I couldn't have found a better person for our tv mounting. Jody was kind, patient with all my questions and efficient with our time. Just when I thought our wall wouldn't work for the mount, he found a way. Super grateful for him!

I had a great experience with Yazek. I spoke with him yesterday he met me at 9am this morning and went right to work. Installed 3 bathroom faucets, 1 wall light and a couple smoke detectors. He also replaced some old plumbing stuff under the sink. Very professional and honest. Thank you! Andy

Alex came to clean our gutters. Alex arrived on time. Was well equipped with ladders and buckets. Handled the ladders with care so as not to cause any damage to gutters or housing siding. Took apart one for the gutter elbows that was clogged to eliminate existing and potentail furure problems associated with the clog. Overall, did an excellent job. Would utilize his services again for future gutter cleaning.

I had Corey out to fix three cracks in a wall that I didn't feel would turn out correct had I done them myself. He was promptly on time, even early (after checking with me), was polite, and held good knowledgeable conversation. He made me feel comfortable letting him in my home. He did a great job on the cracks and offered to change out an o-ring I had mentioned of him maybe doing at a later time. I would use his services again and would highly recommend him.

Chris, did several jobs around my house both inside and out. I had excellent communication with Chris and he did a great job! I would most defiantly hire him again, in fact in a few months he is going to build me a wall to wall floor to ceiling bookcase. Will keep you posted. Hire him, he is good and fair! Thank you Chris, Linda S.S.

I needed a small amount of work done repairing 4 large holes left in a wall from a leaky pipe repair. After struggling to find someone to come out during their busy season, John respond quickly, saying no job was too small. The repairs were made a week after the initial estimate was given. They did a wonderful job, finished quickly and on time. Most of all they worked well within my budget. I would recommend them to anyone looking to have some work done and would hire them again for future needs.

We had 4 rooms painted, Tim and his crew did an excellent job! Bid was fair, and was able to start quickly. We had a week to complete work before we moved in, job was completed on time as promised. He and his crew even removed screws and mails, filled the holes, and retextured the wall to match perfectly. Interactions with him and his crew were all professional and courteous, all communication and details of the work were very clear. We will definitely hire again without any hesitation.

Andrey Kosmin utilizes one or two other individuals to work with him on remodeling projects such as mine. Both have extensive experience in the business, as does Andrey. I found him to be honest, straightforward, punctual and precise. He does not cut corners, insists on doing the job you hire him for in a professional manner. He provides information on what he believes to be the best approach to your project, then proceeds to perform exactly as the customer asks. He is not satisfied with anything less than a perfect job. His prices are very reasonable, although you can find contractors who will agree to do your job at a somewhat lower price. In my experience with Andrey and Viewpoint NW, you will not get a better result from another contractor. One area not listed in the ratings scale is courtesy. He gets another five stars in that area. Pay just a little more and you'll not regret it with this outfit. They'll be my first choice for future projects.

On short notice - they were able to paint several rooms (no moldings just walls) we supplied all the paint & supplies including tarps etc. They were scheduled Saturday afternoon - but arrived at 8:45am not a deal breaker - but we weren't dressed yet! We appreciated their desire to handle the job however we were very disappointed to come home & find the crew didn't clean up after they were finished. They'd tracked in dirt & debris coming in and out and there were paint splatters all over the house. I would use them again but would insist they come back to clean up - we couldn't wait for them to arrange that - so we did it ourselves.

We initially called Brad for some basic household repairs and interior paint while getting ready to sell our home. Luckily, we pointed out a small crack in the drywall, and upon closer inspection it was found to be squishy (yikes!) leading us to pull back the baseboard and discover mold running the length of the wall. The roof gutter had been built into the exterior siding and had been leaking into the wall for years. If Brad's team had not discovered this and made it an immediate priority to repair, it could have impacted the sale of the house and possibly led to future lawsuits against us from the eventual buyer. Thanks to A1 acting quickly, our gutter/siding/interior wall problem got all fixed up, the new paint and carpet look great and the house sold within days of the work being completed. What could have delayed the sale for months only took a couple of weeks to remedy. Thank you Brad and team! We recommend A1, and we will be calling them to help us fix up our new house too.

Luis painted three interior accent walls for us, one is huge with a 13' peak. Even with the high contrasting colors, the edges are clean and crisp. He worked quickly and didn't leave any mess behind. He also painted exterior trim for our neighbor and did a great job. I've recommended him often!

We initially contacted Alex to paint the outside of our home. We were ecstatic about the quality of work they did and have received multiple compliments from our neighbors since. We ended up using them for our interior as well. They did and amazing job restoring and repainting our cabinets, staircase, and walls. We will be referring them to everyone we know!

I hired Matt for several jobs around the house, including sheetrocking over old lathe and plaster in the kitchen; installing a new floor in the kitchen; painting walls in two rooms; cutting and installing baseboards in the kitchen; designing and building a large cabinet for the bathroom; and installing thresholds for two rooms. I found Matt to be extremely capable, on time, cleaned up after jobs, totally honest and reliable as well as a very pleasant person to have working in my home. He is creative and skilled. I am glad I found him and will call him back whenever I need help around the house. Highly recommended!!!

We remodeled a recently purchased 1970's home. We raised the living room floor, removed a raised floor in the master bedroom, replaced all the floors with hardwood, moved the washer and dryer to a different location, installed recessed lighting, changed all of the interior doors, changed an interior cedar wall to an amazing feature wall and painted the interior. We used IBI as the contractor for our remodeling. The quality of work was excellent. The work was completed on budget except for change orders that we made during construction. When changes were needed we received bids, negotiated the work to be completed and electronically accepted the changes before any work was done. The workers on our project were excellent and professional. They continually asked us questions to be sure the work was done to meet our needs. They gave us advice and helped us make the right decisions. They were pleasant and made the experience fun. We weren't living in the house when the project was done, but we never felt uncomfortable about leaving knowing that the workers were going to do the right thing. We learned to be patient as there were delays. Sub-contractors were not always available, IBI had other clients that had deadlines that needed to be met; however, we had regular communications on reasons for delays and when they anticipated completion of tasks in the project. We have recommended IBI to friends and IBI would be our first contact if we need a contractor.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
