My teaching style balances active listening, games and positive affirmations with constructive suggestions and critique. I was trained using the Suzuki method and use it and traditional approaches based on the needs of the student. I offer sliding scale for students with financial need.
I really like hearing my students perspectives on music and technique. I love how silly my young students and I can be together while learning. I also enjoy getting to know my students and watching them develop musically and personally.

I would recommend Grace for anyone interested in learning the Violin, she is professional, punctual, great communicator, and great listener (Something I learned to appreciate). I watched her work with my child and from many experiences with other tutors in many areas I can say she stands out as a great teacher for kids, I can easily assume she would be great with adults too :)

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My lesson rate is sliding scale from $30-90/hr. I would suggest a rate of $60/hr to a median income family or individual in the Portland area.
I offer a free half-hour trial lesson. After that payments are due monthly and in advance.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to talk to students (and their parents, if applicable) about their goals and experience. I start new students off with basics such as bow-hold, posture, finger placement and tone production before introducing them to short, melodic pieces.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied viola at Oberlin Conservatory with Karen Ritscher and at the University of Idaho. I have twenty years of playing and performing experience.
