Jason and the guys were very capable, eager to please, and did a great job removing one tree, and pruning out dead and dangerous limbs from our many other big trees. They were also respectful of the neighbors and kept to the quoted amount. We'd use them again anytime.

The owner is great to work with, very responsive, handles any issues that arise and is just over all a nice guy. The end result of our yard overhaul was beautiful. I did have a few concerns with the quality of work after the fact. The weed barrier used seems to be very low quality. Weeks after the job, there was grass and weeds growing in my bark chips and there wasn't even weed barrier used around my tree. To be fair to Errin, I did not contact him about these issues, so my disappointment may have been rectified. Overall, I would recommend them with the request that they use quality weed control measures! 😊

Huge thanks to John and his wonderful, proficient, professional and knowledgable crew. I had just posted my request; within few hours John had responded, I called back, he came to see the job next morning and they came back same afternoon and the tree is gone. John was mindful of our needs and accommodated us accordingly. The cost fitted perfectly within our budget and I will certainly recommend his company for any tree service needed. Quick response, Competent service, Affordable cost, Perfect clean up! Could not have asked for more! Thanks again!

We had four trees removed, three cedars cleaned up,and a huge walnut tree pruned. Mike and Rochelle were friendly, attentive, and they ensured that the job was done well. The price was excellent, and we have referred our neighbors to them. We will be using them again, should we need tree services in the future.

The tree removal went great. They were very professional and friendly. It was amazing to watch him in the tree, that was over 80ft tall and about 15ft from 2 houses on each side. He was in the tree for over 7 hours just to get it down to the trunk which they finished up with the following Saturday. The ground crew was attentive to the surrounding area and took good care to keep things safe. The stump grinding was just done yesterday, and the workers did a fine job through some tough weather and rocks.

While Jose showed up at my house on the wrong day, I allowed him to plant my trees anyway and he did a great job. I would hire him again in the future as well as recommend him to others. He is very hard working and planted my trees the way I asked. 👍

The job entailed the removal of four trees in our backyard that were mingling with the utility lines. Joe was quick to respond to our inquiry and set up a proposal appointment shortly thereafter. He gave us several options in terms of how we could achieve what we needed to do and we selected the removal of the four trees in one shot. The initial job appointment had to be delayed till the next day due to employee illness and Joe was quick to inform us of it. The next day they arrived in the morning, and after a cordial greeting, went straight to work. The work execution was well organized and each person, in the crew of three, each had their role which they fulfilled. Joe has an awesome crew and the main chainsaw guy must have arms of steel encased carbon fiber. I was pretty amazed at how they worked. They then cleaned up after the job and payment was rendered. The quoted proposal cost was absolutely amazing in terms of getting the most bang for your buck. Joe Grab has an awesome team and I would highly recommend them and will be using them for any future tree services I may need.

Noble Tree & Land Care pruned an overlooked plum tree for me and were professional and very knowledgeable. I didn't know anything about how to care for the tree and they took the extra time to fill me in for future care in a way that was understandable. They did a great job and I would definitely hire them back again and recommend their company to friends, plus my dog loved them!

Dan was reasonable priced next to the competition. I had sod, yard cleanup, bark, tree trimming and plant relocation done. It was done quickly, and professionally. The crew moved two huge elderberry bushes without damaging them or the house. I was really hoping to save them and I'm sure they will do well in their new spot. The yard looks great. There was some miscommunication regarding one part of the project. Dan did his best to rectify.

Josiah and his team were amazing! I had four trees cut down and stumps grinded, and three trees pruned. The bid was very reasonable, they were flexible with my schedule as I wanted to be home while it happened. They left my yard cleaner than when they arrived. I wish I had more work to hire them for! Don't hesitate to work with them if you are in need of tree services.

Roberto and his partner did a great job of removing a tree in my backyard. They were able to remove the stump to several inches below the ground so that a stump grinder was not necessary. He checked with me throughout the job process to make sure they were doing exactly what I wanted done. Roberto left the site so tidy that you couldn’t even tell a tree had been there. I would definitely use his service again.

Knowledgable & flexible. Fixed the broken sprinkler heads. Also "tuned up" the remaining sprinkler heads. He was also able to come back later in the day and trim back a dogwood tree for me, for a reasonable, additional cost, which wasn't part of the original scope of work.

Had Carlos and Antonio remove two stumps for us and all I can say is these guys know their business! Quick, efficient, on time and very reasonably priced.....what more can you ask of any contractor? They removed both stumps within an hour and, when finished, cleaned up the area. Made it appear as if they were never there. I would certainly recommend them to anyone seeking prompt, professional tree service. Gene F., Manning,OR.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
