maintenance & make-ready requirements for my apt building. Highly recommended.

Very good quality of work on both drywall and tile installation the pricing was competitive and the quality was superior. Came back three days later to seal the grout, left after care instructions for my marble shower and did some grout repair on an existing floor and didn't charge me

Have done several small jobs with Gathright's. Mostly repairs rather than installs. Examples are replacing the T-111 sheeting on the back of my wellhouse/shed. Repair to a bathroom window that was becoming loose in my mobile home which required removing the window and replacing wood to re-install securely. Both of these jobs were completeled satisfactorily on the same day. He utilizes time well and is a good troubleshooter. He has a good knowledge of tools, repairs, and is easy to work with. I will rely on him for many home repairs, just this week, we had him out to repair the septic system lines and it is back to operating smoothly.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
