Jason and the guys were very capable, eager to please, and did a great job removing one tree, and pruning out dead and dangerous limbs from our many other big trees. They were also respectful of the neighbors and kept to the quoted amount. We'd use them again anytime.

Vista Tree Service was outstanding! Great work, great price, friendly, accommodating. 6 weeks after our initial pruning and tree removal we had a tree come down in our backyard in a big windstorm. I emailed on Saturday and John was here on Sunday, for a very reasonable fee. Highly recommended.

John and his crew are very knowledgeable about trees and their care. He patiently and thoroughly educated me about the kind of trim my overgrown tree needed to thrive. They followed through on all promises; and were great about checking in with me as the job progressed, to assure I was happy with how the tree was shaping up (literally). They left my property in spotless condition, and the tree looks great - my roof, gutters, and neighbor are happy now, too. I would recommend NW Tree Work to anyone requiring tree pruning/thinning/management, and would have them back to my yard in a heartbeat when there's a need.

I originally wanted the top of the tree cut off. We were told that that would harm the tree. The two guys that Mike sent out did a great job. We appreciated the fact that they all seemed more concern about the health of the tree and what was best for the tree. Rochelle and Mike were both easy to work with and were professional in how they did there job. GOOD JOB!

They did a great job taking down a 40ft birch tree that was dying. They did this in the pouring rain. The crew was very courteous. The price was very reasonable. At the last minute I asked them to remove some shrubs also. They had no problem doing that for me and the added fee was way under what I expected.

We wanted 2 - 50' trees down and another tree limbed. Joe gave us the lowest of 4 bids and came the next day and did the work. Efficient and professional, exactly what we wanted.

While Jose showed up at my house on the wrong day, I allowed him to plant my trees anyway and he did a great job. I would hire him again in the future as well as recommend him to others. He is very hard working and planted my trees the way I asked. 👍

Dan was reasonable priced next to the competition. I had sod, yard cleanup, bark, tree trimming and plant relocation done. It was done quickly, and professionally. The crew moved two huge elderberry bushes without damaging them or the house. I was really hoping to save them and I'm sure they will do well in their new spot. The yard looks great. There was some miscommunication regarding one part of the project. Dan did his best to rectify.

Kevin was here promptly and performed all of the quoted duties including cleaning our gutters, flushing the downspouts, scrubbing and treating the roof for moss, and removing a large dead limb from high up in a tree. He cleaned everything up nicely. His price was competitive. We will be calling Kevin in the future to do our general yard maintenance.

Eddi and his people do great work. I hired them to basically level my yard so that it sloped away from the house, redo the back yard so that my dog could play out there without it turning into a mudpit, build some raised flowerbeds in front, and get rid of a bunch of unwanted shrubs in the back to make way for more flowers. In addition he suggested I let them cut the branches of my neighbor's trees that were hanging over my yard. I was really glad I did the last. In addition togetting rid of branches that come down into my yard during windstorms it let more sunlight into my back yard. I was really impressed how they were able to extract the shrubs and small trees that were growing in my back flower bed without harming any of the roses. Some of the unwanted trres and shrubs were really packed tight in with the roses and I was sure that they would have to sacrifice some rose bushes, but I am happy to say that all the roses are still alive and budding. The flower boxes out front look great and will hold lots of beautiful flowers. The backyard is now redesigned with river stone to make it a great play pen for my dog that is easy to clean up. I will definitely hire Greenscape for any other landscaping projects in the future.

Josiah and his crew were a pleasure to deal with from the start of the project until it was completed. He gave an honest assessment of our trees and made a recommendation that was the less expensive option. His crew removed one tree, pruned two large trees (over 100 feet) and ground down two stumps (one was 80” +). The trees look amazing and they did a great job cleaning up.

Would hire again! One of the best quotes for thinning and pruning our tree. We had hired a different service a few years ago and they need not do as good of a job as Mike’s. I appreciated the responsiveness, especially when we had to reschedule the job to another day than originally planned.

I just moved into my house and my lawn got too tall before I got my mower. I needed someone to knock it back so my little electric could do the job. Jose was able to come out right away, did an excellent job at a price that was very reasonable and was very kind. My next door neighbor sent her husband to get Jose's information to hire him for work in their yard because they loved the work so much.

Roberto and his partner did a great job of removing a tree in my backyard. They were able to remove the stump to several inches below the ground so that a stump grinder was not necessary. He checked with me throughout the job process to make sure they were doing exactly what I wanted done. Roberto left the site so tidy that you couldn’t even tell a tree had been there. I would definitely use his service again.

We are so very happy that we found Squirrel Landscaping in Thumbtack. They were very quick to get a reasonable quote to us and one day later the job was done. Our yard was a horrible weed mess. They came in and weeded by hand until the yard was perfect. They pruned our trees and trimmed the bushes. Then took a blower and got rid of all the leaves and debris. Our yard looks brand new! I highly recommend this landscaper.

Pedro is outstanding. Our yard, which is about 1/4 acre was in bad shape. All my bushes and trees needed trimmed. There were tons of weeds, at least 10 different flower beds that needed cleaned out, weeded and raked. It was a huge job. Pedro showed up early yesterday morning around 8 and completed the entire job by himself, by 6pm. He maintained all my flowers that were already blooming, cleaned out all my beds, he even cleaned up around my raised garden beds, which I told him he didnt have to do, but was thrilled that he did. My yard looks amazing today. And once again he did this all alone. We were so impressed that my husband gave him an extra $100 and we have hired him to do our maintanance every 2 weeks. Pedro is professional, hard working, and understood my vision for my yard. I highly recommend him.

Emilio and his team were amazing! Our 40 ft Alder had a Palm tree and pond on one side, and a delicate ornamental tree on the other side. Each limb was dropped precisely where they wanted it to go. I got some great photos, but this site was turning them sideways so I opted not to include them. They are coming again on Monday for another project! Gail

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
