Terry H. says, "I’m just going to say it.  This guy is great!  Vasyl of Twin Pro Services, I mean.  Initially, I was looking to have an old worn out swinging single door gate replaced with a swinging double door gate, which allows entry to my backyard.  When I reviewed Vasyl’s profile, I took note that 96% of his reviews were 5 stars. The only less than favorable one involved a claim that he never followed up in providing them with a requested estimate - small potatoes.  So, given that his reviews regarding fence and gate repairs were glowing, I moved forward with him. And given that nearly everyone sang his praises, I even decided to pitch an additional job which would require him to pour new concrete to widen the preexisting concrete walkway from my front to backyard. This would also compensate for a wider opening of a soon to be installed double door gate. Vasyl accepted the challenge and gave quite the competitive quote. He showed up when he said he would, and got the job done in a timely manner.  He was very detail oriented and even took the time to restore a storm drain with grate that had been buried underneath the soil to incorporate it into the concrete.  He could’ve just poured the concrete over it and I might’ve been none the wiser, but he made me aware of the issue and how he rectified it after he completed the job. That’s called integrity! Now ordinarily, it’s good practice to provide notification prior to performing any additional work, but there was no upcharge other than the tip that I gave him for the added effort and I’m okay with that. He addressed all my concerns, including one that occurred after the new concrete cured. I noticed that the surface texture was a bit rough compared to the preexisting concrete walkway that it bordered. Given that I was looking for consistency, I notified Vasyl of the discrepancy and he came back out, later in the week, to grind the surface of the newly cured concrete into a smoother finish. And I must admit, it looks great. In fact, everything, from the double door fence gate installation to the concrete, looks amazing! A bonus for me was that every communication and transaction between Vasyl and I was via text or email, which added a certain level of convenience.  And I have no doubt that it would do the same for most with a busy schedule. Vasyl appears to be a jack of all trades and is very easy to work with. He's an excellent handyman, but I would also recommend him for your general contracting needs, specifically as it pertains to fencing and concrete.  Thanks, Vasyl!"See more

Missy A. says, "Mendoza Quality LLC did an incredible job of completely remodeling my home’s 3 showers, (1 with fairly significant draining issues and water damage to an adjacent wall’s Sheetrock and baseboards) and 2 of our bathroom’s cabinets and countertops. Edgar took time upfront to work with me, revise our contract, and made suggestions/changes to help me stay within my budget. This was my first time hiring a contractor and doing any home remodel project, and I couldn’t have gotten luckier finding Edgar and Mendoza Quality LLC! I was never rushed or pressured in my decision-making. I explained my overall vision for my home and Edgar was incredibly helpful in guiding me as to what project would be the smartest to tackle first. He also offered time and money saving suggestions, to keep within my budget, which I greatly appreciated! I felt at ease and comfortable with Mendoza’s entire crew and they were complete professionals and respected our home and our time. My children and I were often home when they were working, and Edgar and his team could not have been more kind and obliging of our space. They were efficient and cleaned up and organized their tools and materials at the end of every day! Everything was left neat and in order, every day. I can easily say this was the best first experience with hiring a contractor and I’m already planning a kitchen remodel with Mendoza’s Quality next! I can’t recommend Edgar Mendoza and his team enough! I’m a customer for life!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to fix a fence?

The average cost of fence repairs is around $250, with most homeowners paying anywhere between $200 and $300. Fence repairs have a wide range of potential costs, however, ranging from $50 to as much as $1,443. The cost of your fence repair project depends on multiple factors, including where you live, what type of repair you need, the terrain and the fence materials used.

Contact several fence repair professionals near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your fence.

Why does my gate sag?

A gate can sag for a number of reasons. One common reason is that the screws holding the hinges in the wood or other post material have come loose, causing gravity to pull the fence down. Another common problem is the gate post’s lack of stability. Posts can become loose and start to lean, or if they are wooden, they can even rot at the point where they meet the ground.

Should I repair or replace my fence?

Fence repair is better for common problems that only affect small areas, such as a broken picket or a shifting fence post. However, there is a rule of thumb to follow: If the repair project requires replacing 20% or more of your fence, it’s probably time to replace the whole fence. The exception to this rule is if the fence is fairly new and just part of it is damaged.

What are some common fence repairs?

The most common fence repairs are aimed at fixing:

  • Missing boards or slats. This is a common problem with wood fences.
  • Fence material corrosion. This occurs on metal fences like chain link and iron.
  • A sagging gate. This could result from a tilting fence post or loose hinges.
  • Post movement. Typically, this is caused by frost, corrosion or water.
  • Stains. Moisture and other elements can stain fencing, which may require a professional to remove it.
  • Warping. Warped, curled, cupped or bent boards are unsightly and less effective and need to be replaced.

If you notice any of the above issues with your fence, reach out to fence repair professionals near you to start getting cost estimates and schedule an appointment.

How much does it cost to fix a gate?

Gates can be more expensive to fix than other parts of a fence, and there are several reasons for this. The first is that gates are the only moving parts on a fence — hence they have more components that can wear out, as well as friction and the potential for rusting and sagging. Fixing a gate may require a total replacement or simply replacing certain components like hinges. Sometimes, the repair may involve fixing the surrounding fence.

Contact several gate repair professionals near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your gate.

What are some common gate repairs?

The most common gate repairs tend to be associated with a sagging gate. A gate repair professional will check the hinge system. If the hinges have come loose, they will detach the gate, set the hinges in the proper location and reattach everything.

Another common repair is replacing or repairing a sagging fence post by digging a new posthole and/or using a concrete footing.

How do you strengthen a fence gate?

If you think your gate needs reinforcement, hire a fence repair professional in your area. Squaring up a fence gate may require adding corner brackets, installing a cable and turnbuckle, and cinching and tightening the cable to the appropriate tension. All of these repairs, as well as digging a new post hole, require expertise and know-how.

What are the advantages of hiring a contractor to repair your fence?

There are several advantages to hiring a fencing contractor to repair your fence:

  • The repair will be done right, ensuring you won’t waste your time and money without the desired results.
  • Because of the tools and materials needed, it might be worth it to hire a pro instead.
  • A contractor can help you avoid problems down the line by fixing issues before they grow in severity.
