Reading and Writing Tutoring

  • Serves Beaverton, OR
I have a Master’s degree in Journalism from NYU. As a freelance journalist and copywriters, I have been published multiple times. I’ve also been a writing tutor for high school and university students for 5+ years and genuinely love all things writing. This not only means I can teach writing, but it also means that I know how to take topics and talk about them in a way that works for others. I generally tutor one-on-one and have tutored freelance, through tutoring centers, both online and in person. The topics I teach are classes I've taken myself or writing I've done in my career. The classes I’ve appreciated and remembered most have always depended more on the professor than the topic itself. I also used to get tutored throughout school, so I understand how helpful it can be. I always make sure students feel safe asking for extra help—even the questions they were hesitant to bring up in class. My approach is based on each individual's needs, knowing what works for one student may not work for another. I like knowing what the student hopes to get out of tutoring and what the expectations of the teacher/assignment are. Whether it's just to write an A paper for the class or to become more of a writer beyond the class itself! Feel free to reach out with any questions—I’d love to help!See more

Reading and Writing Tutoring

Kerry H. says, "Our family is forever grateful for finding Lily! She has completely changed the trajectory of our daughter’s educational journey. Lily has many years of experience as a teacher and reading tutor, and is certified as a Wilson Reading Program instructor, which is considered the gold-standard reading program to teach dyslexic children. Lily is experienced, patient, and dedicated to helping our daughter succeed. Our daughter made amazing strides working with Lily for the last two and a half years and is now able to read grade level texts. Her fluency, decoding and comprehension have all improved and most importantly, her self-esteem has increased so much that now she volunteers to read in class! We recommend Lily to everyone who’s child struggles with reading."See more
