Great experience moving with 503! Larry and Michael were right on time and made quick work of it. Items were packed and unpacked with care, and they even helped move my super heavy ceramic barbecue down a flight of patio stairs to the grilling spot. I couldn’t be happier with the work and would highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks guys!!

Wow! The best movers I have ever hired! I am in the Real state business, I have hired a dozen or more of labor movers in the last year. PNW MOVING is the best! I highly recommend them. They were on time, fast, safe, and very professional! Josh & Roy were so kind. And so understanding, they picked up my piano like it wieghed nothing. They packed my whole house under 5 hours. I told them I had a 8 hour budget, and they surpised me so much! They saved me money and time, I even took the guise out tk eat after wards! They loaded the truck so well and professional, everything was wrapped, tied down, safety moved. I actually hired then again a few days later for a move for my client, this time I hired 6 PNW Moving guiee and wow. They are so amazing. A++++++++ all the way.

Emmanuel responded to request to chat about the project right away. I needed someone quickly, and he was easy to schedule with. He started from the beginning offering an overview of his experience, tasks he is qualified to complete, and specialized areas that he excels with. He arrived right on time and assembled my 5 piece patio set and was able to move and assemble a fire pit. Before beginning the project, he reviewed my expectations with me, and offered a few creative suggestions to enhance the project. He remained focused throughout the project, appeared to be well organized, and worked uninterrupted until it was completed. His work was completed ahead of the time he had time to help me rearrange furniture. I am looking to start my next project with Emmanuel. I am very pleased with the result!

Hernandez and Juan moved most of our heavy belonging out of our house in the 5 hours that we hired them for. I would recommend using Hernandez to a friend as they worked quickly and carefully. One bummer though, we overpaid him and he could have noticed it. Our agreement was supposed to be 350 and we paid him 400. Then I I payed him another 40 for a tip. That would have been a good opportunity to realize we paid enough already with the 400. This is what happens when both you and your partner square up with the movers.

Mike and his team were absolutely awesome! They arrived on time and worked the entire day for me. They wrapped all of my furniture with blankets, protected my floors with red carpet and even had these special door pads to cover our front door! They were extremely effiecient and worked in the blazing heat! My overall experience was just amazing. They’re very affordable for the work they do. My last move, I paid double the price per hour and the movers weren’t even half as good. I’ll defiantly be using this crew again if I ever plan on moving in the future.

He wrapped and padded all my large furniture, flat screens, extra large mirrors and also made a custom box for my glass furniture. They padded and moved my large and heavy granite table. These guys are great! I called and got an appointment in less than a week. They showed up on time & ready to go. They didn't waste any time, and I was impressed with how professional and prepared they were, with all kinds of time-saving equipment. These guys are machines. Throughout the 4 hours they were with me they continually asked what I wanted, what more can they help with... all with a big smile & friendly vibe. All the furniture made it without a scratch. They moved our ~ 500lb rifle safe like it was nothing. I also loved that they came with extra tall boxes for loose things that I had yet to pack. Four hours of their time, moving from Beaverton to Tigard cost about $500 which maybe sounds expensive (?) but honestly I felt so comfortable with them and they did such a good job it's totally worth it. Overall, I would call them again the next time I move, guaranteed.

Pdx movers is contracted with ZippyShell. I had hired zippy shell to make my move across the country with four small children go smoothly. Zippy shell made everything worse. Pdx went above and beyond what they were required to do, from the front desk lady Audree going out of her way to call zippy multiple times on my behalf to the three moving men who unloaded the shell in record time-thanks Mychal, Daltan, and Brett. PDX was there for me every step of the way. I HIGHLY recommend them for any moving needs! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Small local job limited to one-bedroom size. My greatest concern was moving my movable base Sleep Number. This is a brick and mortar affiliate of National Moving. They have experience with Costco moving these specialty beds. All three referrals would have sufficed but I chose these folks because of these two reasons.

Alex and company are amazing! We were being strung along by our big-name moving company, and needed to be in Missouri to start a new job. After yet another delay, and yet another "guarantee", we were desperate and found AmerApex Moving. Alex contacted us on a Monday and by Thursday, they were there! They were absolute lifesavers, and did everything they could to take care of our belongings and make us feel at ease. And then they were in Missouri by Saturday to unload everything in our new house! On top of that, they are incredibly friendly and made a stressful situation feel much lighter. We can't thank Alex enough, and wish every moving company out there could be half as professional and effective as his!

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

You guys were great! A quick phone call on a Saturday afternoon asking for a pickup Sunday at 11 o’clock to help me move a large piece of furniture from my home to a storage garage. I asked for Roy as another person had suggested, and was very pleased. Both Roy and Tyson showed up on time, were professional, and thorough. Roy was very conscientious about how to move and store my mother’s antique China cabinet. My husband and I had some suggestions ourselves and we all got along easily while handling this large piece of furniture down some stairs and into our van. Their price was good, it does not include a vehicle. So it costs more if you need a truck. We were able to fit it in our van, no problem. At the other end of the job, they wrapped it in the blankets we provided and the shrink wrap to wrap around it, and once again why and Tyson were conscientious, and thorough. And quick! It was a very small job, but those of us who are older and can’t lift heavy things, we depend on people like you to help us out. Roy was very appreciative, respectful, and friendly.Great job Done Rite Movers, I

Moving is normally a very scary, & expensive, along with being at the mercy of who you chose to help move you. This was a bit different but was good in many ways. We packed our own items into boxes. Then they picked up all the boxes and large furniture and took it to our new residence. They handled everything in a professional manner, setting everything where we requested. Our move was within the same local area. This was a lot less financial burden to us and wasn't the stress normally associated with moving.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
