Shaun M. says, "It’s hard to quantify my appreciation to Tom and all of his superb work this summer, but I will try to articulate my gratitude here. Last summer we had an in ground pool built. Needless to say there were some hurdles that needed to be overcame once the builders had left our property. A 10’ privacy fence had to be put back, our neighbors gate had to be restored and a very large chunk of our backyard needed sod put in. So we hired a company to perform said actions. Fast forward to this spring. The fence was coming apart, the posts were never concreted (put the fence back does NOT include concrete, WHAT!?!) and our sprinkler system wouldn’t come on. So I called Tom. He said he can fix the fence, fix our neighbors fence (as he gave permission to take it down so that we could get the machines back there. Charles, you are the man, again thank you sir!) and we have yet to run water for our grass. He was slatted to be here just a couple of days - ended up being over a week that he had to FIND the lines, the sprinkler heads, the controllers, and even helped update the controller so that I can use my phone to control it. When the diggers came for the pool, they didn’t leave any connections or indication of what they destroyed. He had to bury a whole new control line to all of our heads, he had to find the broken pipe parts (yes, plural) and he reconfigured some of the heads as they no longer were relevant in some areas. As you know, most of Oklahoma has a lovely layer of clay. Yet, he masterfully accomplished the task at hand. There ended up being a rather severe storm the following week. Had it not been for his A+ craftsmanship we would have lost the whole side of the fence (lack of concrete was making the fence split before he even showed up). He re-secured our gate and even trimmed the bottom of it so that it swings so nicely now. He ensured that my neighbors gate had a perfect fit again. He secured our gate so that it didn’t swing back into the inside. He fixed a few of the boards that needed to be replaced. He was communicative, he was honest about the work he expected and how long it’ll take. There was a slight delay due to weather and he still showed up trying to wait out the rain. This past week he graced us again with his work and moved a fence from the back side yard to the front side yard to give us storage on the side. I believe our next task will be to get some french drains in the backyard to keep the backyard from flooding into the pool and some flower bed maintenance in the front yard. Tom, thank you so very much for all that you did for me and my family. We are very much enjoying our backyard again and the grass is SO green. If you are looking for an honest, hard working landscaper you no longer need to continue your search. You have found him. Should you be lucky enough that he takes on your task you won’t be disappointed. He is super flexible and a really down to earth gentleman. I look forward to working with you in the future!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a concrete patio cost?

On average, a concrete patio costs about $2,500-$7,000. The cost to install a concrete patio will vary depending on the size, the finish, whether you want it stamped and many other factors. That’s why you should always get a few cost estimates from professionals when planning this project.

How do you clean a concrete patio?

Use a hose and liquid dish soap to scrub and wash away dirt from your concrete patio. You can also use a pressure washer (just make sure you know how to use it). You can also hire a professional patio cleaner or pressure washing service to help you maintain your patio.

How do you fix cracks in a concrete patio?

To fix the crack and holes in your concrete patio, you can apply a concrete repair mix or concrete crack filler. However, for more severe cracks, consider hiring a concrete repair contractor. They have the skills and experience to fill your cracks and holes, ensuring your concrete patio will last as long as possible.

How do you paint a concrete patio?

To paint a concrete patio or porch, decide what type of paint you should use. For example, you might want to consider epoxy-based paint for stain resistance and durability. Then, you’ll need to clean and prep the area, fix any cracks and holes, apply a primer and apply two coats of paint.

To ensure the job is done correctly, hire a concrete painter near you.

How do you stain a concrete patio?

Hire a concrete staining contractor for this project. These professionals will clean your concrete patio, repair any cracks, and apply the stain and sealer for you.

How thick should a concrete patio be?

Generally, a concrete patio is 4-8 inches thick. Your concrete contractor or patio builder should be able to determine how thick your patio should be.

How much does it cost to build a deck?

What is the best sealer to use on concrete?

Because unsealed concrete is porous, it readily absorbs liquids, leading to unsightly stains and freeze-and-thaw cycle damage. For this reason, it’s important to seal concrete that will see spills or outdoor weather.

The best option for garage floors and other high-traffic areas is epoxy, which forms a hard and extremely durable surface on top of concrete. Epoxy, acrylic, and polishes are often used on indoor floors, while acrylic-resin sealers and reactive penetrating sealers are used on outdoor surfaces to repel water and salt. Locate a concrete contractor in your area to help find the best solution.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
