We stopped boarding our cat, Michaleen, when he started throwing hissy fits every time we tried. He is much better when we have someone come to the house. When we moved from Texas to Oregon, we needed to find a new pet sitter. Brittany came to our home to meet Michaleen (and us!) and he loves her! Rubbed against her, let her scratch his ears - I'm thrilled. Obviously, so is my cat.

Heather is professional, friendly and awesome! She goes out of her way to provide the best service and truly cares deeply about her clients. When I went out of the country twice in two months Heather came every other day to soend time with my anxious kitty and even sent me pictures and videos. It was so nice to unwind knowing my girl was happy and well taken care of. She even did some cleaning for me as well!!! Will never use another pet sitter!

Janna at Phoenix Pet care has been a great dog sitter for me in the past year. She was available when I needed her and provided reliable service. Her multiple options for visits/day or overnight stays made it easy to customize the service for what I needed.

Nicole is wonderful! She is extremely professional and organized. She showed up (on time) to meet our dog prior to our trip. Our dog who has anxiety took to her right away. Nicole was communicative, responsive and easy to work with. We received pictures, updates (even though we were out of cell range) and a lovely note upon return. She also filled out her own daily checklist letting us know how all of our animals did. Our house was clean and our animals were happy. I would hire Nicole again in a heartbeat. She went above and beyond and I appreciated not having to worry about the care my pets were receiving.

Laura took great care of our cat while we were away from home multiple times in 2015. She has been a reliable pet sitter for us and we highly recommend her to others. I especially like her insistence that we call her no matter how late when we get home so she knows to stop visiting our pet.

Sit & Stay was my go to pet sitting service for many years until I moved out of state. My kitties always had the best care from Colleen and Carol, I could travel without worring about them. I wish I had a service as good in my current location.

Allison was fantastic! You can tell she really loves animals and we trusted her completely with our pup. She even based her visits on how she felt our dog was doing, and how much attention she felt she needed. Will definitely be reaching out to her again for upcoming travels!

Lachelle is a great petsitter and housesitter. Our dog, Jamie, adores her, and when we return all is safe and sound, and he is happy. We highly recommend her.

We are animal lovers! We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and if space allows, we would continue to grow our numbers. We love walking our dogs, getting outside, and just spending time with our animals. Your dog doesn't have to be great on a leash, because we too have been there and are able to handle the dog in a positive manner. We are also willing to dog watch/house sit. We would not stay at your house but can stop by several times a day to spend time with your animals and take them out on walks. We have experience with all types of animals: dogs, cats, birds, fishes, snakes, and hamsters. We are professionals first and foremost (I am an RN and my partner is a sales representative). We have very flexible schedules that allow us to meet your needs!

I'm based out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am available for pet and house sitting. I love every kind of animal. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

Are you looking for a place where your dogs can run and play while you are at work? Then, call us! We offer reasonable rates and great personal care. I am a vet tech and professional dog show handler with 8 years of experience who can provide daycare for your best friend. I provide a large heated play area with rubber matting and access to a large safely fenced play yard. Proof of current vaccination is required. We are also offering overnight boarding, grooming, and one-on-one basic obedience training. References are available upon request. Puppy Sitter is the preferred provider of daycare/boarding services of former Woof World Doggy Daycare clients.

I can watch your house or your pet and do some cleaning in the house. I love animals. I can walk, feed and play with your pets, making them comfortable and happy.

Hello! My name is Megan and I am a student at Portland Community College. I am a rabid animal lover, so I decided creating my own pet sitting and walking business. It would be a great way for me to make money. I am willing to travel to you and my price is negotiable. I promise to take the best care of your animal.

I love dogs! My father is a local vet, so I'm pretty familiar with animals. I provide a pet excercise service and can help socialize your puppy, so they may get used to other dogs at a young age.

I'm great with animals! I'm also great with kids ages six months and over. I was an intern at my high school's day care in all four years of my high school career!

I don't own a business, but I'm looking to find jobs here and there taking care of houses, pets, kids, or other needs.

I have pets myself, and I love walking and feeding dogs. I also love to host sitting because I am very comfortable with being in-charge.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
