Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I offer flexibility. We can work on a $1,500 production were I just come to you with a camera and make a small documentary about your business. We can produce a $50,000 video series, with a creative team, medium sized crew, and high end motion graphics indented for commercial use. I can do this because I'm an independent, have skills in multiple areas of production, but have a large network of contractors that I trust. The other benefit to this model on larger videos, is that when an element of the project is small and simple, we don't need to hire outside talent - saving a lot of money over time. Most producers either have too much overhead to work on smaller projects, aren't skilled enough to handle the big, multifaceted challenges, or simply haven't attained the network of people required to make quality productions. The thing I enjoy the most about the filmmaking process is stories, going to new places and meeting new people everyday, the process, and making each film better than the last.

Hired on Thumbtack

We are a small startup and we needed to make a corporate video in LESS THAN ONE WEEK due to a potential funding opportunity. With little experience on what to do and what to expect, we went on Thumbtack. John was one of a few video photographers who responded to our requests and interviewed with us. John immediately stood out from everyone else when he came in with a list of questions about our business. Based on our answers he provided us a specific plan how he envisioned making this video, an outline of the script and a quote with details on how much each specific item cost (such as equipment, filming, post production, music, voice over, etc.) so we could choose within the budget. The demonstrated experience and professionalism were impressive and definitely put us at ease that John could produce a great video within our limited time frame and limited budget. And the actual experience working with him proved that we have made the right choice. He showed genuine interests and enthusiasm in our business that he made the whole team comfortable in front of the camera. He was creative in how he presented our technology and strength. And he was diligent in postproduction so we were able to make changes/revisions within our CRAZY time frame. We’d definitely recommend John to anyone looking for a great video photographer, and we’d love to work with him again in the future.

John was excellent. He was quick and responsive and totally professional. The quality of the videography and the editing were both excellent, and even during the filming, he provided helpful tips and input to make the interviews and the filming better. We would hire him again in a second for Portland area filming.
Corporate Videography

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I work on a diverse array of projects: Promotional films for businesses. Informational films for corporate clients. Special event films for presentations and awards. Long form documentary work for production companies. Short form documentary work for media organizations. Video editing for ad agencies and production companies. Not to mention films for individuals who just want a story told.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The best piece of advice I can give is to find someone you trust both creatively and professionally. When a client works with a provider she trusts, there is less micromanagement, more concise storytelling, cheaper films, and better overall products. Too many cooks in the kitchen can be a big problem in the filmmaking world.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Video can be expensive, unlike writing where the investment is primarily in time and lost pens, each creative decision made on a film has a corresponding cost. If you allow me to structure your film using my tried and true methods and branch out creatively from there, we can make a great film at a surprisingly affordable price.
