Sybil is not only a tremendous musician and composer but, most importantly, a teacher who has the gift of making the art-form accessible. Whether you are a beginner or advanced player the insight Sybil provides allows the learning to be made applicable to all styles of guitar playing. I can say that I am not only understanding music theory and how it can be used...I am learning to apply it to my playing and it has opened up the guitar in ways I never thought possible. As an added bonus, I'm able to listen, appreciate and discuss music at a level I never knew existed. I can't recommend Sybil more highly. If you want to grow as a player, you'd be foolish to not engage the teaching master Sybil Grace and the pros at PGA! \m/\m/

Sybil is an amazing teacher! I came to Sybil in hopes of learning guitar and came to her feeling as if I knew nothing at all. I've been taking lessons for a couple months and I already see progress and see a solid direction where I am headed and am loving the experience! Sybil always works with you, not against you and always encourages you to set goals and helps you reach them. I've already decided in the few months knowing Sybil that I will be sticking with her for the long run. Her vast knowledge of music and understanding of how to teach and make me feel comfortable as a student amazes me still. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to take music seriously and become topnofnthenline the line in your musicianship. I find her to be very friendly, easy to talk to and above all professional. Any questions I have are answered in a easily explained way so I'm never confused and have a grasp of what I'm looking at. I can say all I can but if your looking for a guitar teacher then look no further she's the real deal:)

I've been working with Sybil for a little over two years. I was classically trained on the piano as a child, and had taught myself guitar over several years. I was able to play guitar somewhat proficiently, but I wasn't really progressing as I would hope after years of study. Working with Sybil, I have been able to overcome this plateau, and I've made enormous strides in my guitar technique, as well as with my songwriting ability and goals. Sybil personalizes our lessons, catering to my goals as a musician. It's a very dynamic approach to teaching, and one that I have had much more success with than previous teachers.My abilities as a songwriter and guitarist would not be where they are today without Sybil. I highly recommend study with her and the rest of her instructors.

I took lessons with Jesse Marseille for a couple of months and he has completely changed the way that I approach playing the guitar. I've been to a few different instructors, and this guy, out of all of them, was able to see the very minute flaws in my technique, (both in mindset and in execution), and help me work through them. I now play much faster, cleaner, freer and more efficiently than I even thought was possible. This man has a system for everything, knowledge as wide and deep as a lake, and is constantly on the search for better ways to completely dominate the guitar. Aside from just being a teaching machine, this guy is seriously interesting. He could teach a class on counting rocks and it would be compelling. I can't recommend highly enough.

I found Portland Guitar Academy after realizing that after years of playing guitar I really was not the guitarist I wanted to be. I sought out a teacher that would hold me to a high standard, who had extensive knowledge in technicality and music theory, and would still create and enjoyable environment to learn. Sybil immediately set my mind at ease by objectively taking an assessment of my ability and outlining a plan to get me to my goals in an efficient and well thought out manner. I've been with Portland Guitar Academy for a couple of years now and can say without hesitation that I could never have achieved the level of musicality and technical skill I now have without Sybil's insight and guidance. The best part is that I'm still getting better and making progress towards new goals as I continue to be a part of Portland Guitar Academy.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We will generally set up a free introductory session so I can get to know the student, find out their goals, and address any questions/concerns they may have. After that we will discuss my teaching style and what they can expect from lessons with me. I will create a plan of how to help the student and help them select any equipment they need.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with a range of clients from Total beginners to AAA level metal guitarists. I love working with all types of students.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Take your time, carefully interview each instructor and find out what they can do to help you reach your goals.
