Hot Tub move - June 11, 2017
Do not hire this guy, he doesn't know anything about hot tubs other than yank them out and throw them on a trailer. A bull in a china closet that is only concerned with money and not customer's property in my opinion.
Tony destroyed the plumbing on the bottom of the tub so that even though it was used and the pumps / electric were not attached to the tub, it was no longer usable due to the connections that Tony broke during the move.
I have pictures of the tub before the move and it was about 1/2 full of water with no leaks and other pictures of the entire event.
The Full Story is below and I will apologize in advance for the long post but I wanted to let future prospective people know what they are getting into with Tony moving a hot tub.
The full story
I hired Tony to move a used Hot Tub, I am not hot tub expert so I figured as many Hot Tubs as he claimed to have moved Tony would have seen and moved used tubs before with the understanding that they would more fragile.
We set up a time to move on Monday,
Tony then started calling me on Sunday morning about moving it on Sunday since he was starting a new night job and really needed
the money.
I thought I would try and help him out since he was needing money.
He called me at 1048 and said he could head my way about 11 or so, I advised him there was still water in the tub and needed to know if he also drained the tubs.
He said I was responsible for draining, I got the tub drained about 12 noon and texted him
to let him know it was drained, I also sent him the measurement of the gate / opening.
After multiple back and forth calls /texts he finally showed up 5 hours later at 5pm.
He said that he couldn't move the tub since it was attached to a small deck that was attached to the house. We looked at it together and decided to cut the tub loose from the deck.
3 simple cuts. We also discovered the deck around the hot tub was too rotted and broken to move.
I told Tony let's remove the old hot tub deck and then move it since I was going to build a new deck.
During the process, after discovering that the pump / electrical appeared to be just sitting there on some boards, the tub did work and did not leak.
I kept asking, do you think it is worth moving the tub or just hauling it to the dump.
Tony kept saying it does need some work (making a better mount for the motors / filter /electric) but it was worth moving,
Tony also said that if I didn't want the tub, he would take as it was in better shape than his tub at home.
After the hot tub deck was removed Tony started immediately yanking on the tub trying to move it.
His partner, the one with the common sense told him as I did also that we needed to disconnect the plumbing to the motor and some electrical .
Tony wanted to cut the plumbing lines and said that I would just have to get a PVC coupler and glue them back.
I told him there were removable couplers (like under a sink) that could be unscrewed, I unscrewed all the connectors and we then disconnected the electrical.
Tony and his partner drug the hot tub out and across the yard.
They wrestled it through the gate by dragging it,
Tony said they were going to put it on a blanket or something and
drag it on that then use the cart to move it to the trailer. Tony never put anything under the tub, just drug it on the ground.
After they loaded it on the trailer, I asked if they were going to hall off the old deck and was told by his partner that he would remove it later on Sunday or Monday at the latest.
They never removed the old deck I had to do it.
Tony took the hot tub to my house and unloaded it, somewhere during the process he snapped off the 3 connection on the bottom of the tub.
Before he moved the tub there were not any leaks and tub was holding water for months.
They moved it to the back yard and then told me about the broken connections. Tony said they could be fixed, I looked at the ends but I didn't realize at the time these connections were very critical and could not be repaired.
The next day after discussion with my wife on whether to repair the tub we decided to let Tony have since he said would take it.
I texted Tony and told him that since he said he wanted the tub, if he would come pick it up he could have it.
Tony said, he didn't want it since the bottom connections were broken, I informed him that he broke the connections not me.
Tony said the hot tub was 'jerry rigged', I was aware the pumps /electrical / filter were not attached and needed work but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the plumbing.
I told him I have paid you 150 dollars and you broke the tub so now it is useless so would just haul it off to the dump..
Tony said.. I will haul it to the dump for another 70 dollars on top of the 150 I had already paid him.
I asked him to do the right thing and just take the tub to the dump since he ruined the plumbing on the tub.
Tony refused and wanted 70 dollars.
Bottom line, Tony is not a very trustworthy person to move your Hot Tub he is only concerned with money.
To haul the tub to dump would have only been 70 dollars but Tony insisted the tube was good and wanted to charge me 150 dollars and then broke the tub.
I have others look at the tub and have been told the Plumbing is not repairable. The tub is going to the dump.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, if Tony would have done the right thing and just hauled the broken tub to the dump I would have never posted this but Tony is not an honest person in my opinion.
