Jesse is a wonderful voice teacher. I come from a vocal music background and was quite serious, at one point planning on studying vocal music in college. As such, I've worked with a number of voice teachers in my "old life", but took a break for around 8 years after I lost my love for the subject. I decided it was time to revisit my lost love and it was very nerve wracking - I had lost a lot of my range, and hadn't seriously sang in years. However, Jesse has made it easy to return to music, and practices the kind of balanced teaching I was always looking for but never found when I was seriously studying. His vocal exercises are great - they successfully combine breath support, stretching range, and increasing intricacy. He has a variety of music styles as well, and won't peg you to one - musicals, jazz, opera, whatever. He balances a stress-free experience alongside pushing you when you need it. Most of all, I'm getting back into fighting shape (vocally), while still having fun and laughing a lot, and if there's anything I've learned, you have to be having fun.
Kris is an excellent teacher and instructor. He caters each lesson to my abilities and interests. He explains music theory concepts clearly and follows up each lesson with an emailed summary of what was taught. He's willing to work with you at your pace. My skills as a pianist and song writer have improved significantly since I began working with Kris.
Shannon is a great piano teacher. He is fun and makes his students feel comfortable. Shannon not only teaches how to read music but chord progression. He knows all types of music and does his best to accommodate the child's interest. With my son he assessed his abilities as was able to encourage him to try all kinds of music from classic, rock, jazz, religious, and even Christmas. My son says Shannon is awesome! We hate that he moved out of our area. Anyone taking lessons from Shannon will be fortunate to have such a talented man for their teacher.
Chris and the UpFront Band performed for our wedding reception. They performed as a 5-piece jazz/swing combo. They were outstanding! We are swing dancers and we wanted the music to swing. They delivered exactly what we requested. They sounded great and were fun and professional. During the planning process, I corresponded with Chris by e-mail. Chris was easy to work with, responsive to our requests, and ready with ideas and suggestions. I highly recommend the UpFront Band for special events for dancers and jazz lovers.
Welcoming and knowledgeable. Jane is an excellent teacher and pianist.
I've worked with Miles on several projects and seen his experience first hand. He is an exceptional pianist, beat maker, mixer, and producer. Miles is easy to get along with, he has a solid knowledge of making music and can comfortably manage and arrange your music in a professional manner that fits your needs and stylistic inclinations. He has a great ear, is exceptionally creative, and is experienced producing many different musical genres. Whether you are looking to record one or more beat or song, I strongly encourage you to contact him to finish and direct your project, I highly recommend Miles. Zimanini
Attila has taught my son in the last 6,5 years. They spent lot of memorable lessons together starting with simple children's songs ending with Blue bossa jazz standard. He is patient and has good sense of humor, wide range of music styles. Thanks to his work my son plays the guitar very well and he is the guitar player of the Big Band at the Music School. Highly recommended teacher.
Brian is a highly professional, extremely likeable, reliable and talented pianist. I have hired him on many occasions. I would not hesitate to recommend his services.
Today was my first day working with Darin, and I must say I was more than impressed by his knowledge in music, skills in pedagogy, and his overall passion and enthusiasm for music and teaching! I could truly sense his excitement for me to learn and how much he cared to provide me with all the resources needed for me to succeed. He is not only an excellent pianist, but truly has incredible talent and knowledge in teaching. He truly spends his time generously in teaching and makes the learning experience so exciting. Darin spend extra time outside of the lesson planning out the lesson and then typing up all the things we covered in the lesson so I would have a summary and point of reference. I highly recommend him and am looking forward to working with him as my teacher!
We have listened to Chance Hayden in several venues, including our annual garden party. We’ve seen him play with a variety of players where his selfless musicianship brings out the best in all members of the band. He always delivers an innovative jazz-blues groove and pays homage to his heroes. Chance is a gift to the local Portland music scene. His inventive style and leadership has been praised internationally.
Ashlee is a great instructor! She knows when and how to push her students and is incredibly encouraging. You can tell she has a love of music, piano and teaching.
Shlomo has been my son's piano teacher for almost two years, and my family and I are very thankful for having him as the instructor to our kid. He is patient and easily understood, and his method of teaching young kids at an early age ~6-7 years old) is both interesting and fundamentally strong. He is not shy to bring his knees down just to talk to the kid, and he is a wonderful pianist and composer as well! He is easily one of the most talented teacher that we have seen, and we are glad to gave him the wholehearted recommendations. My son is entering level one now having completed both prep A and B levels, a and he is having a lot of fun in Shlomo's class (private one on one lesson).
I've been taking jazz guitar lessons with Tim since 2013 and have always found him responsive to my musical interests and concerns. He comes to my home every other week and is ready to review and go over material from the previous lesson before approaching and building on prior knowledge and skills. Tim is fluent in all genres of guitar playing from folk to rock to jazz and is well equipped to teach and assist the beginner to the proficient and advanced player. I consider the money I've spent taking guitar lesson with Tim to be money well spent. I think the advances in both my guitar playing and overall knowledge of music and guitar theory is well demonstrated in both the complexity of my playing and the extent of tunes on which I can now draw.
Carlos is an amazing guitar teacher! Our son learned so much over the years with Carlos & currently plays in two high level Jazz Bands! Thank you Carlos! xoxo The Ball Family
I've known David for many years. We crossed paths musically many times throughout school. He's a phenomenal pianist. I've hired him for events and always recommend him as an accompanist or teacher when I hear people looking for a role I'm unable to fill.
Alicia is great to work with. She teaches you different styles and aspects to your singing. She explains the logic behind her style and helps you to expand your singing abilties beyond what you thought was possible. I would recommend her to anyone looking to improve on their singing :)
I am not your 'typical' gig pianist. I received my training at the Juilliard School University of Michigan and the Aspen Music Festival. I was a former Assistant Conductor of the Oregon Symphony under James Depriest, and currently play piano at the world famous Allison Inn in Newberg. I am one of the rare pianist that can play Classical, Pops and Showtunes on an equally high level. Requests? No problem!
I am a jazz pianist who is available for your events. I do solo or trio performances and am well-versed in many styles. Brazilian jazz is a specialty. I am available for any kind of event.
I play the piano and sing. I need little equipment and I can play as background music, welcoming music or closing music.
One of the most respected and in-demand pianists in the state. Have received accolades from Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson), David Torn (Madonna), and Bernie Grundman (mastering engineer for 10% of the top-selling albums of all time).
VanPort Jazz is a local musical ensemble dedicated to maintaining the tradition of Big Band jazz. Over the past decade, the ensemble has evolved from a local community group focusing on early swing music, to its current roster of 17 amateur and semi-professional musicians playing a more eclectic book of some 300 charts.
