Tina and Anna did an amazing job cleaning my house! I didn't even realize how dusty some things were until they cleaned and then everything looked so much better! She is very fast to respond and fit me in on late notice. No sketchy vibes at all, these seem like great ladies :-)

Heather is very nice and thoughtful, and was willing to come to the house to meet my animals as well as get the layout and go over my needs while away. She stayed a couple nights to take care of things and I felt fully confident in her services. She performed well and is completely trustworthy and I felt safe leaving my babies in her hands. Heather is experienced with all types of animals and she also left the house in immaculate condition. I am excited to use her again for house-sitting and pet-sitting services!

I feel I need to chime in on Kendra's innate ability with boarding animals. To say Kendra is good with pets is an understatement. Kendra goes the extra mile with each creature she comes in contact with; she has an animal rescue kit in her van just in case she comes across an animal in need! A few summers ago, I had a temporary job take me out of state for a month and couldn't take my cat with me. Frantically, I tried to think of a caregiver who would put up with my temperamental feline friend. My cat is not really a "people cat" and prefers not to be touched by anyone other than me; I was truly panicked about finding a place for her. Somehow my kitty was relaxed and at ease while purring and sitting on Kendra's lap only within a few short minutes of reaching the house (not something I have ever seen). Needless to say, all of my worries were put at ease immediately. If your loved one needs a place to stay, look no further! Kendra's compassion, openness and knowledge of dogs, cats, and other furry or feathered friends will amaze you.

I was very happy w/ Deanna. She visited a few days before petsitting, and was very professional yet friendly. She really listened to all the details we went over for the care of my 2 cats. Deanna came promptly the day I left, and stayed as long as I asked her to on day 6. She texted me with ?'s, not pretending she understood something when she didn't (1X), which was very responsible. She texted cat reports several times while I was gone. The cats were fat and sassy upon my return! As a very thoughtful gesture, she washed sheets, emptied garbage and made a fresh bed for me for my return. The house was left spotless (cleaning was NOT in the job description)! I hope she'll be available next time I need a petsitter.

Amy great to work with. She asked the right questions, sent photos & updates and left a very clean house. Our quirky, older dog warmed up to her and was well taken care of. So happy we found her!

Ashley is awesome! She's so caring and respectful towards the animals and their humans. I have had her stay for overnights to take care of my dogs, horses, and goats and have had her come for midday visits to let the dogs get their wiggles out. I've referred her to many friends and family members and have received excellent feedback about how grateful they are to have someone they trust working with their furkids! Also, having a positive reinforcement dog walker/pet sitter is so crucial for the well being of the animals, so I am very thankful to have found someone who values humane and effective techniques.

Brian has been my lab Hudson's best friend for the past 3 years. He has taken care of all our dog walking and house sitting needs, even when it's been short notice. I definitely trust Brian and can tell he loves his work...and that my dog loves him!

Crissy arranged a 6 month home sit for our unfurnished house. From the beginning she was excellent to work with. She found us wonderful house sitters and was absolutely meticulous and on task every step of the way. Initially I was slightly nervous about the idea of having strangers live in our home, but Crissy quickly reassured me and guided me through the selection and move in process. Once the house sitters were in place they more than proved their worth. We had a bad leak in our basement and some damage to our backyard due to a storm. Had the house sitters not been there we would have ended up with a lot of costly damage. Crissy also helped us several times through the BT Concierge service by supervising the installation of our washer/dryer and new blinds. In every way BT and Crissy went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. Crissy repaired a small leak by caulking the window and provided invaluable advice in selecting a contractor to waterproof our basement. I have absolute trust in BT and Crissy to take care of our home during our absence and cannot sing her praises enough.

    About

I'm a retired military, DAVet, and a recent widower looking for something to provide experienced service in this area to start. I have over 7 years of experience with B&B, once in Albany, Oregon. If you're looking for someone to house-sit privately and maybe tend to your plants and animals, or if you're looking for some sort of data entry work on your computer, please contact me before you spend many times the amount on someone who might cramp your lifestyle. You don't have to worry about your liquor or food if you're looking for a house-sitter, as I don't drink alcohol and will obtain my own food, and you don't have to worry about someone who may be hosting wild parties or whatever. I'll respect your wishes, whatever they might be. I also offer experienced bed-and-breakfast and house-sitting. I am interested in finding (out of the way) clean environment (smoke-free) and houses in need of overnight security while owners are away. I can also provide care for friendly pets. I have my own four-legged medical companion. Please feel free to contact me with your questions. Thank you so much for your kind consideration.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

    • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
    • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
    • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
