Installed a chain link fence, approx 200 feet length. They took down the old, warped wooden fence and put up the new chain link fence in a single day. They did all the disposal and cleanup of the old fencing material as well as overgrown shrubs. It looks SO much better. Even my neighbor was impressed with Fernando's quick work.

Julian is a perfectionist when it comes to fence installation. He installed an 8 foot fence with 5 gates. One of which was a car gate and the gates swing open at a touch. The fence line is straight as an arrow and the appearance is more than I ever expected. In fact, I was so impressed that I also hired him to install an automatic sprinkler system and to landscape my front yard. Well done!

I wanted to surprise my niece with a new fence while she was away visiting her mother. A young newlywed on a tight budget, their new home came with a fence that allowed her pups to escape. Jesus responded quickly, bid a fair price and started/completed the project in a timely fashion. We are all pleased with his work and would definitely use him again. Don’t hesitate to call Jesus for your fencing needs!

This is the first time I've used Thumbtack. For starters, the website itself worked great. I got 4 quick replies from various folks responding to my need to have a wood fence built at my home. I chose Ethan from Castle Handymen. My existing fence had completely fallen over due to rot and I was in a bit of a rush to get it fixed as I have a dog and didn't want her getting out. Ethan came over, placed the posts, and then came back the following day to finish up with the fence boards. For a very reasonable price, Ethan built a beautiful new fence using quality parts (galvanized nails, very good grade boards, etc.) I am very pleased with his workmanship, professionalism, and promptness to reply and get the job done quickly. I will definitely hire Ethan again to work on some of my other home projects. - Linda K.

Tim was hired to install a fence along my property as my existing fence was falling down. Approx. 150ft of fencing. I had a short window for when I wanted it done and Tim was able to fit me in due to a space in his project schedule. I made some last minute changes to what I wanted during installation and Tim and his team accommodated. I wanted to wait a while before writing the review just to see how the fence has held up and I've been very happy with the results. Tim was very communicative and kept me in the loop the whole process. Thanks Tim and team!

Job went great. Discussed all the details with us prior to the job and while he was completing the job. Family friendly guy who does quality work. His bid came in 1/3rd less than another fencing company in the area whose name rhymes with "Nick's." Would hire again and recommend to anyone.

I am satisfied with the job, which was completed a day earlier than expected. They even helped me remove a fence, which is not part of the job. They are very respectful and really care about my expectation and preference. I strongly recommend this company.

Jesse Rubino has been taking care of my yard for several years and has always been extremely affordable and professional. I have found him to be honest and beyond the landscape work in the past year he has installed a complete sprinkler and drip system and recently he built an entire new fence around my large yard. I would recommend his services to anyone.

Daniel and his crew with American General, LLC installed a parameter fence for our 6 acres. There are 2 water passages on the property and it is hilly. That did not seem to deter Daniel and they did a terrific job with in the proposed amount of time. I would highly recommend American General for all of your contracting needs.

They removed the mangled fence and fallen tree's from a car crashing through our yard the day after we called them. The tree's were hard to find due to their height. They found tree’s of the correct height and installed them. Best thing is, when we ran our sprinkler system, I found there was a broken pvc line. They came out and fixed it…no extra charge! They then ran the sprinklers and adjusted them without us even asking. Now that’s being thorough! I would hire them any day of the week. Most importantly, Their price was very reasonable as we got quote from other sources, most of which were 1-3 months out to even start the job.

I called several contractors and had several bids going. Chase Construction by far gave me a very reasonable and fair bid for my house remodel. Beating all the bids I had received. I had Erik Watson performed several jobs ranging from foundation, framing, installation, drywall, tile, painting, roofing,my decking and fixed my fence. Not only was his work beyond my expectations. He's kind and courteous. He's punctual and gets the job done in a timely matter. I don't typically write reviews. But after weeks of endless outrageous bids. I'm just trying to share this little secert gem of a contractor. To those who are looking for a good honest general contractor. I highly recommend Chase Construction

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
